Michelle O has noted in her speech about how she was born and raised in Chicago, and how Barak was born and raised a continent away... in Hawaii.

I didn't know Hawaii was part of any continent.   :-\

My friend Conan is on THE CLOSER as Det. Ross tonight!

And I love how they treat him as a second class citizen. Always makes me smile. (Nothing against your friend, DR Elmore. I'm talking about the character.)

One for the road:
"Sticks" Mandalay----"Happy Days"' only attempt(three episodes) to have a black character.  He was a drummer in their band.  a decent idea, very poorly executed.

That was also the name of the character who played the drums in a DICK VAN DYKE episode called "Bupkis" played by Greg Morris.

I'm not quite sure why no one has mentioned Sofia Milos, the actress who played Horatio Cane's love interest for three seasons on CSI: MIAMI.

I had a great dose of THE SHIELD tonight - 5 episodes plus part of a sixth. That will leave the rest of that one and two others for tomorrow. I'm so happy that I'll get to make street date on this title.

Also watched quite a few deleted scenes, and listened to two commentaries. Frank Darabont directed a really riveting episode of the show.

I've been watching last week's and this week's Closer episodes while starting to pack for Wednesday's trip to NYC.  The serious packing will have to wait until tomorrow night.

I watched both week's epiodes tonight too!  I am avoiding watching politics.  Much les stressful.

A couple of review copy items of interest today.

In the mail was the review copy for GHOST WHISPERER 's latest season. This disc comes out on September 2.

I also will be getting season one of LIFE to review since the Universal reviewer didn't want it. Looking forward to seeing all of the episodes. I think I missed two of them during its shortened first season.

But certainly VERY dramatic. Last week and this week contained two of the most powerful episodes in the history of the series thus far.

I really loved tonight's episode of THE CLOSER which I watched and sped through commercials. That last scene was so very moving and powerful. Great work by Raymond Cruz this week!

It has rained a good portion of the evening off and on, and it's cooled down enough for me to have the house opened up again. Hooray for another night of fresh air!

Just finished watching Recount.  May start the remake of The Andromeda Strain now - I've heard it's terrible.

I think the person I can't remember had a foreign-sounding name.  But it just won't come back to me and I blame Time Warner.

My apologies.  Sticks Mandalay was from the Dick Van Dyke Show.  That's what I now remember.
The Happy Days drummer was Sticks Downey.
I think I still deserve an assist.

I was not quite prepared for just how bad this remake of The Andromeda Strain is.  I'm an hour in and it's pretty excruciating for all the reasons you might imagine.

Well, this not-so-old fart needs to get ready for bed.  I want to be "awake" for as much as my birthday day as I possibly can.  And then some!

Goodnight.

I'm leaving work now.  At 7:00 pm at the condo, there's going to be a meeting for all the residents with a local detective to get information about the sex offender that has moved into the area.  So, even though I'm not his target demographic, I'm going to the meeting, so that I can be informed.

Until later.

And, who knows, it could lead to a date later.

:D

Or not (although the detective that came to talk to us was very nice to look at. ;))

The meeting was quite informative.  The (former?) sex offender is moving into our condo complex and he's moving into a unit that is owned by his mother who has to move into an assisted-living facility.  He's also living with three other family members, so he has some support.  His offenses happened ten years ago and the officer said that he didn't have any information that the man has reoffended and that he (the officer) felt that most likely, he's not going to.  He's also doing everything that the law requires and has been very open about answering questions.  One of the women who lives next door to him has spoken with him a few times and said that she's felt very comfortable around him.

So, it's more than likely a non-issue.  Our property manager has spoken with him a few time and hasn't gotten any kind of negative vibe from him, either.
