I always want Mum to make a stuffed flank steak.
Long before the London Broil phase, we would get pocketed flanks fresh from the butcher at a very, very low price.
Just a regular flank stuffed with traditional dressing; still my favorite red meat meal.

I just heard the funniest thing on NPR -

They sent their intrepid report, Fiona, to talk about the experience of attending the Burning Man festival in Nevada.

She got out of her car, looked around, and said into the microphone:

"It looks like Sodom and Gomorrah: The Awkward Years"   ;D

I did sleep with windows open last night and the attic fan pulling in the 69 degree air, but you can imagine that it didn't stay cool for long, and now I've got the house shut up tight with the A/C ready to click on. It hasn't yet, but it's only a matter of time.

As I mentioned to DR Edie, I'll be continuing to work on GREY'S ANATOMY on Blu-ray today. I'm enjoying watching the episodes again even if the show's writers really painted themselves into corners early in the season. Nice to know by season's end, many of the corners had been finished off with doors opened to new, more appealing rooms.

I have last night's MONK to catch up with, too, but I may not get to it until tomorrow. I really want to get as much of GREY'S watched as I can today, and since I've seen the episodes already, I can cook and eat lunch and not have to sit with a pen and pad taking notes about shows where I already know what's going to happen.

Saturday morning greetings!  It's a family-filled 3-day weekend for me.  Rob and Mary Linda are here and my mom is coming over for the Michigan Wolverines' first appearance on our new TV.

TOD - My mother used to make faboo chicken and dumplings - the fluffy drop kind - with amazing chicken gravy.  I've never been able to duplicate this particular dish.

My mother made really good tacos, and really good cheese enchiladas, and really good chile.

All of which was odd, because she hailed from Syracuse, NY.  Until she married my Dad and moved to Burbank, CA, she had never even heard of such dishes.

I make danged good chile, but have never had any success with making tacos or enchiladas.

My mother prepared two foods that I've never found bettered:

1. fried chicken

2. cocoanut cake

She would NEVER give me the recipe for either of them and thus, they're lost forever.
