First Adult Book?  Hmm I have no idea. Everyone in my family reads a lot and always has. My parents never cared what I read or what movies I saw.  I started reading whatever was around the house by the time I was in 4th or 5th grade.  I quit reading "kids" books  by 4th grade.

Has there been a song of the day?

Has Mr Brockman Snr returned.

Time for some Summer Wine with Nancy & Lee

Or Mr. Sondheim's "The Girls of Summer"

I am going to bed.  I want to record more of the Olympics but, like DR JoseSPiano, am finding that they are wreaking havoc with my DVR capacity.   :(

Richard had a wonderful summer dinner of burgers and corn on the cob ready for me when I got home from work.  We positioned my new chair, but I'm not sitting in it at the moment.  The internet connection for the laptop doesn't reach that far, so I'm over on the couch, admiring my new chair from afar.

With all this storm rumbling in Florida, has anyone heard from our DR Danise?

No, and she hasn't been online here for several months.

We are back from our vacation in the sunny southern climes of Oregon.  It was a nice, laid back week with little to do, unlike some of our other yearly holidays, where we've been more than fully booked.  The kids loved riding bikes, swimming, and most especially, the incredible Lava Tubes of Northern California.  If you've never been there, they're truly amazing--hundreds of caves formed from volcanic explosions.  Lots of fun and few if any bats.  ;)

I have been too busy to keep up with posts, so in case this has been mentioned already, apologies, but legendary Brasilian guitarist/composer Dorival Caymmi passed away a couple of days ago at age 94.  Dorival was the pater familias of one of the most accomplished musical families in Brasil--he was Carmen Miranda's Music Director for many years, composed a lot of her hits, and helped popularize the Samba.  His sons Dori and Danilo and daughter Nana are all incredible talents in their own right.  Dori Caymmi is probably the best known to American audiences due to his lovelier than lovely ballad "O Cantador," which was given an American lyric by the Bergmans and morphed into "Like a Lover," one of Brasil '66's most spectacular recordings.

Well, it's time for me to leave.  I'm off to my sister's so that we can discuss what's happening tomorrow for our dad's 70th birthday. :) On Saturday, we're all going to breakfast at a local restaurant (Budd Bay Cafe), but his actual birthday is tomorrow.

Until later!

I was trying to fix it and was most surprised when it said I didn't have permission to change, now I get why.

That will be cool if more people here will watch THE AMAZING RACE. Hopefully nick and his sis will do well!  I think it's been a while since they've had a 20 something brother/sister team. I remember paige and blake (who were one of my favorite teams/ although many disliked them).

re: the olympics.

I am enjoying them very much.  Especially since canada is doing much better.

I'm going to include spoiler space because my comments concern one of the athletic events that i'm not sure nbc has aired yet (featuring a bunch of Americans).

I had recorded some of the stuff from last night and woke up in the middle of the night and started watching. Very exciting triathaon. jflajfl;jdafljfl;jafldjs;
But this morning's 100m hurdles was quite thrilling.  I'd be curious to know if anyone here who watches it would be upste by the result (lolo jones, from the US was the favorite and was winning until she hit the 9th hurdle). But i believe one of the other americans won. but it was quite thrilling to see Canadian Priscilla Lopes Schliep come in 3rd. Sometimes winning any medal can be just as exciting as getting first. I was so happy for her! jlfkjafljdfla;jfljal;jl;j lj
