Must-see TV from my childhood - The Miss America Pageant.  My mom and "her girls" commandeered the TV from Dad, but we shared the clam dip with him.

Yesterday, DR Jose posted:Well, Jose, for one thing, most items do not have the price written on them any more.  So, we cannot enter the quantity and then the price... how are we supposed to know the price?

Further complicating this, is that if we were to enter the quantity and then scan one of the item, that assumes that all the items being included are the same.  Too often, it was found that the clerk was mistaken in assuming they were the same.  Instead, when a more detailed inspection was made, it would turn out that the customer was purchasing six of one and a half dozen of something totally another.

Final problem: re inventory, each flavor of those yogurt cups has it's own bar code.  This tells both the retailer and the manufacturer of the yogurt what types of yogurt are selling, and which lines should be ordered and which discontinued.

We gotta scan each and every, pain in the ass as it may be.

 :P

When I buy canned cat food (for the children who don't know they are cats), I know exactly how many of each flavor I am buying, and I hand the checker one of each and tell her how many I have of each of them.

After I got home and got everything into the dirt, I checked my email and learned that my eldest cousin died. She's had emphysema and was down to about 90 pounds.

I never would have guessed that someone who could grow up in wealth and privledge, very beautiful (she looked like Elizabeth McGovern when she was young) could end up as a schizophrenic Buddhist bag lady in Boulder (still very wealthy but cleaning hotels for a living.) Such a sad ending for such a nice person.

My heartfelt sympathies to you, Amy.

I am here in the hospital for another day or two.  My "I & R" is coming up gradually as a result of 2 kinds of blood thinners, but needs to be between 2 & 3.  I can't remember what I & R means.

I believe it stands for ice cream & raspberries.

They were all, in different ways, completely weird experiences.

Would that be good weird or bad weird?

None planned at this point, although I am a native of Seattle.  Graduated Garfield High and the U of W.

I had a signing for my first novel, NOBODY DROWNS IN MINERAL LAKE, in the Seattle area in 1999.  That one was set in Washington State, but SHADOW WATCHER takes place in Los Angeles and Texas, though there is one chapter set in Seattle.

There is a possibility that my wife and I might visit Seattle in November, and if that happens, I'll probably do a signing somewhere.

Thanks for asking.

That was at the Seattle Mystery Bookshop wasn't it?  I hope, Mr. Druxman, that you will do a signing in Washington.  I am looking forward to reading SHADOW WATCHER.

That was a strange experience.  I am signed on to the site, it even said "Welcome, TCB," but I am not listed as browsing the site.

I wished I'd had some last Sunday for watching the Tony Awards.

Our two-week-long hot-hot-hot spell broke last night.  Shortly after sunset, as a matter of fact.

It got so cool I was able to cool down the entire house with only my window fan in the bedroom and a floor fan at my balcony door.

I slept under covers last night.  And I did NOT want to get out of bed this morning!

On my balcony, I have a mystery flower.  I should know what it is, but I didn't save the marker that came in the plant (or it blew away).  A couple of weeks ago, I posted that I had some tulips coming up.  The leaves look very much like tulips, but the familiar tulip flower never appeared.  In fact, this is what the flower looks like (and I'd appreciate a heads up on what it's called):

I also have a flowering shrub called "Angel's Trumpet" in the common vernacular.  These can grow very large, but because I rooted mine and placed it in a planter, it's not very large, but it has produced some  beautiful flowers:

If anyone up northwest would like to arrange a signing in Seattle or like we did in Portland, I'd certainly come up there again.  Since the last two books are mysteries, maybe that store in Seattle?

Sorry to go quiet there for a while.  We've just had a nice visit from the pastor of our Cincinnati church and his wife.

I'll certainly give it a try; although I have never done anything like that before.  Perhaps JMK can help me out.
