I think he should be bitch-slapped.  Gently, of course. . .  ;)

My thoughts exactly.  I mean, what is the purpose of DR JoseSPiano having an iPhone, if not to share these moments with us, his fellow Dear Readers?    8)

Or to semi-quote from Company..

I just kept staring... and staring...

I am exhausted after an information-waitressing day that totally confirmed my retirement decision.  It was weirdness from beginning to end.

Richard and I went out for some dinner, then to Kroger for a bit of shopping.  We didn't do the fill-up-the-fridge thing, because we're still a bit concerned about the whole grid crashing again.  Plus, as I just learned from my mother, we don't know how fresh the stuff in the stores is either.  We'll stock up gradually.

The salad bar is much more economical for salad for the 2 of us than buying a whole head of lettuce and all the add-ins from the produce section.  I also use the salad bar for lettuce, tomatoes, and peppers for tacos.

DR Jose - I love the salad bar at the back of Cranberry Deli on 45th St.

He's been doing them for years -- before I got rid of the television.

It has been interesting reading up on Tommy Kirk.  These are probably stories that I have read before, but I find that as I get older; stories I have read before, now seem practically brand new.

Walt Disney perosnally fired Tommy Kirk because he learned that he was gay.  The funny thing is that Disney then had to turn around and rehire him, because they needed him to star in the Merlin Jones sequel, THE MONKEY'S UNCLE.  I hope he made them pay him well for that movie.

In the irony department:

On day 3 or 4 of our 5-day power outage, the meter reader from Duke Energy left one of those "read your own meter" cards in our door.

Good Evening!

So... On the train ride back uptown, there was a (nice looking) gentleman sorting through a bag of athletic equipment.  At first I - and some other people - thought he had pulled out a bag of athletic supporters and was sorting them.  However, each strap seemed to have two jocks/cups attached to them.  Hmm...  Well, after some more observation and deduction, I realized that they were caps that water polo players wear.  The (small) cups were the ear protectors.  However, the look on the face of the woman sitting next to him... Priceless!  :)

When we used to have salad bars in most grocery stores in Washington, I used to buy them often, because it wasn't cost effective to buy all of the stuff to make one salad for myself.  Of course, I quickly learned what items you should and should not get from a salad bar when you are paing by the pound.  I love kidney beans in green salad, but I was paying over $2.00 for a couple of spoonfuls of kidney beans from the salad bar, when I could buy a whole can for 59 cents.

If any DRs would like a fascinating miniseries, I can recommend heartily this 4-disc set about the life of scandalous actress Lillie Langtry, which has an excellent cast. I'm on the 3rd disc and cannot wait till Netflix sends the 4th.  We're now up to her second American tour, and so far the count is:
   1 husband
2 lovers the Prince of Wales, Arthur Jones, Prince Leopold, Fred Gephard'
   3 one daughter by Leopold
4 friends with Sarah Bernhard, Oscar Wilde, James Whistler, etc.

Coming up: Lillian Russell, Diamond Jim Brady, Judge Roy Bean, American citizenship.

Francesca Annis is fantastic as Mrs Langtry, I might add, but so is everyone else.

Second only to the original Cobb Salad at the Brown Derby is a fantastic lobster salad that they used to serve at the Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

It's been well over 25 years since I've been there, so I'm not really sure if they still have it.

Some other people of interest at the October Ray Courts show include:

Dynasty's Gordon Thomas

Except that is John James, not Gordon Thompson.

I was able to watch six episodes of CSI: NY, my next review set. CSI: NY is now the only one of the three CSI shows which I will be watching this season. Who would have ever dreamed that it would turn out to be my favorite of the three? For me, CSI has become dull and CSI: MIAMI over-the-top ridiculous.

CSI: NY is the only one which has consistently come up with interesting stories and let its cast do its work without being encumbered with personal life interferences. They do touch on their personal lives, but it doesn't become the focus of the show, at least, it hasn't yet.

I also listened to the one audio commentary that is present in this set. It was only a fair discussion of episode #5 which had to do with virtual worlds. And the killer got away at the end of it which Anthony Zuiker, who created the series and does the commentary, thought was great.

I came up to the computer a little earlier than usual since I didn't really have enough time left to see anything else through to conclusion. Maybe I can get to MAD MEN tomorrow while I cook and eat lunch.

YUM!

-And I happened to have roasted brussel sprouts as part of my lunch at MoMA today.  They were roasted with shallots, then sprinkled with some sea salt and pomegranate seeds.  YUM!

DR Jose - I love the salad bar at the back of Cranberry Deli on 45th St.

When Anthony and I volunteer in December I walk to Cranberry for lunch and use that very same Salad Bar. It is very good.

I just got back from Equus. It's still a very compelling play some 35 years later. It's very well done and Daniel Radcliffe does an excellent job. It's well directed and well acted although the only person I didn't care for is Kate Mulgrew. I've seen her in other things and enjoyed her performances but she does such a bad accent that it sounds like something from First Year acting class (IMHO). The set is also not much to speak of. It's all greys and blacks with four large boxes which are used by the actors for various scenes. There are also grates for smoke effects and stall doors for the horses. They do the same thing with the horses that they did in the original with wire mesh masks and large wire devices for hooves.

All in all an excellent production. It was very intense and sexual and left me with the same sense of wonder as the first time I saw it.

And now, to bed.
