I thought the title was about ME. I know -- always about ME. Well, I'm glad I'm not the P Problem. I'll try not to discuss anything having to do with food or drink or floop.

What's happened to all the late night denizens? I'm all alone here and so not sleepy.  Oh well. Talking to myself online is rather pathetic, so I'll sign off and discuss poetry with the wonderdog.

Good Evening!  Good Morning!

As BK mentioned in his notes, we did have a good show earlier tonight/last night.  It felt like we're all past the "nervous" stage, and now we can truly get out there and have fun, and share our fun with the audience.  -It's nice to breathe! ;)

Unfortunately, my brother, Jay, was not able to make it up from San Diego - he got trapped at work until around 4:30... And if he had tried to drive up from San Diego at that time... -I'm not even from here, and I know that that would have been a "stupid" thing to do.  Maybe next weekend...

DR Michael Shayne - Going back to your inquiry from yesterday...  The Galaxy Diner in Richmond - not the one on 9th Ave in New York City - had an appetizer sampler that consists of: fried pickle spears, devilled eggs and a scoop of vanilla ice cream!  *When they re-vamped the menu last year, the basket of food that comes to your table now has fried pickle spears and a hard-boiled egg.  Ah well...  In any case, it has a name.. Well... I can't remember the exact name... but it was something like "The Expectant Mother", "Late Night Cravings" or something like that.

-And, actually, the vanilla ice cream helps to cut the salt and acid from the fried pickles. ;)

I have been recording from tape to CD today. Nearly every song is very C & W.  Each to his own but I found there was too much weeping and wailing about dead dogs and straying women (or the other way around) for my taste. Needless to say, the CD is not for me. I don't usually venture much further than Marty Robbins and Patsy Cline when it comes to Nashville etc.

I hope to return in another 15 hours or so with a change of listening material.

I have at my desk in no particular order

Funny Girl (Soundtrack w/Miss Streisand & Mr. Sharif)

They're Playing Our Song (Broadway w/Miss Arnaz & Mr. Klein)

Stop the World I Want to Get Off (Broadway w/Mr. Newley & Miss Quayle, no relation to Dan - I have the London version on tape and need to transfer it to CD at some point - there are slight differences in lyrics and orchestrations between the two)

Annie (Broadway w/Miss McArdle & Miss Loudon)

Applause (Broadway w/Miss Bacall and Mr. Cariou or Caribou as a friend used to call him)

Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris (ah, to be living in Paris or Honfleur or London or Dublin - Off-Broadway w/Miss Stone, Mr. Shuman, Mr. Elliot and Miss Whitfield)

Hallelujah, Baby (Broadway w/Miss Uggams, Mr. Hooks and Mr. Case)

We have nothing in the VCR since Anthony's dance class is on hiatus until September 23rd. We watched an episode of Two's Company on Channel 21.

Tonight we will be making final preparations for our trip to the Heartlands (that area which confuses DR Noel  ;)) AKA Minnesota (it borders Canada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin). No word from DR Robin so no attempts to meet will be made. We will see the State Fair, Red Wing, Cheapo Records and, of course, family. 4 sisters, 1 brother (the other is in Iraq with the Army National Guard), 3 nieces and a nephew.

That's it for now.

If DR Ben has arrived what am I doing at the computer.

Never did "Get" "they're playing our song". Just find the show and the lyrics a dead bore. The show was very successful here in Melbourne - but not for me.

I'll give your regards to London and Paris Ben but we wont be going to Honfleur this time. Hope your trip to Minnesota goes well.  Always think of Perry Como's "sipped a minnesota" (Delaware) when I see or hear the name.

If someone were waving a corn dog at me, I would leave immediately!  I LOVE corn dogs.....

At any rate, Friday's Media Check:
CD/Car: FOLLIES (Paper Mill)
CD/Office:  Liz Callaway: On and Off Broadway (Yes, still)
DVD: Empty
VCR: A Big Brother from Tuesday, I believe

I am of two minds on THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG.  The score itself is fairly brief, if you discount all those reprises.  The story itself is slight.  The original NY staging was fun (I love turntables....espeically donut turntables.)  The performances by Miss Arnaz and Mr. Klein were never matched by any replacement cast that I saw (I think I saw the original production 3 times).  All of this being said, I am a big fan of both of Miss Arnaz' big ballads "Just for Tonight" and "I Still Believe in Love."

