I don't watch A/E much either....not sure if they do the Biography shows or not.  Hmmmmmmmm....

DRMATTH - the actions of the theatre you describe are a recipe for disaster. I have seen it over and over.  It is very sad.  And it usually goes back to two or three people who bully everyone else and claim to have answers - and the other people realize too late - NO ONE KNOWS in theatre....it's ALL guesswork.

The Hilary Swank debacle is a textbook case.

I think the only Sandra Dee movies I ever saw were COME SEPTEMBER and TAKE HER, SHE'S MINE.  I remember next to nothing about them.

Ah, Marc Chapeaux is here.

Not looking good for TV delivery.  It is pouring again.  As I said, given that I think this rain is never stopping, I don't know when I'll be getting it.

The news of Sandra's death is a radio item here. I hope she is remembered for far more than a line in "Grease". She was a part of childhood many of us at this site remember as particularly golden

For me she recalls summer days at the beach, such as the day the photo on my avatar was taken.

TV has arrived.  Who knew?  He first has to unhook everything and get the old TV out of here and into the garage.  I think this will be a two or three hour job.  Then, I'm hoping he can take it directly to Tammy's, but I haven't heard from her yet.  If not, it will have to stay in the garage and I'll have to keep my car on the street tonight, which I don't love doing.

Hi folks.  Pardon me if I don’t stay long.  I’ve spent all day today trying to get the Pocket PC to connect to the internet.  I have been back and forth to Brandon five times.

I called HP, Boingo and San Disk.  The final conclusion you ask?  Well let me tell you.  There is NOTHING wrong with the wi-fi card or the settings.  It just doesn’t work as far as hooking up with the net and NO ONE knows why.

The tech at Boingo went so far as to tell me that he has never heard of anyone connecting to the net with Pocket PC.  Go check their web page if you want to get a good laugh about that statement.

I am so tired, so upset, so very, very, very MAD.  I did all of the updates.  I rebooted, reloaded everything, reset back to factory settings, downloaded and install all updates.  Not in that order.  Nothing.

I can’t even return the wi-fi card.  CompUSA said there was no problem with the card finding the hot spots.  Oh, it lists them alright.  There were NINE of them in their store alone.  I just can’t connect to any of them.

I have a headache the size of Texas and don’t know if I want to scream or cry.

Thanks for allowing me to vent.  I’m going to go try to watch a movie and take my mind off of the computer for awhile.

Jose, take my advise and don't even try a wi-fi.  It's not worth it. :( >:( :-\ :'( :P

I feel for you Danise! Technical stuff like that is so exasperating...my friend Justin is big into computers and I relied on him more then a few times to help me with things...but now he lives far, far awaay! Doggone!

My DVD burner has stopped working  and I don't know how to fix it. I think it might need to have the  dust and cat hairs sucked out as part of the error message I get when I tried to burn a DVD is that the DVD burner is dirty! LOL! Who knew!

I just don't want to take everything apart and take the modem to the shop. Bleh.

With all of the recent celebrity deaths it has reminded me that I need to really get on the ball and do interviews with more of the people from the 1930 and 40s (those that I can find, that is)....I don't want their stories to be lost to the ages.

I was doing some research on the old 1930s B westerns and was surprised to see that a whole slew of the leading ladies from those films passed away within the last 2 or 3 years.

I've left a message with our hosting company - hopefully there's someone there to deal with it.  Maybe there is, since I'm back on now.

I now have erumpent grief over the loss of Sandra Dee.
Today, I finally purchased Darin's ACES BACK TO BACK, without having heard of Sandra's untimely death.
On the positive side, I found Season One of CARNIVALE used at The Game Spot for under thirty bucks. . .

I will have to decide which DVD to put in when everything's all hooked up - to test.  Perhaps Star Wars or perhaps something that I know didn't look quite up to snuff on the other TV.

LOS ANGELES - John Raitt, the robust baritone who created the role of Billy Bigelow in the original New York production of "Carousel" and sang with Doris Day (news) in the movie "Pajama Game," died Sunday. He was 88.

