Thank you DR td.  I truly regret we didn't all meet in Pittsburgh.

Me, too.   :'(

Maybe you can get Keith to bring you to NYC sometime that's agreeable. . .

"Hi teach!

Wasn't that from Up the Down Staircase?

Yes indeed.

A nice lunch out and pretty quick, too, since I was able to get back and get some important viewing accomplished.

I thought I only had five CSI: NY episodes to watch, but it was six because I watched four this afternoon and there are still two left.

All good episodes and one great one involving kidnapped children and a fire.

There was one bonus feature on disc five, on artist Clemente Bornacelli who contributed three paintings for one of the episodes. Interesting to actually get to look at the paintings since they went by in a flash in the actual episode.

As I said, I have two episodes left plus the season wrap-up on disc six. I should easily be able to finish these when I go back down, long before HEROES comes on. I might be able to watch either MICHAEL CLAYTON or SLEUTH (probably teh latter; I think it's shorter) before I tune into HEROES at 9:30 or so.

I also had time to skim through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing of interest and nothing in the previews either.

"When I look back on my childhood I wonder how I survived it at all.  It was, of course, a miserable childhood: the happy childhood is hardly worth your while.  Worse than the ordinary miserable childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood.

People everywhere brag and whimper about the woes of their early years, but nothing can compare with the Irish version; the poverty; the shiftless loquacious alcoholic father; the pious defeated mother moaning by the fire; pompous priests; bullying schoolmasters; the English and the terrible things they did to us for eight hundred long years.

Above all—we were wet.”

USA TODAY

Quote

Early voting starts today in some states

FAIRFAX, Va. — Voters by the thousands will begin casting ballots for president this week in an early voting process that's expected to set records this year.

Residents of Virginia, Kentucky and Georgia are among the first in the nation eligible to vote in person, as well as by mail. During the next few weeks, at least 34 states and the District of Columbia will allow early in-person voting for Nov. 4 elections.

Experts such as Paul Gronke of the Early Voting Information Center predict nearly a third of the electorate will vote early this year, up from 15% in 2000 and 20% in 2004. In closely contested Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico, about half the voters are expected to cast ballots before Election Day. Florida could be 40%.

"It's a sea change," says Rosemary Rodriguez, head of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. "This is a little bit astounding."

It's all part of the most extensive early voting process in history. The campaigns of Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama are already focused on getting voters to the polls, even as their general election contest is taking shape — and before any of the debates.

TRANSLATION: The election may already be decided before the last debates, and before anybody votes on Election Day.

Philadelphia isn't far from NY.  And if we drive between Philadelphia & Chicago...:)

I just hope I'm not dreaming because I NEVER imagined we wouldn't return to Pittsburgh while Craig was still there.

I've returned from a lovely day of socializing and listening to Jerome Kern. MUSIC IN THE AIr has a lot of music and the orchestra got through all of Act One under the leadership of the mighty wonderful Rob Berman before the lunch break. The second act ran from 2-4. I sat with Josh Clayton, the mighty music prep master at Encores!, and his brother Jeremy with one set of full scores, and the R&H office sat next to us with another set of scores. There were lots of nice surpise visits from Don Oliver, an old friend from Chelsea Music Service, Kern estate attorney Andy Boose, Alice Hammerstein, Oscar's daughter, and others.

I like the yellow dress, on her anyway.  I can imagine getting a bit outrageous for these events.  It can be difficult to find the right balance between fun & different, and toooo much.

Well the "between 10:30 and 12:30" for the roto rooter man ended up being 2:45 and they were very grumpy that I had called several times.  Oh well.  They  rotoed and rootered and it took them quite a while to get it clear, but get it they did.   They also left a bunch of crud behind, so I have mopped the floor, done dishes and made a batch of chili.

Whew!  It wasn't how I wanted to spend my day off, but it needed to be done and I would have had to come home for it, so whatever...