So, I have this slight problem of not being able to use the bathroom. Isn't that annoying? I mean, I can use it but I can't flush until Mr. Plumber Man does his business. Yes, Virginia, I cannot do my business until Mr. Plumber Man does his business. I'm hoping they will come today to fix it so that I don't have to deal with this problem all weekend. I think it only affects one of the bathrooms but they couldn't tell me which one.

Sounds like Flushin Roulette.

Good toilet vibes to BK.

DR Stuart, well put. I agree w/your notes on TPOS. I think I enjoy it because I saw the original cast and spoke (albeit briefly) to Miss Arnaz after the show, passing on greetings from a mutual friend. I also have a dear friend who was in one of the national tours w/Dick Latessa playing the Robert Klein role. It's not a CD I play often but sometimes I just pull it out for a quick listen and then re-file it for another long period on the shelf.

CD - Since DE LOUSY left such a bad taste in my mouth I have been listening to various Cole Porter CDs in my collection to hear his songs sung properly and to re-hear some of his great songs I have not heard in a while.

DVD - Mickey, Donald & Goofy (not to mention Minnie, Daisy, Pluto, Clarabelle, et. al.) in THE THREE MUSKETEERS.  Although I'm sure much of this is computer animated, it looks hand drawn and there are a few scenes which appear to be done on a multi-plane camera.  The script is okay, but more jokes don't work (or are not funny) than do.  The score is several warhorses of classical music with new lyrics.  And there are 7½ minutes of credits following 1 hour of film!  It's not a classic Disney film, but is better than much of the non-Pixar animated output that Disney has been releasing lately.  I found out the reason it went Direct To Video.  If a film is released to theatres and grosses  less than $100,000,000 Wal-Mart will not promote the video release or give it major shelf space.  The last few Disney films that were made with DVD/VHS in mind (second rate sequals to classic titles) did not do that much business and the folks at The House of Eisner wanted to make sure this film got a major push from Wal-Mart so it bypassed a theatrical release in case it didn't gross enough to please Wal-Mart, which will promote promising Direct-To-Video releases.

VHS - Nothing

Cassette - "Dick Tracy in B Flat", a 1945 radio musical version of the comic strip with Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Judy Garland, Dinah Shore, Jimmy Durante, Frank Sinatra, The Andrew Sisters, Frank Morgan, Cass Daly, Jerry Colona and Harry VonZell.

Yikes.  I hate Walmart.  There's ample reason to hate Disney.  You put the two together and what do you get: limited entertainment choices.  Bad for the consumer.

Well, THIS sounds like a lot of fun.  Who wrote this musical?  Where did you get such a thing?

A broader question: Were there a lot of original musicals written for radio?  BK recorded some of the best written-for-tv songs in Prime Time Musicals.  Maybe there's gold in them ol' radio hills worthy of another album.

And then I watched last night's installment.  I can't figure out who is is going to have more fun this week, Marvin or Will.....  (and I hope that is not construed as a spoiler, it's not meant to be.....)

Oh well....thank you thank you thank you DR's for all the good birthday wishes yesterday!  They were much appreciated, as always......

From the rockbound shores of Maine to the sunny shores of California....no wait, that's a different speech...

PANNI found her stud, wonderful glad to take the credit (along with birthday twin JOSE) and I am watching for the check.

Scanning the notes yesterday, for a moment I though Jayne Mansfield had been named Poet Laureate....but it was John Masefield....I must read more slowly.

And yes...I even read the notes quickly....didn't realize that the esteemed Mr BK specified movie/tv comedy teams yesterday.  So I will go with Burns and Allen, Martin and Lewis, and Abbott and Costello....with a nod to Hope and Crosby (and Lamour).

Spent the day WORKING and then rehearsing...and wonder of wonder, miracle or miracles....things improved and everything will be all right.

MR BK where did you get the DAISY CLOVER/DEAD RINGER cd?  I love the DR score.

