We got another shower and once again, it helped bring temperatures down to a range suitable for open windows and no central A/C. I'm loving this, but I know it can't last for much longer.

I watched the remaining episodes on disc 2 of MAD MEN. This included Bryan Batt's wonderful episode where his character was attracted to another man. Also featured Paul Schulze, a favorite actor of mine, as a hobo.

And, of course, the famous episode with Don's wife and the pigeons.

She also looked wonderful in the Coca-Cola ads in that episode.

I watched the bonus documentaries on the second disc, too. One was called "Advertising the American Dream" and it featured real ad people describing the rationale behind marketing in the 1950s and 1960s. Really interesting stuff. It was the longest of the featurettes.

And all the featurettes were in high definition which certainly doesn't always happen.

There was one with the show's composer describing his various theres for individual characters and for couples.

There was a MAD MEN Music Sampler which was basically an ad (!) for the soundtrack CD featuring 13 selections from it. Some are pop recordings from the era used in the show from the likes of Rosie Clooney, McGuire Sisters, Vic Damone. Ella. Other cuts were themes written for the show.

And there was an interactive section where the costume designer, the hair stylist, and the production designer each presented a series of pictures with accompanying audio commentaries about their reasons for doing things the way they were done.

I have four more episodes and one more bonus featurette. I've enjoyed revisiting the show, but now we're getting near the episodes I didn't like nearly as much.

Then, I watched tonight's BONES rerun. Pretty funny in spots (booth and Bones picking on Dr. Sweets) and nicely engrossing episode with a good mystery.

Just back from a delicious dinner at the Al-Karawi's! I am completely stuffed!

It was a nice evening and it was fun to see baby Abdullah...he was playing with the remote control and making a snippet of a DVD play over and over again...it was making him laugh!! He has not laughed in over a year and he is starting to come out of his shell a little bit. He has been diagnosed as autistic $:-\$

Oh dang, I just read that Gene Persson died. He starred in two of my all time favorite movies, EARTH VS THE SPIDER (1958) and BLOODLUST (1961). He died in NY on June 6th of a heart attack at age 74.

I had tried in vain to get him to do an interview about his career, but he wouldn't have any of it.

After he left acting he produced YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN.

Gene is the one in the glasses in this shot from BLOODLUST! (note June Kenney being held by Robert Reed).

Most of the more difficult keyboard stuff was played by Matt Castle who was established as a pianist/music director/conductor before he was cast in John Doyle's Company. -And he played "strolling" bass in the show too.

I believe there are a few shots where they show them playing upstage left.

DR MBARNUM - sorry to hear about Gene Persson who was also one of the kids in THE PARTY CRASHERS.....his parents were rich and he drove around a big Imperial convertible! And was regularly beaten up by Twig and his gang. In fact it was his party that was CRASHED at the beginning of the movie!
