Good Evening!

Well, I headed out for a walk earlier, and ended up walking down to 125th Street... Then down to 116th Street.. Then down to 110th Street (Central Park North)... Then over to Broadway... Back up to 116th... Hopped on the train... I meant to get off at 145th, but got distracted by my iPhone, so I de-trained at 157th... Then walked back down to 146th - a.k.a. Home.

So, yes, I had a nice, long walk.  -And the overcast skies and cooler temps made for a very comfortable walking experience too.

And in local news today:

Driver of photo-radar van arrested for DUI

He was on the job, driving to a site to set up the speed camera.

I, too, got that e-mail re Palin and banning books - it totally sounded bogus to me and I think that it's going to be par for the course in the next weeks.  And the people forwarding them to friends should really think twice before doing so and do the tiny bit of research to find out that it's BS.

Der B and I have souped.  In fact, we have bisqued.

It was a lobster bisque, bought pre-made from the store.  Since I've got a store employee card, we were able to get the bisque for about 50 cents off the regular price.

Was it the best lobster bisque I've ever had?  No, but it was certainly better than any lobster bisque I've made myself.

Oh, wait... I've never made lobster bisque.

Among the other pre-made soups offered are crab bisque and Maryland crab soup.  The only soup that doesn't interest me in the slightest is the broccoli cheese soup.  Just not a soup I care for.

Hmm...

So, it appears that when you download a TV program in the newly released iTunes 8, you get both the standard definition version and the HD version.  -At least that's just what happened to me.  So... I'm trying to figure out how to remove the 1.5Gig(!) download from my iTunes queue.  ???

I also ran out of water yesterday but didn't realize it until today.  So, I haven't had my usual bottle of water, and I'm completely out of flavored sparkling waters, and only have Diet Coke, of which I've had one.  A trip to the market will be in order this very evening after dinner.

While I regularly hope anyone of average intelligence would do some kind of research, to verify the truth of some of the spewage that goes on during elections, I regretably know those hopes will not be rewarded.  For one thing, too many people can't be bothered with doing research, even when they are of average intelligence.  For another thing, average intelligence means exactly that - half of the population is of above average intelligence, and the other half of the population falls below.  When those above the half-way point can't be bothered with doing the research, I don't see how we can expect others to follow suit.

This goes a long way towards explaining the magazine racks at the check-out lines this week.  Sure, Time and Newsweek had Palin on their covers, and I have little doubt that they took their reportage seriously.  But when People, Star, OK, and every other gossip rag has her on the cover, putting promises of dirt on the pages inside in large yellow headlines (and why always yellow headlines, so reminiscent of yellow journalism), I really regret the current state of journalism.

Hi, guys...

I'm finally going to take the plunge and go up to New  York to see a play...

But no way do I want to stay in downtown Manhattan where hotel prices are ridiculous.

The Holiday Inn at Kennedy Airport has rooms for $145 a night, and supposedly there's a subway stop right by it that will take me to downtown Manhattan...

Anyone have any experience with this - how long does it take to go downtown... and does the subway still run late at night after the play's over? And is it safe to ride that late at night?

I must say I am completely rattled by this constant stream of "and one of them may not make it" in the trailers for next week's THE CLOSER.

As to today's Sarah Palin Book List, I was sent the email by a person I believe to be of more than above average intelligence, who - I'm sure - received it from someone he considered to be of above average intelligence. I find it sad that someone's spreading lies but I'm sure there will more of it on both sides. Remember all the brouhaha a couple of weeks ago about Obama's plane?

First of all, the subways run 24/7 in NYC.  However, the frequency of the trains decreases after 11:00pm.  Just check mta.info for more info.

As for staying out by JFK, well... That's quite a trip into the city!  A minimum of 45 minutes on the A or E, and after 11:00pm (or 10:30pm as is usually the case), the trip on the A back out to JFK could easily run an hour or longer.  Check the Trip Planner on mta.info for more accurate trip times.

Is it safe?  Yes, it's safe.  It's all a matter of how safe you feel.

You should also contact your hotel to see if they have any better information regarding getting into Manhattan.

Is the train stop by the hotel one of the Air Train stops? or the actual subway line?  The A or the E?  -It's faster to take the E out to JFK during the day - but depending which side of the Airport the hotel is on, you may have to take the A.  -If you look at the subway maps, you'll see that the A/E basically run in a loop from JFK.

In other words...

DR 3DDiffusion - Bring an iPod and/or a book and/or a newspaper. ;)

*I'd also check into Priceline-ing or Hotwire-ing a hotel in Manhattan proper.  The hotels around JFK are not generally known for their "niceness".

I agree with Jose - check the web for hotel prices in Manhattan proper, and also check Craig's List, because sometimes you can find a terrific place for $145 a night.

My Palin book banning e-mail came from Cissy Wechter, a woman of more than average intelligence, and was sent to all her friends.  I just hit reply all and sent the link that was listed here earlier.  And I've already gotten a couple of e-mails from people who basically said "Who are you" and didn't want to be told it wasn't the truth.  People's political agendas are so strong sometimes they'll believe anything that's told to them because it plays into what they want to hear and believe.

From what I've seen so far, I'm not so enamored of Ms. Palin, but that doesn't mean I'm going to now believe every bad comment about her, just as I don't believe all the bad comments I'm seeing about Obama, McCain, and Biden.  It was a much better world without the Internet, politics-wise - not much, but better.

And I just set a lunch for tomorrow - going to Chin Chin, which is mere moments from my house - haven't been there in over fifteen years.
