Thanks be to Elan! Why didn't I think of that???

And for those of you who didn't click here is the missing post with the Topic of the Day.

Today, I am hoping to have a nicer, better day in which things run smoothly, and everything works the way in which it’s supposed to. If not, I shall do violence to both an orange AND a persimmon. Tonight I’m supposed to go see some reading of a new musical in North Hollywood. Otherwise, I’ll jog, do some writing, and try to finalize my notes on the Brain contract with Rodgers and Hammerstein, so we can wrap that whole thing up.

Tomorrow, I have no idea what’s happening, Thursday I’m seeing Miss Sharon McNight at the Gardenia, and Friday I’m meeting with Mr. Kevin Spirtas.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, go to the bank (if the funds have indeed cleared), do some errands and whatnot, do a little writing and then see a reading of a new musical. Today’s topic of discussion: What was the first adult book you read – how old were you, did you read it because you wanted to or was it a school assignment, did you like it, hate it, did it make you want to read more? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I count the ways that I never want to have another day like yesterday.

TOD:

I won't say what first came to mind when I read the words "adult book..."

I've been a voracious reader for centuries now, so I'm not sure at all what the first "adult" book I ever read was, but I've never gotten tired of good books.

I've read for so long that I don't know if I remember my first "adult" book. I remember loving reading and reading above my grade level as far back as 1st or 2nd grade. We had lots and lots of books at home. My father worked as a machinist and he always had a paperback to read at lunch time. He could read a book in two or three days.

Perhaps Idylls of the King was one of the first adult books I read maybe around 5th or 6th grade but I also read Dickens at that point so perhaps it was Dickens. Who can remember that far back! (45 years ago)  ;)

And, for those who get the SciFi channel:  EUReKA has a new ep tonight.

Good Morning, once again!

I had to "leave" a little while ago to attend to a voice coaching, but I'm back now.  -Well, I never really left since I did the coaching here at my apartment, I just wasn't posting, that's all.

Capisce?

TOD:

The first book I remember reading that could not be found in the children's section of our local library was Agatha Christie's Murder in Three Acts.  I don't remember how old I was; probably about 8.

As for "adult book", hmmm...

Possible answer #1: "Of Mice and Men" - John Steinbeck - when I was 13.

Possible answer #2: "The Lord Won't Mind" - Gordon Merrick - when I was 13-4(!).

Hmm... The possibilities.

AOL still has me locked out of HHW (who did you p**s off there, BK?).  I had to go to Opera to open the site.

AOL has a nasty habit of never clearing it's own cache and history.  So, it could still be linking to "old" now-malfunctioning link.

*Besides, Opera is a better browser than AOL.  ;)

Alas, the rumors/news I heard last week has been officially announced this morning:

Broadway Revival of Godspell Postponed

*Sadly, due to the current economic climate, there are some other "rumors" out there right now.  :-\

Well, I'm off to the Village to meet up with a friend of mine who's in town this week.  She's from DR MattH's neck of the woods actually.  Since she has a gluten-intolerance, we're going to lunch at Risotteria - home of the totally dee-lish gluten-free breadsticks!

My grandmother read PEYTON PLACE, NOT AS A STRANGER and YOUNGBLOOD HAWK to me when I was wee.

I'd guess that the first adult book I read on my own was VALLEY OF THE DOLLS, followed closely by ROSEMARY'S BABY.

DR Elan - Thanks for the broken/repaired link.

And we'll talk about the Eighty-Eights card.  -Mine is signed by the gang, so...

OH!  And the guy I was thinking of was named Brad.  I think.

I've written to our web host and we'll see how long it takes them to figure out what happened.  As I said earlier, I couldn't even get to the page to write the notes via AOL last night - first time that's ever happened.  So, I got there via Safari and that seemed to work fine, which is obvious if you do what Elan did and go to the archived version.  But the link is not working with any browser, and I find that really odd - just magically doesn't work after four years of no problems, from yesterday to after midnight.  I think we'd better have some excellent vibes and xylophones for today.

I'm glad she isn't claiming a gluten allergy, as some do.  Allergies and intolerances are very different things, but some intolerant people seem to think that saying "allergy" is the only way to get other people's attention, and get quite huffy if anyone suggests otherwise.  (Yes, I've had customers...  :P)

Thanks for posting this, Elan.  I was able to get past the posts by going to http://www.haineshisway.com/community/ but couldn't figure out how to get to the archived posts.

Look at what I just found:

Quote
Dear Diary:

What a day this has been, unending trauma!  The war may be over, but Abraham has been so busy that I fear he will overwork himself!  At least tonight will provide a little respite.  We are going to see a play, a comedy that has the reputation of being quite droll.

Oh, and the results of this year's Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest are out.  This year's winner:

Theirs was a New York love, a checkered taxi ride burning rubber, and like the city their passion was open 24/7, steam rising from their bodies like slick streets exhaling warm, moist, white breath through manhole covers stamped "Forged by DeLaney Bros., Piscataway, N.J."

Off-the-cuff, it seems like there's a problem with the domain name registry... the "unseemly button" links using the full domain IP address (208.50.7.254), which currently does not seem to work, although haineshisway.com does.
