I watched ANIMAL CRACKERS this afternoon. Yep, Universal has cleaned it up. Those darned edits are still present in the musical numbers, but they aren't as choppy as they have appeared before. Looks like somehow they have smoothed them out a bit. I was quite pleased with the quality of the disc.

BTW - On my way home from borrowing some popcorn (I ran out and who wants to go to the supermarket this time of night with millions of frenzied post-work Christmas-crazed shoppers) - anyway, on my way home, I decided that I needed something sweet. I dropped in to a local bakery/restaurant. They had a slew of interestingly flavored bagels. Usually I abhor sweet bagels, but this time I was willing to give them a taste. This is a place that usually has samples sitting on the counter. I asked if there were any samples available of the cinammon crunch bagels. The young clerk said, "Samples? No. I'll just give you a bagel. If you like it, you'll buy one next time. If you don't like it, I'll give you another flavor."
And he did. And I did like it. And next time I WILL buy one. Now THAT'S good customer PR!
I've had something similar happen to me, several years ago.  I'd been stopping on my way from the bus stop to work to get a cup 'o joe at Starbucks, but was faced with increasing lines and, sadly, increasing rudeness from the staff.  One morning, I simply skipped out of the line and headed on in to work.  There was, however, an independent coffee joint enroute, so I went in there.  Chris, the javameister, noticed my grumpiness and got me to tell my tale of woe.  He told me that that day's cup was on the house, because if I liked it, I'd be back.

I never went back to Starbucks, never wanted to and never needed to.  And Chris got a loyal customer.

Speaking of the lost... There are posters up all over my neighborhood offering a $2000. reward - that's right, TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS - for a lost African parrot named Katie. I think the bird flew the coop because she was embarrassed by her name. I once had the sweetest dog in the world and my then very young DD named her Katie. Fine for a dog -- but not a parrot. IMHO.

Thank you, Panni. Once the video arrives, I'll do some screen grabs and show you folks what I've been boring you about for two months.

Tonight, for example, fueled by popcorn and hot chocolate, I'll be pulling as much of an all-nighter as I can manage.

We can have an all-nighter party together! I am fueled by Cherry Coke and a sandwich from Fazoli's.

I only have five pages to go! Woo hoo!! And then I get to memorize it so that I can present my paper tomorrow. At least this presentation is instead of a final. Whew!

Vibes for Jane and Jose. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rose Marie, too, in a sense.

DR Stuart, have you ever seen clips of Rose Marie performing in vaudeville as a child?  She was belting them out at the age of five.

And wasn't Rose Marie also considered to dub Miss Roz in the film of GYPSY?

Well, it's almost 9:00 and I'm going to go so that I can start recording BK on the radio (a Donna Summer reference).  I hope that my computer doesn't crash!

As I stated earlier, it's not just the genre I don't enjoy, it's also Brando.  For that matter, I don't enjoy Cahn or Pacino much, either.  That doesn't knock the acting out of the ballpark for me; it's a strike-out.

Let's put in a parallel here.  Suppose someone had told you that this most magnificent film had come out, and that you had to see it, and if you didn't there was something wrong with you.  It's a daring film starring a singer in his first dramatic film role, semi-autobiographical but very important.

Would you still have wanted to see 8 Mile?

Me neither.

Yes!

.........but instead they told me it was a poorly made film by that homophobic snot of a rap singer.
