One of my favorites from the winners:

Quote
Joanne watched her fellow passengers - a wizened man reading about alchemy; an oversized bearded man-child; a haunted, bespectacled young man with a scar; and a gaggle of private school children who chatted ceaselessly about Latin and flying around the hockey pitch and the two-faced teacher who they thought was a witch - there was a story here, she decided.

TOD: PEYTON PLACE, as soon as it came out in paperback, our neighbor Jean read it and gave it to my mother to read. While it was still lying around, I read it. I think I was 12 or so and very curious about anything that provoked whiaspered comments. My mother was not happy.

I also like:

Bill swore the affair had ended, but Louise knew he was lying, after discovering Tupperware containers under the seat of his car, which were not the off-brand containers that she bought to save money, but authentic, burpable, lidded Tupperware; and she knew he would see that woman again, because unlike the flimsy, fake containers that should always be recycled responsibly, real Tupperware must be returned to its rightful owner.

TOD - The Cardinal, at about age 13.  The childbirth scene might have been one of the reasons that I didn't become a mom until my mid-30s.

Anthony says hello to everyone. They open on Thursday and he's happy with how things are going. You can't ask for more than a job where you like what you do, a free place to stay and free high-speed wireless.

Off-the-cuff, it seems like there's a problem with the domain name registry... the "unseemly button" links using the full domain IP address (208.50.7.254), which currently does not seem to work, although haineshisway.com does.

Correct.  A few months ago they sent me an e-mail saying they were changing ip addresses on their servers.  I called them and asked if there was anything we needed to do and was told no.  Apparently that was an incorrect answer.  The correct answer was yes.  I've e-mailed all this to Bakalor who is nowhere to be found - also left him a message on his cell, so hopefully he'll get that.  It seems all pages are programmed correctly except the Unseemly Button which uses an ip address for some reason.  I'm hoping that the form I use to write the notes and that I can access via Safari but NOT AOL will still work.  Have to check and see if that's an IP or not - I just can't figure out why it wouldn't work via AOL and would with Safari - I've cleared the Safari cache and it still works.

It seems the ONLY page that this site tries to use an ip number is the Unseemly Button link to the second page.  Every other page is coded without the ip, which is the way it has to be.  So, as soon as Bakalor is home, he should be able to fix that easily.

Re the form - I went to it via Safari and there was no ip address there - I cut and pasted that into the AOL address bar and got to the form fine.  I have now deleted my old favorites link and replaced it with the new, so that's all working now.  We just have to fix the Unseemly Button link and all should be well in hainesland.

I checked with the bank and the post-dated check did indeed clear today instead of tomorrow, so I've already transfered that into the proper account.  The other check was not Fed Exed last night, but was Fed Exed this morning, so I'll have it in the morning.

I had totally forgotten about them!

I'm off now to the Fringe show I cancelled last weekend because of the storm. I hope it's good.

Dang! I better be careful... people are going to start thinking that I know what I'm talking about, and we can't have that now, can we?

Until the problem is fixed, is there some reason you have to use the unseemly button? Couldn't you just put all the notes on the first page?

Just spoke to Bakalor - he's not sure why that one page has an ip but he says he'll look into it and hopefully fix it later this afternoon.

It started out weirdly, but seems to have improved and is improving.  Lauren called me and said I should not come to the reading this evening - she said it's REALLY bad.

Good Afternoon!

I'm back from lunch with my friend, Lisa.  We did indeed dine at Risotteria, and the food was wonderful(!).  We almost went with one of the gluten-free pasta specials - Tuesdays are gluten-free pasta days, but then decided to steer ourselves to the restaurants namesake and ordered risotto.

The first one was their shiitake, green beans and corn risotto, and the second one was composed of shrimp, roasted peppers and spinach.  Truly delicious food.  And their gluten-free breadsticks - which are now quite famous nationally - are still so good that it's hard to believe that they don't contain and wheat flour/gluten.
