Isn't sticking toothpicks in your balls kind of kinky?

DR Michael Shayne,

I cannot believe you actually think people don't read what you have to say. Where on earth did that supposition come from?

Good morning!

Semi-cool morning which is rapidly heating up. I think I'm going to have to turn the A/C back on even before I head back down for lunch preparation. It's been kind of warm in my office this morning even with the window open and the attic fan working.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for the arrival of those Criterion discs today. If they don't come, I can't possibly get them until Saturday since there is no mail delivery tomorrow.

If they don't come, I'll be starting JAKE AND THE FATMAN, but I was kind of holding off on that one until I got the Crterions out of the way.

I'll probably switch back to MURDER SHE WROTE while I cook and eat lunch today. Once I finish the next disc in that set, I'll go back to disc 2 in THE CLOSER set.

Of course, I'd love to just sit and have a CLOSER marathon and watch everything all today, but I want to stretch my enjoyment out as much as possible.

re: last night's SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE show

My favorite dance last night was will and jessica's contemporary. So beautiful. I love him!

I also loved katee and joshua's contemporary (mia michaels).

Chelsie and mark's first dance.

And Twitch and Kherington's bed dance was pretty good.

My worst teams are: comfort and thayne, kortini and matt, and gev and courteney.

I am also not sure about jessica. Sometimes i like her (like the contemporary). But sometimes i don't care for her as much.

It should be interesting once they switch partners because some are at a huge advantage (if their partnership truly works).

I should do this with the NOTES!  That would tell me a thing or three.  Add another dollar.

I have a great many favorite silent films.

Chaplin, of course, stands tallest for me: THE CIRCUS and CITY LIGHTS among my all-time favorite movies by anyone.

Keaton is right up there with SHERLOCK, JR. and THE GENERAL and OUR HOSPITALITY. (And I've never seen THREE AGES which I will get to one of these days.)

Love the silent BEN-HUR, in many ways more enjoyable than the 1959 remake and MUCH shorter.

WINGS, SUNRISE, THE EAGLE, SHOW PEOPLE, NOSFERATU, THE CAT AND THE CANARY, POTEMKIN.

I could go on and on.

Now I need to head down, close everything up and turn the A/C back on. Then, it'll be time to check the mail, and then I'll start on lunch preparation.

And the word of the day is: PEREGRINE!

Long, but patently bizarre and potentially amusing, story alert:   I responded to an ad asking for a music transcriber several years ago.  A kind of addled looking elderly woman showed up at my doorstep with a bag full of cassette tapes, which she emptied out on my coffee table, proceeding to play me one as an example.  The tapes were "a cappella" (I use quotes because this term would usually imply singing of some sort) stream of consciousness ramblings of her "singing" IN THE BATHTUB with water dripping and her pet parakeet in the background chiming in from time to time.  This woman was an ardent admirer of Buckminster Fuller (I swear, I am not making any of this up) and her ramblings were full of sprechgesang about geodesic domes and PEREGRINATING falcons.  I transcribed one of these tapes, but I don't think she had the money to pay for any more.

Fast forward a couple of years.  Gabe had just been born and we got a call from a mobile baby picture service that offered to come to your home and take a free picture of your child (of course, we knew the sales pitch was coming for other "packages" of pictures, but that was O.K.).  So we made an appointment, and who should show up but Christina, my PEREGRINATING Fuller fan, to take the pictures.  I then remembered she had told me she worked in the baby pic business when she had dropped off the tapes.  I don't think she recognized me (frankly, I doubt she recognized herself in the mirror some mornings, if you know what I mean), but I recognized her immediately, pulled Betsy in the other room and whispered, "Do you know who that is?  PEREGRINATING!"  So we went back out, trying not to laugh.  Christina attempted to get us to spring for several hundred dollars worth of pics.  I agreed to about a $25 package, and then apologized to her, saying she needed to leave, because I had an important PEREGRINATION to attend to.  She got the most quizzical look on her face--it was priceless.    ;D
