Yeah... That Courtney is something else. I'm wondering if she read the release in regards to just how much she would be on TV - and how they would edit her remarks and appearances. -Strangely enough, I believe I know who her husband is - the actually owner of the property - and I find it kind of surprising that so much has not happened in regards to the renovation. We shall see.

The pool was very relaxing this morning. It is a heated pool, and today the heater needed to be turned on since it was only 78 when we were there, and the water in the pool was 84. Got just enough sun to be starting a nice base. As busy as I am now, I doubt I'll get to the pool as much as I did a few summers ago when I was going two or three times a week and got very brown.

I mean, I went from having no discs to review to FOUR discs to review in one 24-hour period. Today is the main came the horror film THE RUINS from Paramount.

When I got in from the pool, I cooked and ate lunch while watching more of LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME. I didn't quite finish. The "At Sundown" number is just about ready to start, but hadn't yet when I turned off that player.

I don't know about in your neck of the woods....but in my neck of the woods there's no such thing as a "tie" in croquet. Dusk be hanged, we'd be in "sudden death" until I won!

Then I put in THE FURIES. I had never seen it before, so it was an eye-opening and very enjoyable film. Walter Huston's last movie, and he has a very memorable part in it. Can't believe he didn't merit an Oscar nomination for it. He's fabulous. Stanwyck is as good as can be, but I think she's probably 10 years too old for the role. Wendell Corey seems a pretty dull man to be the love of her life. Too bad it couldn't have been Jeff Chandler or Jack Palance or someone with a little fire. Judith Anderson also had a very memorable supporting part. Beulah Bondi had a couple of nifty scenes, too.

Really enjoyed the story and the black and white transfer is just superb. Audio had a little hiss but otherwise a strong mono track.

THE FURIES came with a paperback book of the original novel as part of the set (that's in addition to the usual Criterion booklet insert).

I'll get to the commentary and the other supplements (don't look to be a gargantuan number of them) this evening. Luckily, there is nothing on TV tonight for me to be distracted.

I did have time to skim through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Yes, the boys were on, but for all that got settled, they might as well not have been. Marking time (though seemingly the Ameera storyline was wrapped up).

They were not in tomorrow's previews.

And since I actually have made these "Touch of Grace Biscuits" before... And since it happens to be quite a "easy" biscuit recipe - no rolling out and cutting invloved... And since I know all of us DRs like recipes, well...

Touch of Grace Biscuits

Adapted from “CookWise” by Shirley O. Corriher (Morrow)

Time: 40 minutes

Nonstick cooking spray
2 cups self-rising flour, preferably a low-protein Southern flour like White Lily
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons vegetable shortening
2/3 cup heavy cream
1 cup buttermilk, or as needed
1 cup bleached all-purpose flour, preferably low-protein flour like White Lily, or as needed
2 tablespoons butter, melted.

1. Heat oven to 425 degrees, and arrange a shelf slightly below center of oven. Spray a 9-inch cake pan with nonstick cooking spray. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the self-rising flour, sugar and salt. Work shortening in with your fingers until there are no large lumps. Gently stir in the cream, then enough buttermilk so that dough resembles wet cottage cheese. (If you are not using low-protein Southern flour, this may take considerably more than 1 cup buttermilk.)

2. Spread one cup all-purpose flour (not self-rising) across a plate or pie pan. Using a medium (about 2 inches, No. 30) ice cream scoop or spoon, place three scoops of dough well apart in flour. Sprinkle flour over each. Flour your hands. Turn the dough in flour to coat, shaping a ball and shaking off excess flour as you work. Place each ball in prepared pan; biscuits should be touching one another. Continue shaping until all dough is used.

3. Bake until lightly browned, 20 to 25 minutes. Brushed with melted butter. Invert onto a plate, then back onto another. With a knife or spatula, cut quickly between biscuits to make them easy to remove. Serve immediately.

Yield: 12 to 14 biscuits.

I am curious about THE RUINS; I wanted to see it and never got to it. I loved the book, but it's quite gory.

I'm really rather dreading watching it. I'm not a big horror/gore fan. Something like CLOVERFIELD is fine with more suspense and minimal gore, but THE RUINS is something I'm a bit apprehensive about watching.

And it's the UNRATED version too so they can increase the gore and language quotas. Argh!
