A few nights ago, der Brucer practically demanded I make Sloppy Joes.  And not that Manwich stuff from a can, but fresh.  So I chopped up an onion and a bell pepper, added ground beef and let that all cook for a while, then added a small can of chopped olives, a small can of green chiles, a large can of black beans, and a can each of diced tomatoes and tomato paste.  (Opening the cans is good for you, if you use a hand-powered can opener.  Good for the wrist muscles.)  A little salt, some garlic, some cumin, let it all simmer for a while.

Meanwhile, I toasted up some English muffins (we didn't have any buns on hand, the mufins worked great), and popped some tater tots in the oven.  That was a quick and easy hot meal, and qualifies as an open-faced sandwich because of the muffins!

Oh, the Sloppy Joes are just as good the next day, if you toast up the muffins/buns just before dishing it out.  And they're great with shredded cheese on top!

My oh my MRBK - your hair has certainly been around the block today, and it hasn't even left the house.

Everyone in the office was ordering Chinese food, and since it's so  #$$^*( cold out today, and since it's a 15 minute drive from the office to the nearest Quiznos, I ordered the chicken & cashews.

Unfortunately, this turned out to be rice and rice and some more rice with carrots and celery and onions and some more carrots and another bushel of celery and two (count 'em TWO) cashews and some substance purporting to be chicken, although I have my doubts. :P

Oh !! If only I had not been so PUSILLANIMOUS about braving the cold and the traffic.....

Dear SWW, your stories of cooking entice, entrap,  enrapture me...please, please  come and cook for me...I implore you!!!! (especially after that horrible lunch I just had!)  :D

WHEW, what a week.  Sorry I've been so E&T lately, but the job is kicking in!

I'm off to the land of Orange, to the city of Anaheim to attend the Religious Education Congress at the Convention center in the city of Anaheim.  I'll be posting from there beginning tonight.  It's a great conference, I look forward to it each year.

DR vixmom and DR George, your goodies are going in the mail in a matter of minutes, I hope you enjoy them.

More later, probably from the City of Anaheim at the COAST hotel.

I have always been a huge fan of the open-faced hot turkey sandwich.  I'm also a sucker for the kid-favorites...grilled cheese and sloppy joes.

Now I'm hungry...thinking about lunch...gonna head to the store.

Good Afternoon!

When it rains it pours!

Well, after a brief conversation with my roomie, and a few phone calls, it looks like my days of leisure may be few and far between over the next week and a half.   And that's a good thing!

:D

I just need to sit down with my calendar and make sure there are enough days in the week/month/year to fit everything in!

Details to follow...

The one on eBay is the true first edition of The Case of the Dancing Sandwiches.  But I think the one on the other site is the same image, too.

But first I must go pick up a package.  The package has been sitting there like so much fish since Tuesday - someone forgot to tell me it was there, even though I specifically ask them to look to make sure nothing is just sitting in the back.  They don't even care.

And speaking of raining it when it pours...

DR Jay sends his best.  He is very busy, "hopping", right now.  Which is a very good thing for him too.

He didn't ask for them, but I think some patented HHW VIBES would be in order for DR Jay.  And once those VIBES do their thing, then he'll be back here a-posting away.

Let us hope that all DRs are coming into a "good cycle" right now.

...And I unpacked my bags, put all my clothes away, and even did some vacuuming.  Now I just need to sort through all my papers, mail, stuff, etc...

And then start packing it all up again!

I should think, and this is just me, that if vibes are wanted then the wantee should come and ask for them.  Again, if there is time for endless e-mailing there must be time for a single solitary post.  Still, most excellent vibes and xylophones to the very errant and truant dear reader Jay.

He didn't ask for the Vibes.  I asked for them for him.  Every little bit helps.

If it means anything, at least he's asking for other DRs to say HI from/for him, rather then forgetting about HHW altogether.

"Manwich"...that's really a "Morlock", isn't it? (or should it be "morlox"?).

Canned meats....burp!

The really love THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW - Season 1. Great cast of characters and superb actors playing them.

But, I think the show became even greater in subsequent seasons which I'd like to have in pristine quality editions. Right now, I've got grainy videotapes with sloppy editing of commercials when I want to get a MARY fix.

Best vibes to Jay.  I know that there are those times in life when one needs to just focus on what they need to focus on and do what must be done, regardless of their druthers.
