I think I talked about this here - but I found a wallet outside of Amoeba, right near my car where I'd parked on Cahuenga. It was a young girl's wallet, a college student. I took it home with me. There was a little cash, a couple of credit cards, some ID. I knew she must be freaking out. The address on her license was out of town. So, I called her credit card companies and told them I'd found her wallet and they said they'd take the info. I asked to talk to a supervisor and told her that the girl was probably freaking out, that she wasn't from LA and that I wanted her or her parents to be called. The supervisors at both companies agreed to do it, I gave them my phone number and info. About a half-hour later the girl called, really relieved that I'd found it. I told her she could come to my house to get it, or if she wasn't comfortable with that I'd be happy to meet her somewhere. She came over (with her boyfriend in tow), and I gave it back to her.
