I must hie.
Whether or not there are additional noses in the house when I return, I'm certain either der Brucer or I will comment.
I think der Brucer needs his head examined!
The "additional noses" in question belong to a pair of Lab mixes - a small 55lb male named Wiggley and a "robust" 90 lb female named Hoopie.
Back story is that some women is the victim of spousal abuse and needs to vacate her present surroundings for now - she says she only wants a 60-90 day temporary home for the dogs. The dogs are neutered and up-to-date with shots and will not attempt to climb fences.
I had planned for her to bring the dogs down here at noon for an introductory visit (she keeps hers outside and bring ours out one at a time for a
sniff and snarl meet and greet. But then I realized that if she wanted to leave the dogs, I would be confronted with bringing them both inside by myself - that would be chaos! Woody gets off work at 3, so I've reschedule the visit for 2:30 so he can be home in time should we attempt to keep them.
The main problem I foresee is feeding time. Seems the male will eat what he wants and then walk away from a bowl; the "robust" female wants to eat all the time. Our dogs have one dinner bowl, and expect it to have food whenever they choose to nosh. We can easily feed the newcomers from their own bowls in a separate room, but I'm not sure about keeping them from commandeering our tribe's community dish.
I guess we play it by ear - if the six can co-exist for a hour or so the rest can work itself out. We always have the basement kennel in a crisis.
