Normally, I like La Lupone. . . .and I have made it through both her Ravania and City Center GYPSYs. . .
I loved LuPone in EVITA all those years ago, but, loved her even more at Lincoln Center in ANYTHING GOES.
I like most of Patti's recordings, especially the MATTERS OF THE HEART and the Irving Berlin one.
I liked Patti in LIFE GOES ON.
Loved Patti in WITNESS.
To be frank, I thought that tonight she trod all over the lyrics, creating highly unusual consonant and vowel sounds, so much so that I had NOT been familiar with the lyrics, I certainly would not have been able to make them out tonight.
I'll listen again once the retail recording is out, the sampler features the same mangling of natural sounds I heard tonight.
Nicely acted though, and her acceptance speech wasn't boring, though I thought it owed a great debt to Shirley MacLaine's Oscar-winning speech. . .

I was a bit disappointed by the RENT tribute.
I love the OBC.

I wish they had done more!

Different ice-cream flavours for different folks DR Jose.  I'm a bit over the Buckley flavour too! (But I did like her in Sunset B. She does mad well!)

But Ms. Buckley does give one doozy of a performance in "The Happening".

OY!
I wouldn't know, except that the critics are citing her as the best thing about the film because of the outrageousness of her character, and her scenery chewing - supposedly the only life in Shamalamadingdong's movie.  From what I've read, it's merely a repeat of her performance in THE MUMMY AND THE ARMADILLO. . . .
I saw IRON MAN instead on Friday night.

I guess nobody gets to sing the Diana Ross hit in the new movie, THE HAPPENING.

DR td - I've heard some of the advance edits of the forthcoming revival OCR, and it all sounds a bit too edited and too clean to my ears.  Basically, flat.  ???  *And if you track down some of the newest promo footage where the vocals were obviously NOT from the video'd performance, that sounds flat too (to my ears).

I know it's not Wednesday, but, I'd like to ask BK to produce more music with Kerry Butler.

Yep, she's the best thing in the movie.  She provides the biggest laughs.  *And I did have to wonder if she actually did that all on purpose.

There's a Tony Award sampler floating around which has these tracks:
1. Some People
2. If Mama Was Married
3. Everything is Coming Up Roses
4. Wherever We Go
5. Rose's Turn

Is that the advance edited copy you're referring to?

Okay, what has Andrea Martin done to herself?  Like we can't put on a video from five years ago and see what she really looks like?

And the winner for the most dreadful-looking choreography on B'way goes to Kathleen Marshall for that horrid thing I just suffered through.  I know if I were directing Grease I'd put Danny and Sandy in the BACK where no one can see them.  Yeah.

His Gaston is laugh-out-loud funny!

I don't know Debra's history, care to share?

I'm actually torn between two SUNSETS - the Melbourne and the highly hard-to-track-down Elaine Paige/Alan Campbell. . . .

"Torn Between Two Sunsets."  Was that a follow-up hit for Mary MacGregor?

Well, the show is "better" whenever Danny and Sandy are in the back. ;)

DR tomovoz - are you familiar with Charlie Byrd's  HOLLYWOOD BYRD album?  It features a recording, with vocals, of HAWAII's "The Wishing Doll."

And speaking of that revival...  There's a reason another quasi-star has been brought in recently to help spark the ticket sales... Since the the two current quasi-stars will most likely be leaving soon...

Yes, I thought the Grease doors were the equivalent of the Legally Blonde windows and every other similar bit on B'way these days.
