Had a wonderful visit and nice lunch with Mr. Kenny Miller. Now he is heading over to the Oregon coast and then down the 101 to Santa Barbara...unless he pops back over to I-5 and stops to see friends in Ashland.

Can anyone who knows explain the significance of the US flagbearer at the Closing Ceremonies of the Olympics (the archer).

Is it because others (like say michael phelps) were not there. Or is it because the athlete set some type of record appearing for so many different countries (before the US) Or is this athlete very well liked?  I am very curious.

Btw, the canadian athlete chosen would not have been my first choice (she won silver in trampoline). But she has won medals in 3 olympics on her own (another female diver won medals in 3 olympics but some of hers were in sychro diving).

My choice would have been Eric Lamaze who won the gold for equestrian (not sure if he would have been the first choice, but all showjumpers left for another comp).

For no other reason than "just because," here are two Amy (Edisaurus) references!

This weekend, I found some videotapes in my garage that I've been recording to my DVD burner, so that I can have DVDs instead of videotapes and one of the titles I found was the "Live from Lincoln Center" broadcast of Contact by John Weidman and Susan Stroman.  During the intermission and after the show, they show a preview of an upcoming broadcast of the documentary "The Internationale."  Of course, this was originally broadcast in 2002, so it's already been shown.  But it's on my original tape! :D

Also, I'm at work now, ordering extra copies of TV series from the high demand list and the very title that I just ordered was "The Closer: The Complete First Season."  Our library system had 80 holds for four copies and I've just ordered three more. ;D

Oh, and by the way - to answer my own question from earlier this morning:  all the Olympic video coverage appears to be still available - at least for now - for online viewing.  You can drill down to what you want to view by sport, etc., etc.

Since arriving home from work, I (well, not alone) have put up (canned) a bushel of beets.
One more bushel to go!
18 quarts of pickled beets now sit on the kitchen island.
They sure are purty.   ;D

Dinner break now.  Meat Lover's Pizza from Fox's Pizza Den.
(Who wants to cook with all the beets floating around)?

Cool! I cut the promo for our own film--always feels a little weird!

And I'm happy to hear that there's a big demand for THE CLOSER!

Tonight's episode is very good, tho sad. "A Very Special Closer"!

We're being taken out for a very special DINNER to celebrate finishing up the season, by the post house. I rarely eat steak, so yum! We're also looking forward to trying the "lobster mac and cheese". If I don't have a heart attack, I'll see you later!

I was listening to "A Bushel and a Peck" just the other day.  (The Perry & Betty version).  Can't beet (sic) it. And of course Cannery Row was mentioned by your good self yesterday - or Pipe Dream at least.

Good Evening!

Well...  Alas, there really wasn't much to look at in "Looking At Music" - at least as far as I was concerned.  It almost seemed like a non-exhibit to me.  The final part of the exhibition - which was jammed into two small galleries - was composed of some TV sets playing music videos of the Beatles, David Bowie and Devo - with pairs of headphones to listen the music.  I mean, I got it, but I didn't get it (too).

*However, the Kirchner continued to intrigue me.

Jennifer:  The U.S. flagbearers are selected by the Olympic team.  I imagine they have biographical information on all the athletes.  Sometimes they are looking for someone from a unique background.  This year, for instance, the flagbearer in the opening ceremony was Lopez Lomonde who has been an American citizen for just a bit over a year.  I think many times, it is simply a matter of popularity or admiration of someone.

Other countries select flagbearers in different ways, too.  Sometimes, the Olympic delegation from a country will select the flagbearer.
