I know I am hopelessly behind the times, but I just last night started watching HAIRSPRAY. I would say that had it not had the stunt-casting of Travolta, it would be an out and out classic. The musical sequences are staged exceedingly well, IMHO, probably some of the best musical stagings I've seen in musicals (not that there have been that many to choose from) over the past decade.

Candace McMenamin’s Chocolate Peanut Oatmeal Jumbles
Winner of the Duke’s 2007 Recipe Contest

Prep: 5 minutes
Cook: 10-12 minutes
Yields 4 dozen cookies

¼ cup butter, melted
1 18 oz. box chocolate cake mix
2 cups quick oats
½ cup Duke’s Mayonnaise
2 eggs
1 cup peanut butter chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except the peanut butter chips. Mix well. Fold in the peanut butter chips. Drop from a teaspoon onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes. Cool on the cookie sheet for one minute, then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling. Store tightly covered.

Well, how about this one then:

Duke's Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

Cake:
6 Tbsp. cocoa
3 cups all purpose flour
1 Tbsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups Duke's Mayonnaise
1 1/2 tsp. Sauer's Vanilla Extract
1 1/2 cups cold water

Chocolate Icing
1 cup butter. softened
1 cup unsweetened natural cocoa powder
1 tsp. vanilla extract
5-6 cups confectioners' sugar
6 or more tablespoons milk

Preparation
Preheat oven to 350 degrees, grease and flour two 8-inch cake pans.
Sift cocoa, flour, baking soda, salt and sugar into a medium bowl, mix well. Combine mayonnaise, vanilla and water in an electric mixer at low speed. Once smooth, slowly add in dry mixture until just incorporated (do not over beat). Pour batter into cake pans and bake for 30 minutes or until done. Cool on wire racks and frost with your favorite chocolate frosting.

It's at the same theater where I saw him in Follies in 1995 with Judy Kaye, Walter Charles, Constance Towers and Maxine Andrews...among many others.

Not anytime soon. This is the world premiere pre-Broadway run. As soon as it's done here, it's heading to NYC! And I'm seeing it the VERY FIRST NIGHT!!

I wonder what will be cut after that first performance??

Had a very long and pleasant lunch meeting. I must say, they In and Out people left the onions of my cheeseburger (yes, I asked for them) and the burgers are just a big load of nothing without the onion. I also had animal fries.

I gotta tell you. The air conditioning breaker keeps tripping - I've called the Handy Man because someone has to figure out the problem. When the AC guy came back last week he went through a whole cock and bull story about we had it set too low, how the unit has this mercury bubble that has to stay constant, so he set the machine the way he said it would never have a problem. And I've changed nothing since, but today the breaker has tripped six times already - not so good in 106 degree heat.

Well, it's currently 67 degrees here in NYC. -A little rainy right now, but still just 67 degrees.

*Maybe you should call your landlord. He looks good when he's sweaty (and when he's not sweaty).
