Ginger - Pick Yourself Up.  Of course, I'd be the one she'd be picking up, as I dance like a moose in winter.

One of my choices, too.  With a very close second - or maybe even a tie, to dancing with Debbie Reynolds in "He's My Friend" - I love that number!  ;D

The overcast is already burning off.  Trying to decide if I want to run early, say in about thirty minutes, or wait until ten.  I'm expecting a Fed Ex envelope, so I may wait until it arrives.

Oh, yes, I am glad Spitz was able to earn a decent living.

From wikipedia:

In 1972, soon after his return to the U.S., Spitz landed several lucrative corporate endorsement contracts. He earned about $7 million in a two-year period. However, as the memory of his feat receded, so did his endorsement and promotional deals. As his endorsements faded he started a successful real-estate company in Beverly Hills. He bought a Ferrari and says he made more than $1 million. "A million dollars in 1972 would be equivalent to more than $10 million today," Spitz said. "I did very well, thank you very much. I would say I was a pioneer. There wasn't anyone who'd gone to the Olympics before me who capitalized the same way on opportunity. It depends on timing, it depends on hype, it depends on the economy, and most importantly, it depends on looks. I mean, I've never seen a magazine of uglies. That's our society. I'm not saying it's right. That's just the facts."

Dear, dear Mark Spitz.  As ingratiating as ever!       ;)

I have to renew my driver's license today.  But I only have to take a vision test.

Mine comes up for renewal next year. We have to take a vision test and a sign test every five years.

I, too, adore THE TIME MACHINE. It was mesmerizing to a kid in the theaters in 1960, and I saw it several times. The Morlocks always scared me to death, and the special effects for the time were very impressive. Even simple things like the books that crumbled into dust and the spinning information rings, just fabulous. And all the time lapse photography was one of the things I went back to the movie to see. Just loved seeing those clothes on that mannequin changing over time.

If I get the chance tonight after I finish THE PRESIDENTS, I may choose to watch the Rod LaRoque movie instead of tonight's PROJECT RUNWAY. I can always watch it tomorrow.

Back from grand jury. There's always one, if not more, on every panel I've been on.  My testimony was about discovering the break-in, calling 911, and what was stolen, the officer who found the bloodsample on the battered-in door spoke about that, the crime lab technician spoke about matching up the DNA, and an idiot woman's question was, he could be innocent; what if he was simply waling in the hall?

Oy!

The thief pleaded guilty for 4-6 years and his name is Richard Myers.

It wasn't until 1998 that Olympians were allowed to pocket endorsement bucks. Michael Phelps has been made a millionaire as an Olympic swimmer between 2004 and today - and can keep on training (and earning) for the 2012 Olympics.der Brucer

From the USOC website:

Amateurism in the modern Olympic Games
Until the 1970s, Olympic athletes could not accept endorsements or prizes, and professionals were not allowed to compete in the Games. Athletes who practiced professionally were considered to have an unfair advantage over those who played sports as a hobby. Amateur athletes relied on private sponsorship, such as family members and wealthy fans, to fund their training and pay living expenses.

Professionals in the Games
The International Olympic Committee eliminated the necessity of amateurism in 1971, allowing athletes to receive compensation for time away from work during training and competition. In addition, athletes were permitted to receive sponsorship from national organizations, sports organizations, and private businesses for the first time. In 1986, professional athletes were given permission by the International Federation to compete in each sport of the Olympic Games. For instance, in the 1992 Olympic Games, the United States was allowed to field a basketball team comprised of well-paid NBA stars, called "The Dream Team."

Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act
Although the IOC allowed for athlete compensation in 1971, all U.S. athletes still had to be of amateur status to compete on the United States Olympic team until 1978. Athletes from the United States found it difficult to compete at the Olympic Games against athletes from eastern nations who were sponsored by their governments and able to train full-time. In 1978, the United States adopted the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act, allowing athletes on the U.S. Olympic team to receive financial awards, sponsorship, and payments for the first time. A revision of the Ted Stevens Olympic and Amateur Sports Act in 1998 expanded athletic eligibility and representation further to include the Paralympics Games and increased athlete representation.

And that wonderful Russell Garcia score really establishes a mood for the entire film.

Question for ASK BK Day:

Who of all the dancers in the classic movies, would you most have liked to partner with....and what song?

Gene Kelly. But of course he would have to teach me.

The thief confessed at a grand jury hearing?

I'm not sure I'm explaining it correctly but he had already pleaded guilty; the grand jury was a formality.  DR cillaliz can explain it much better than I ever could.

What else besides the basic box step, a few euphemistic  breathing exercises, and staring him? You gonna sing, too?

I'm sure his good bosom friend Larry Moore will come up with an arrangement in a proper key that will enhance/accentuate his talents.    :)

Hmm. I guess I didn't think a grand jury hearing was necessary if the guy pleads guilty.

JR, I'm personally not too fond of LightScribe.  Even if you use a large and bolded font, the opaque nature of the label side of the disc makes your labels hard to read.
