After a couple of hectic - happy and sad - weekends, I've found some Me time and have been listening to Ben Folds and Andy Davis.  (thanks to a certain Flapapino).

I've now shifted to a Poco collection.

Good Evening!

Well, this has turned out to be a very low-key day for me.  Also a bit low-energy.  Alas, I think my "allergies" may be the start of a summer cold.  I'm feeling fine, just been a bit "nap-y" all day.  -And I even took a nap a few hours ago.  So, if I am dealing with a cold, the rest should be doing me some good.  I hope.

I did step out a little while ago for a brief walk, and was very happy to find that it was/is almost unseasonably cool outside.  Ah, very nice.

I was sort of taken by surprise to hear John Mayer's "Say" at the end of "The Bucket List".  I guess it was not written for the film though.

I was also going back through some recent photos, and realized I may have deleted a whole bunch of them from my camera before I downloaded them to my computer.  -They were actually more pizza pictures.  Guess that means I may have to head back down to the East Village to regather my photographic evidence.  ;)

well, I've finally broken down to watch Howard Hughes' THE OUTLAW. I can't tell what unintentionally funny and what actually is funny. The score by Victor Young is terrible: western songs like "Bury Me Not On the Lone Prairie" and a lot of Mickey Mousing for sight gags, which I loathe. I do believe this is the only film I've seen Walter Huston in besides THE MALTESE FALCON, and I keep waiting for him to burst into "September Song."

I woould guess this film to be an MBarnum fave but I've been wrong before.

OK, show queens aficiandos (and you know who you are):  I need help stat.  The AD of the theater that's doing the Revue decided this afternoon, at our dress, that he does not like Sondheim's "Silly People."  Why he waited until the day before we open I don't know.  So we now need a song to fill this spot that isn't quite as dour--but something that still expresses this character's pessimism and lack of belief in other people.  Any bright suggestions?

Oh!  I do!  I do!

We both suffered throughwent to see Grease the other night.  He's doing fine.  His sports writing job does keep him a bit busy, but he's still able to write the "Leading Men" column for Playbill.com.  Other than that - and his engagement - he's doing fine.  We may get together for dinner next week, so I'll dig for more details then.

-And, yes, he does miss the denizens on this site, and he did mention the possibility of making a return appearance.  However, he did have a request, a condition, if you will, and I passed that on to the power(s) that be.  -Or something like that.  ;)

The only specificity is the FRIGGIN' SET!!!  Oy!  It's six characters stuck at the Bus Stop Cafe.  This particular character is returning to New York after having failed at trying to get away from his wealthy parents (setting up my semi-brilliant medley of Another Hundred People/West End Avenue).

I actually have never seen THE OUTLAW, but the lead man in the film, Jack Buetel, lived in Portland after he left show business.

Der Brucer is watching Law & Order.

I know the show is great at hiring NYC actors, but storywise it sure ain't something that would make me want to live anywhere near that city.

I’ve been lurking today & keeping quiet.  I had too much fun last night.  My second piece of chocolate cake with creamy peanut butter frosting did me in.

We went to the Britt Festival last night.  The Britt is an outdoor theater


in the charming historical town of Jacksonville.

We picnicked, visited with friends, and had a very fun evening.  The concert was one I had been looking forward to and it didn’t disappoint us.  We saw BIG BAD VOODOO DADDY.

Okay, I've been home all day (shh...with the runs :o but I feel fine, otherwise) have been watching TV (because I can't really leave my house :-\).  I watched the last four episodes of "The Big Bang Theory" and created chapters for "Independence Day" that I had on my DVD burner that I recorded from one of the digital (not hi-def) channels.  I did a few things on my computer and am also doing some laundry.  Fun day, huh? ;)

But then I put on a DVD that I got from Netflix.  The DVD is "Straight Men and the Men Who Love Them."  It's a bunch of short movies...the longest is only 22 minutes.  Anyway, I'm watching this one called "Popcorn & Coke" and it has two men in a movie theater and something about announcing the 2003 Glitter Awards (I wasn't actually paying that close attention to it...sorry).  As the movie starts, one guy comes into the movie theater, buys a ticket and popcorn.  Some music starts that sounds VERY familiar.  The song is "What Can You Lose" and the singer is our very own Guy Haines, produced by our very own BK!!  I couldn't believe it!  Guy Haines is singing on a DVD!  Another song interrups the wonderful singing of Guy, but then he comes back a little later.  For the last couple of minutes of the six minute movie, the song they play is the late Laurie Beechman's "No One Is Alone!"  Another song produced by BK!  At the end, they show the credit:  

WHAT CAN YOU LOSE - GUY HAINES

But they don't credit Laurie Beechman's song.  What's that all about?
