I've got some kind of exotic chicken dish cooking in the oven -- some Trader Joe's concoction with asparagus and cheese, etc.

Looked good...hope it is.

And then....and THEN....I shall cut into one of the chocolate pies!

Oh Ginny.. read back and saw why you are in hospital... I had a similar probelem shortly after the Vixter was born but I guess yours in more severe becasue I was not hopitalized... but yes I was on blood thinners and confined to bed for 2 weeks. I remember how frustrating the "staying put" was.

VIBES for patience and really good books!!!

I've never been to a single high school or college reunion. My life went to other places and the person I was then is not the person I am now, so I had no interest in going back. The people from those years that I cared for I'm in touch with now and see them whenever I want. The others I just don't care about.

I began my afternoon with another MURDER SHE WROTE episode while I cooked and ate lunch. Here was another episode I had never seen before with Jessica at a book sellers convention in Las Vegas and getting involved in a murder in a casino. Howard Keel was her book company's representative, and David Soul and Bruce McGill were also part of the guest cast.

Next I watched the remaining bonus features on the GANGS OF NEW YORK Blu-ray. These were merely ported over from the sDVD version and were not in HD.

They included talks with production designer Dante Ferretti and costume designer Sandy Powell. There was a wonderful almost half hour tour of the actual sets constructed in Rome, full sized sets that didn't use CGI to replicate the New York of 1862.

There was also a half hour Discovery Channel episode on the REAL gangs of New York which were the basis of the characters in this film. Really fascinating stuff.

I ended my afternoon with about 45 minutes of SLEEPING BEAUTY. This may be among the last times I ever watch the sDVD version of the movie (albeit upconverted). Once the Blu-ray comes out, I suspect that will be the way I'll watch it for the next few years.

I'll finish it when I go back downstairs.

Time to head back downstairs to clean the guest bath and put away the already folded laundry.

Sometimes I like these heartwarming stories, and this one truly is amazing. Enjoy.....

In 1986, Dan Harrison was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from

Northwestern University .

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant
standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed
distressed, so Dan approached it very carefully.

He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot and found a
large piece of wood deeply embedded in it.

As carefully and as gently as he could, Dan worked the wood out with
his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.

The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on
its face, stared at him for several tense moments.

Dan stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled.
Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away.

Dan never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Twenty years later, Dan was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his
teenage son.

As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned
and walked over to near where Dan and his son Dan Jr. were standing.

The large bull elephant stared at Dan , lifted its front foot off the
ground, and then put it down. The elephant did that several times then
trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.

Remembering the encounter in 1986, Dan couldn't help wondering if this
was the same elephant.

Dan summoned up his courage, looked to see if any guards were around
and then climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure.
He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder.

The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Dan's
legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly.

Probably wasn't the same elephant.

I hope the blood thinner do not have to be taken for long DR Ginny.  Those frequent blood tests would drive me mad.  I HATE blood tests.

I think those Angel Trumpets are the poisonous variety DR RLP.  I suggest you don't use them in your salads.

Well, I'm on 2 blood thinners, one of which does require daily blood draws.  When I'm off that (soon I hope - hate those shots), I will continue with a maintenance dose of the other (a pill) that will require monthly checks.

I am not an easy subject for this sorth of thing - hard-to-find veins.  My sister's even worse and has declared that she'll require sedation before her next test.

Sheesh!  Now, I've been visited by a social worker who's setting up home health care.  All this as a result of a procedure that was just a shade more serious than cosmetic surgery  ::)

It'll be a lo-o-o-o-ong time before I think about having the same thing done to my right foot.
