Watched a couple of Hitchcock hours, and am trying to figure out what to watch now.  In the meantime, I'm listening to a home-grown CD of Patrick Williams' beautiful score to a TV movie entitled A Song From The Heart.

We haz slowed to a crawl.  Funny, I had the A/C on most of the day and had the house at seventy-two degrees.  I shut it off about thirty minutes ago and the house is magically up to seventy-six degrees.  Amazing.

TOD

Work-wise, I have a new pet peeve:

Customers who insist on paper-in-plastic.

That's when they want us, the cashiers, to stop and take the time to insert a paper bag in the plastic bag before filling said bag/bags with their groceries.

And yes, it does slow down the flow of our work, to have to stop and insert the paper bag into the plastic bag.

I had a few customers insisting on this waste of resources today.  Natch, I had the express lane.

And every one of those customers went over the fifteen item limit.  Of course.

The worst was the woman who not only insisted on paper-in-plastic, but also insisted that I "pack them light," because she didn't want to lift heavy items.  And of course she had thirty-eight items.  In the express lane.  And she wasn't nice about it, at all.

I, however, am required to do as the customer requests, and be ultra-polite at all times.

Bitch.

When I buy two bottles of Cranberry Juice, I always ask for paper in plastic for those items.  I am sick and tired of cranberry juice all over the parking lot at my house.  Maybe if your wonderful supermarkets wouldn't buy such effen cheap plastic, we wouldn't have to ask you to go out of your way by an extra ten seconds.

The  man in DR MBARNUM's movie looks like the actor who played in that ALEXANDER THE GREAT movie he watched last week.

Hee, hee, you are very perceptive, DR JRand57! And of course it is my favorite yesteryear Bollywood actor Dara Singh.

Oh!  And Cheyenne Jackon's "fill-in" is the totally adorable and multi-talented Curtis Holdbrook.

*I would post a picture of him, but when I went to pull a pic of him from BroadwayWorld.com, the "filter" here at the airport said "Access Forbidden: Porn Site".  WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Oh behalf of Jose and for JulieC40 (who I believe has left), I present Mr. Curtis Holdbrook (courtesy of that porn site)

DR SWoody, I take my own canvas bags. Is that a good thing or a bad thing, in the grocery checker's world?

A very full evening of viewing. However, even more importantly, we DID get that rain they had forecast, and again the temperatures dropped drastically, so off went the A/C and on went the attic fan. Again, I am sitting beside an open window in my office with a delightful cool breeze being pulled through it. Sheer heaven. I should sleep well again tonight!

I began my evening viewing with a MURDER SHE WROTE episode. This one involved the death of a New Orleans jazz musician. William Atherton and Beah Richards were among the guest stars.

Next came GANGS OF NEW YORK. First, the film. Gripping story but too ambitious for its own good trying to tell too many stories (even in 167 minutes not enough time for so many plots). Hyper-violent, of course, but it had to be dealing with the gang warfare and riots over the draft for the Civil War. And I shuddered when I saw that final image of the NYC skyline with the Twin Towers there.

I see what Robert Harris is saying about the look of GANGS on Blu-ray. Disney has processed the hell out of the film so there is now no grain at all, a too hot contrast, and everyone at certain moments looks like wax figures with their skin textures all smooth and flat. The picture is super sharp (lots of edge enhancement unfortunately), but I laughed a little when I realized that with all the processing and removal of grain, they didn't catch all of the dirt specks. I noticed a few of those against that perfectly slickly smooth background.

I also watched the first of the featurettes which have been ported from the sDVD set of a few years ago. It was called "The History of Five Points," and goes into the historical background of NYC which the script is based on.

There are still about seven more bonuses to investigate tomorrow. I should be done with it by the end of the afternoon.

That will mean tomorrow night, I can start the next TV box set, MAD MEN on Blu-ray.

I have to laugh everytime you or BK talks about cleaning up films and removing all the dirt specks.  I just did an Industial film for the State of Washington which is a take-off on a 1950s family sitcom.  After they finished filming it, they added in dirt specks, etc into the finished film so that it looks old.

Now onto Bollywood movie # 2...GEET ( 1970) starring Rajinder Kumar, Mala Sinha, Kum Kum, Daisy Irani, and Tun Tun.

An actress from the city falls for a naive country boy while on vacation in the mountains. She urges him to come to the city to make it big as a singer. Lots of songs happen, but will the young man lose his innocence in the big city?

It was about this new computer system that is arriving in December to make our working lives miserable - just in time for the holidays!   ;)

Finished watching Mr. Harlan Ellison's Soldier, the first episode of the second season of Outer Limits.  Funny, even though the show has one of the regular directors (and one of my faves), Gerd Oswald, the whole look and feel and sound of the show has changed because the people who made the sound, look, and feel unique all quit the show after season one.  So, replacing Joe Stefano as producer is the very ordinary Ben Brady, who brought his very ordinary sensibility to the show - gone is Conrad Hall, so the photography, while still very good, has no originality to it.  But Mr. Ellison's yarn is a good one.

Oh, and gone is Dominic Frontiere, so the music is now by Harry Lubin, who did One Step Beyond - his music for Outer Limits is occasionally a note for note clone of the latter.
