MEDIUM SPOILER: I found it moving Cynthia called Allison, & really who else did she have to call.

Exactly....especially with HER personality and mood swings!

So for any of our DRs who know about genealogy - or who know anyway -

How many years are considered a "generation"?

If someone says "this has been in our family for 7 generations." how many years is that?

Thanks!

If some news I received yesterday from a friend pans out the Helen Hayes may be open in the fall anyway. I can say no more (a Help reference)

When I say I'm the 12th generation in my family to be in what is now the U.S. I mean my great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather came here from Midlothian Scotland in 1654. (I count me as 12, my dad as 11, my grandfather as 10 and 9 greats)

There is a 35 acre tract of land in Marietta near Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield, which is a national park. The owners decided the property was too prime to hang on to, so they decided to sell it. Developers were salivating over it, but in the end, the family decided to sell it to the park so they could expand.

The family is the Hensleys, as in Shuler Hensley.

I had known about the land and the potential sale for awhile but never knew who owned it until reading about it in the paper today. Apparently, Shuler's father didn't go to the ceremony yesterday (he'd had heart surgery). I didn't know that he was a former state representative.

Anyway, something nice in the news today!

Shuler Hensley is always nice in the news.

And I doubt anyone could get away with a Woody statue in front of the joint on the highway side.

I'm bummed out at the moment.  I cracked a tooth/crown this afternoon.  We are in the process of switching dentist because ours is so very expensive & we haven’t found he is worth the expense.  My appointment with the new dentist isn’t until May so I have to return to the old dentist, at twice the cost.

I did coax an appointment for tomorrow instead of Tuesday & was old it could be a long wait for my turn.  Since he put in this crown maybe I will get lucky & it will be repaired free-I’m not counting on it.

I'm 13th generation.

Which either means you're older than I (and we both know that isn't true), or my family has been on these shores a bit longer.

But onstage and backstage...look out!

No, I'm sure he's a lovely gentleman.

And the Chanticleer concert last night was, as always, simply divoon.  If you want to hear choral perfection, I highly recommend that you attend the next time they're performing in your area.

Will they also be doing a concert?

Good Evening!

Well, about a half hour ago I saw my parents and my cousin/aunt/some-female-relative-of-indeterminate-relation off at Port Authority where they boarded the bus back to Atlantic City.  All in all, a good visit.

On their own, they:
-walked through Times Square.
-Walked by the "Good Morning America" window.
-Walked to and around Rockefeller Center.
-Stood in front of "The Today Show" windows.
-Did the whole "Top of the Rock" experience - They loved it!
-Walked around St. Patrick's Cathedral.
-Walked back through Times Square to the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
-Saw Curtains - They loved that too!

Then once I caught up with them after the show:
-I took them on the on the subway up to Columbus Circle.  It was their first subway ride in years(!!!).
-We walked around the Time-Warner Center.
-We walked around the Whole Foods in the T-WC.  -My aunt is in the food service business back home in the Philippines, so she took pictures of the various hot foot bars, and salad stations.
-We went up to the Restaurant Level, where we took a few more pictures, and where they also picked up a few souvenirs - the previous day's menus from Per Se.

And then it was back on the subway to Port Authority.

*I still can't believe I actually got to see them for more than 20 minutes this time round!  ;)

Tonight my mom and I will go to dinner and then to the movies...The Elsinore Theatre is showing the 1933 (pre-code) comedy DESIGN FOR LIVING which stars Miriam Hopkins, Gary Cooper, and Frederic March. Should be a lot of fun!

I don't want you to get too excited, Mike; so I will tell you right now -- Gary Cooper is already dead.

I'm fond of "Red Snapper", although the ones nearest the "coasts" are best as they get the freshest seafood, IMO.

Is Red Snapper anything like Red Lobster?

Alas, this visit left my Mom with a scar.  Well, more like a scratch.  While she was waiting on the sidewalk sometime this morning, she had a run-in with a street vendor pushing his hot-dog-falafel-kebab cart.  Well, he actually ran into her.  He ran into her with enough force that she was pushed to the ground and her glasses and shoes(!) fell off.  Thankfully, her glasses did not fall into the subway grates, but her lenses did get a bit scratched up.  The man who was pushing the cart, apparently, did stop to see how she was doing and made sure she was all right before he headed on his way.  So, when I saw my Mom after the show, I noticed she had a scratch and scrape below her left eye... And that's when she told me what had happened.

I'm just glad she really was all right, although, if I had been there, I would have made sure to get the vendor's license number or some other contact number just in case.  If anything, I would have asked for some free food.  ;)

For the past couple of weeks the electricity in the guest bathroom as well as the little area outside of it as well as one switch in the den has been out.  Not the breaker.  I've just been lazy about calling the handyman, but when I awoke this morning, the electricity is now out in the entire den, and we cannot have that!  So, he's coming over, sometime before one to scope it out.  I have no idea what it could be.  All the other rooms have full electricity.

It's probably just a furry friend stripping the wires for nest material and then the urine trails create short circuits - be patient and soon all will be dark.

Can dear reader Jose help me with house seats to the Ahmanson A Chorus Line - I hate to call in favors twice in two weeks.

I'm not sure I can help you out here.  The management company is still getting things in place for the tour in general, and I'm sure asking for tickets for L.A. portion of the tour right now would probably be met with a look of mild disbelief ("You want what?").  If the tickets are already on sale, I'd say just check with the box office first.  -If it's like any of the other tours, the "local" comps probably won't be able to be requested until they're four to six weeks out - or, if it was like Mamma Mia/i] in some cities - they can be requested now, but won't be processed until they company is in they city in question.  But I'm stopping by rehearsal tomorrow, and I can see what's up.

When I came back inside, I watched BIG NIGHT recorded off the Universal-HD channel.

I have never seen this movie despite wanting to see it for a very long time. It's charming, light, and bittersweet with Stanley Tucci and Tony Shalhoub playing Italian brothers trying to keep a restaurant afloat in NYC of the 1950s. Wonderful cast along with them: Isabella Rossalini, Minnie Driver, Campbell Scott, Ian Holm, Marc Anthony. I really enjoyed it, and seeing it in HD was a treat.

I LOVE that movie!  And....

LOL-It's about the same here.  I know the single women are always complaining there are too few single men here.

There are lots of single men in your area - they're just not interested in single women. :)

Re: BIG NIGHT.

I have seen the recipe for the climactic entree somewhere online.

There was a restaurant in DC that would routinely feature menus and food items that were featured in currently running movies.  They did dinners that went along with "Babette's Feast", "Like Water for Chocolate", and, of course, "Big Night".

I think "Babette's Feast" was their first "Movie Dinner".  -They actually would make an evening out of it.  You would have the dinner, then see the movie.  However, they soon switched that order to seeing the movie first and then having the dinner.  This way, nothing was "spoiled" when the customers went to see the movie.  -And, more importantly, it prevented people from falling asleep in the movie theatres due to their full stomachs.  ;)