Raitt, the father of singer Bonnie Raitt (news), died peacefully from complications of pneumonia at his Pacific Palisades home, his manager, James Fitzgerald, said in a statement.

Raitt had become well known on the West Coast for his handsome presence and ringing voice when in 1944 he was invited to New York to try out for the role of Curly in the road company of "Oklahoma!" He was rushed from Penn Station to the St. James Theater and an audition with Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers.

In 1995, Raitt recalled: "I hadn't sung since California, so I said, 'Do you mind if I warm up?' I sang Figaro's aria from 'The Barber of Seville.' Then I sang all of Curly's songs.'"

There was silence when he finished. The problem was not his voice, which was both melodic and powerful, but his height. At 6 feet 2 was he too tall for Curly? Hammerstein reasoned: "I'm a tall man. Why can't Curly be tall?" Raitt was hired for the Chicago company of "Oklahoma!"

Rodgers and Hammerstein had been working on their second collaboration, "Carousel," and they chose Raitt for the role of the doomed hero Billy Bigelow.

Raitt astounded the opening-night audience in 1945 with his dynamic soliloquy, which he called "practically a one-act opera which took six and a half minutes to sing." He said Hammerstein had been inspired to write it when he heard the newcomer sing Figaro at the audition.

Raitt, unlike Dee, had an incredibly long and full life.  Different kinds of sad.

Assembling of the stand continues., as does the incessant rain.

Sandra Dee has died, unless she shares the same publicist as John Raitt and Harvey Schmidt.  (Sorry--un-PC humor is my specialty).

I'm much more of a un-iMac humor kind of guy..... but..... who's asking for my opinion anyway!?! :)

I'm pretty sure someone is running Biography (at least the Frances Farmer one), because I get fairly regular emails from deranged people who have seen me on that one.  :)  We don't have cable--I actually had to go to a friend's house to watch the FF Bio when it first aired lo, those many years ago.

Welcome nine (!) GUESTS.  We're talkin' about ERUMPENT and my new TV.  Stand is almost, but not quite, assembled.  And then he will probably put all the equipment into it prior to actually bringing in the TV.  We're both hoping we get a small window sans rain for him to get the old TV into the garage and the new TV in the house.

I think if this continues for another day, you will be getting the "official" report of what I've been saying for the last four days - this is the worst rainfall in the history of Los Angeles.

It is now coming down so hard it's unbelivable.  It had abated somewhat during the afternoon, but in the last half hour the streets outside my window are flooded once again.   I have lived in this city for fifty-seven years, and let me tell you I have seen nothing like this.  We've had brief periods which have been as bad, but this puts them to shame.

Now, may I just say quote my close personal friends Miss Barbra Streisand and Miss Donna Summer: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

The So Cal. rain has probably cancelled "Fantasmic" this eve.  We're going to call in a few minutes.  Well, it's just another excuse to come to Disneyland.  It's really wet here, and from what I hear, it's no better in the Bay Area.

Stand is fully assembled and looking very spiffy.  All equipment is now on the various shelves of the stand.  All wires are now being reconnected to the various equipment.

When that is done, old TV will go out, new TV will go in.

Good Evening!

Back from Steve's soon-to-be-new place.  After dealing with some of his friend's computer issues - which was also part of the visit - we headed over to Legend Brewing Company to get some dinner.  The food was rather tasty, even if the waitress seemed a bit perturbed the whole time.  She was efficient and took care of us, but her tableside manner definitely needs some fine tuning.

Oh, and note to BK - It seemed one requirement of all the waitresses in this place is that they wear short shirts so that their midriffs are exposed.

;)

I had a wonderful burger with bleu and swiss cheese.  I also ordered a side of the "pub fries" which turned out to be crispy, roasted and seasoned wedges of red potatoes.  Pretty tasty.  Not traditional "fries", but very good - and heathy (-ier) too!
