Just received to lovely packages in my office:

My Barack Obama hat and buttons and the official NBC 2008 Olympics DVDs that cover the opening ceremony and all about Michael Phelps (the cover of which is lacking a warning about containing nudity--dang!)

I am listening to Hildegard von Bingen (AKA Hildegard von Bingy Wingy), which of course raises the question, how in $(*& did they record her close to a millenium ago?

I've ALWAYS wondered that!

Well, I was the first to welcome DtM back, and what did I get?  Bupkis.  I should go complain to that daffy lady who used to post on RATM.  ;)

I got two rebate checks today that I had totally forgotten were coming, and am now several hundred dollars wealthier.  I'm happy.

DS Betsy had a long ago boyfriend who is now one of the big machers at NBC Sports.  He directs a lot of the Olympics coverage.  And he's Jason Alexander's cousin.  And still she married me.  ;)

Who is Ioana tp whom some here are wishing happy birthday?

Doe she lurk here? Read here? Post here?

Is there some reason a birthday greeting from total strangers mean anything to her?

Seriously...I ain't got no clue.

I have no idea if a birthday greeting from total strangers will mean anything to her  ;D  She does not lurk or post here.

Ioana is special in our lives as she is the reason our DS Craig spent an extra two years in Romania after his initial two years in the Peace Corps.  She is the reason he has Kitty & Yogi.  She found Kitty and gave her to Craig.  They both found Yogi on their doorstep in Bucharest.

Yahoo has up a list of worst dressed from last night's emmys.

I think some of their decisions are way off.

I hate those worst dressed lists to begin with, so unkind.  I would have to go back & look at it again, but over all I agree with you.  I thought some on that list were nicer than a few on the best dressed list.

Hmm... It's gotten quite overcast and a few degrees cooler over the past few hours here in NYC.  It looks like rain, but doesn't really feel like rain.  However, since I seem to have found myself in the middle of a cleaning jag, well.. Ce ne fait rien.

I want something that I can sort by alpha or by date. Every time I try to sort this on Quattro Pro it all gets out of whack.

I wonder if I have something better on my laptop computer.

Excel works fine, if you have it.

A diamond unearthed in the southern African nation of Lesotho could yield one of the largest and highest quality round polished diamonds, according to a statement Monday from company that found it.

Experts in Antwerp, Belgium who analyzed the 478-carat stone determined it to be of the highest color grading available for a white diamond, said a statement from Gem Diamonds Ltd., the company that found the stone.

TOD:

"Imagine you're  a forty-year-old, Richard," Hamilton said to me around this time, while working as a salesman at a Radio Shack in Lynn Valley, "and suddenly somebody comes up to you saying, 'Hi, I'd like you to meet Kevin.  Kevin is eighteen and will be making all of your career decisions for you.' I'd be flipped out.  Wouldn't you?  But that's what life is all about--some eighteen-year-old kid making your big decisions for you that stick for a lifetime." --Douglas Coupland, GIRLFRIEND IN A COMA

As for the Topic of the Day...

The final paragraphs of Michael Chabon's "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay".  I would post them, but then I would have to post a "Spoiler Warnng", and, frankly, I'm not in the mood for a good cry right now.  ;)  -A truly perfect, beautiful close to a wonderful piece of literature.

If I could find my copy I would re-read those final paragraphs.
