A week ago, I didn't even know that Amazon Lightning Deals existed.

Now, I own an electronic tire pressure gauge.

Take me to your lieder!   :D

I'm sure you already know that the original title for Streisand's Classical Barbra album was going to be Follow the Lieder (no joke).

Speaking of Streisand, I played the fancy Jewish retirement home here in Portland last night (there's kind of a down in the dumps, one, too, which I also play--strangely it's right across the street from the nice one), and some nice old lady requested "Evergreen."  Hadn't played/sung that in a long time, was fun to revisit it.  I had to LOL when I first came in--another nice old lady screamed out, "What did you say your name was?" (I hadn't).  I told her, and she said "Hoffman?  Hoffman?"  I repeated my name a little louder and she announced to the assemblage, "Oh, well that's a nice Jewish name."  ;)

Three people in my office have been out all morning.

This has been a very good thing.  Very good.

I get to leave at 2:15 p.m. today.  Doctor's appointment.

Unless the doctor has other ideas, I will enjoy an early start to the weekend.

Our local film critic gave MAMMA MIA 3 1/2 stars (out of 4), so some folks are giving it good reviews. (He said none of the leading men can sing, and I rather believe it though I haven't heard the soundtrack CD.)

They can't. :-X

WHY do they cast non-singers in musicals? I will never understand that. Nor will I understand why someone who cannot sing will sing in a musical.

Tonight on TV:

Season premieres for MONK and PSYCH.

Monk's getting a new analyst (Hector Elizando), so that will be at least something different for the show, and I'll record it.

PSYCH, I'll watch "live."

I'll be watching PSYCH "live" tonight, also!  After that, in my DVD player will be season two of PSYCH, through most kind courtesy of JMK!! :-* :-* :-*

It arrived yesterday...but I forgot to check my mail last night, so I checked it before I came to work this morning. :D

Isn't dubbing people's singing voices in musical films a time-honored tradition?

They no longer feel that they should or have to.  Everyone can do EVERYthing these days!  Didn't you see how brilliantly Richard Gere tapped in "Chicago"?

It's the age of self-indulgence with huge gulps of denial that the talent simply is not there.

What was the last film, I wonder, in which a singing voice was dubbed?

The last I can recall is "First Wives Club" when it seemed obvious that Goldie Hawn was dubbed.  And I have my suspicions about Diane Keaton's voice, as well.

Goldie Hawn dubbed??  I wonder why...she can really sing!  Maybe it was just the lip-synching.

American film or Hindi?

That was very...considerate of him.  They so seldom attend to such details post-blow-itis.

U.S. commercial film was what I had in mind.  :D

Really?  I've never heard her sing.  I figured the voice was too good to actually be her!  But if you say so, I'm gonna have to go with it being her own.

I'm guessing Keaton's was her own, as well.  It "sounded" like her voice, only it was projected and on pitch.

Midler's voice seemed to come right out of her mouth, but Hawn's seemed somewhat detached.