Okay
CD Player:  Patsy Cline and Teresa Brewer CD's!
VCR: Thoroughly Modern Millie
DVD:  Drums in the Deep South with Guy Madison & Barbara Payton.

Comcast is giving me problems.  I called Shan-dru of customer service and she said the first time anyone could come out would be September 2....I said sooner if at all possible...so I may not have internet service this weekend!  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrr...then I yelled at a high school kid who cuts across my lawn every morning instead of using the sidewalk.

THEN I called the police and told them and ask them to park there on Monday morning....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

I need my internet back in the morning to keep me happy and the world peaceful!

GREAT WHAT IF! news from reviews to audiences.  Congratulations to Mr BK DRJOSE and the cast, crew, and staff!  Now aren't you glad that playwright was a ...well....a horse's neck?

Well, looks like my trip to the Hollywood Collector's show is cancelled...for me, anyhow! Doggone it!

I received an invitation in the mail to a wedding that I knew was coming up, but didn't know when...well it is the same weekend that I was planning to fly down to Burbank! Aaaargh! It is a very important wedding which I simply cannot miss...I am sure glad I hadn't bought my plane ticket yet!

And if I had known about this earlier I could have instead gone down to Las Vegas this weekend with some buddies (I had to decline the invitation because I was saving my money for Burbank!)

COunt me as another defender of THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG. Slight story and brief score, but I still found it very entertaining. I have in the last couple of years used "Fallin'" as an audition song suggested by Guy Haines' recording of it on his CD. I also like the ballads Ms. Arnaz sings though I'm not a great fan of her voice. I'm sure she fit the part beautifully.

I empathize with you, BK, about not being able to use the "necessary" -- whenever one is told not to use it, one can only think OF using it.

I hope you are on good terms with your neighbors until the problem is corrected.  Perhaps you could make a drive over to Panni's cottage??? Or to the Pogues?? Or to any number ofyour good friends who might be more closely located ("Hi, don't mind me.  I'll be in the euphemism!")  (Wow! Both a "1776" reference AND a "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" reference in the same post!!!).

On my DVD:  "Broadway Melody of 1940" -- I've begun the "...Beguine" but I cannot stop.  I must do it over and over and over again.

New to my CD player:  I've pulled two John Williams CDs with Olympics music on them...just a bit of atmosphere when the NBC and MSNBC telecasts aren't musical enough.  Also, Disc 2 from the "Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers at RKO" set.  Primarily for "Bojangles of Harlem" and "Change Partners", neither of which I can ever hear too often.

Is anyone else as entirely happy as I am that today is FRIDAY???????

For "Big Brother" fans:  Ding! Dong!  One of the (w)itches is gone!    And now Natalie gets to spend a week ALONE in the sequester house with Will.  Very amusing.  I noted last night that he's selected the very place she and Adria can bunk down each night...an area of the patio that, as Will put it, is hard, cold and wet!

Marvin is my favorite player.  Nakomis is second.  I know Marvin isn't approachable for alliances (or he hasn't been), but he and Nakomis have been on the same track for some time.  I'm speculating wildly about who he might put up for eviction.  My thought is that Cowboy is one of them.  Whether he opts to continue the twin exorcism and put up Adria, or whether he throws the long-overdue Drew into the eviction pool is not clear at this point.  Drew desperately needs to learn what it feels like to be nominated.  He's the biggest wuss in the house and doesn't seem to have any clear-cut convictions.  Marvin truly doesn't like anyone in the house, but he despises Cowboy.  I'm also not clear where he stands on Karen and Diane, although he's been pretty critical of both in the past.  We won't "learn" (theoretically) until Tuesday night who he selected.

Panni, such good news you found your earring.  How about you come and find my missing engagement ring-it’s only been missing 25 years now.

Thanks Danise.

Jennifer, yesterday and today I look like a chipmunk, well one side of my face does.  Otherwise I’m doing okay thanks.

Dan (the Man) who was the poem LITANY written for?

My favorite poems are the ones Keith wrote to me.

Yesterday when we arrived home there was a package on the front porch, delivered by FedEx and I’m sure our own MBarnum’s brother.  Why am I sure it was delivered by said brother, because sitting on top of the package was a treat for Echo. :)

Ben your trip sounds wonderful.  Have a great time.
