BK - RE: The Rain...  Could this be a case of "Don't Feed the Animals"?   The more you talk about the rain, the more it seems to rain.

Just a theory.  ;)

If they are also required to wear thongs, more than that will be exposed the minute they drop something.

With these record rains in LA, I'm glad I'm in Delaware.   :-\

For a moment I thought I read Haitian Tango.

Wiring continues.  I'm beginning to think he may not be through by seven, let alone six.  Juliana A. Hansen will be arriving at seven, so I'm hoping he IS finished.  If not, we'll have to wait until he is.

Well, I'm back from seeing Say Goodnight Gracie.  I thought it was great.  Frank Gorshin was very good.  Evidently, when they first started advertising their season last year, Jamie Farr was supposed to be doing it.  He didn't.  A couple of people who came to see it (I was at the door, ripping ticket stubs) were disappointed that Jamie Farr wasn't playing the part.  One couple said that if they had known that Jamie wasn't doing it, they wouldn't have gotten tickets.  I didn't know what to say.

Anyway, I thorougly enjoyed the show.  The place was almost sold out...it holds about 988 people.  I don't know what the final count was, but there probably weren't more than a dozen people who were younger than me.  Just about everyone else seemed to be much, much (only two muches, but still) older than me.  They were a great crowd, though.

After the show, I hied myself directly to Panda Express and ate "Gourmet Chinese Food" (a day late).  I like it.  I had the orange chicken (of course) and black pepper chicken, as well as half chow mein and half steamed rice.  I put some mandarin sauce on the black pepper chicken (too much celery) and steamed rice and the orange chicken was fairly fresh.  It was all quite good! ;D

Will this torrential sunshine never stop??
[/size]

The local weatherman has just reported that we can expect these blus skies over the Pacific Northwest to last, at least, another seven to ten days.  They even suggested getting out the sun block!

Oh, that's right!  The SNL special is on tonight.  I guess I know which show I'll be watching while I'm shredding away.

I forgot about this!  Thanks for mentioning it!  My housemate asked me to tape it for him and since today is his birthday, I'd better NOT FORGET!!  He's also not going to be here, tonight.  His family is taking him out to dinner and won't be back until late.

Bruce do you get a newspaper?  There should be an official report in it.

To date, since Sept. 1st Ashland has had 13.39” of rain.  The average is 16.50”.  Since Jan. 1st we have had 1.84” and the average is 6.16”.

Darn I thought the paper would show the high and low records.

One good thing about all that rain down your way BK, is that perhaps your area won't have those terrible fires this summer.

No rain here today, but not much sunshine...just kind of in-between, but still a nice day.

DR Danise - Do you have a tech guy at work you could consult with?  Or maybe just walk in tomorrow with your Pocket PC and WiFi card, and dangle them in front of his/her face/desk...  "Oh, do you need help getting that set up?"  *And if you're office also has a wireless network set-up, you should be able to access that.

OOHHH!!!!!

I think that may be the root of your problem...  Did you get a standard WiFi modem card?  Or did you get a Wireless Network Card for your Pocket PC?

When I was looking at a wireless card for my Pocket PC, I was looking for a wireless network card.  Yes, it's basically WiFi, but the protocols are different.  With a wireless network card, you can access a wireless network - WiFi, Linksys, Airport, etc.  And you don't need an ISP to do so.  Once you set it up on your Pocket PC, once you open IE, it should find the nearest access point.

*That's why I was sort of surprised you needed an ISP to access a WiFi access point.  Yes, Wifi is a wireless network, but there are other ways to access a wireless network.  When I travel with my laptop and a hotel offers wireless, high-speed access, I just have to tell my wireless card to recognize the signal in my room/lobby/etc.

**Of course, this also assumes that the wireless network you are accessing has Broadband capability.  Some wireless networks are office set-ups, just to communicate from computer to computer.  But most wireless "networks" setup in hotels have internet access capability - at least in my experience and travels.

Have you tried going into a Starbucks?  Most locations offer wireless internet access.  Barnes & Noble's have also started setting up "hot spots" in their stores.

And then there's the whole Bluetooth "solution" too, but that's another totally different - yet similar - story.

However...

I also noticed that while browsing the HP site that there are some models of iPaqs that simply don't work with wireless cards - WiFi or otherwise.  It's just a matter of the actual hardware in the iPaq model.

A couple of years ago, I had bought Steve a wireless card for his laptop - an HP, actually.  I installed the drivers, I updated the connection settings, but when I placed the card into the PCMCIA slot, nothing happened.  I tried this, I tried that.  After a few days, and many frustrating hours - Heck, the thing worked on my laptop! - we finally consulted the HP site.  We looked up his model number, and started reading through the spec sheet.  OH!!!   -And then after calling HP, our worst "fear" was confirmed:  His particular laptop model was not built to handle wireless cards even though the software was "accepted".  Whatever processor, dip-switch, etc., that was needed to properly configure a wireless connection was not a part of his laptop's configuration.

If you'd like, feel free to e-mail me your specifics - model of your iPaq, which WiFi card you bought, which version of Windows Pocket PC you are running, etc.  I'll see what I can do on my end.

*And, finally, if Internet Explorer was not already present on your iPaq, that may be the tip-off that your iPaq does not have remote internet/wireless capability.

Wiring continues.  Soon we will be completely wired, then the TV comes in.  If this doesn't happen by six-thirty, there is no way we'll be leaving for dinner at seven - more like seven-thirty or eight.

Metaphor: As erumpent as a pustule on the backside of a pachyderm.

 8) or :P, take your pick.

How about:  As erumpent as a pustule on the posterior of a pachyderm?

A little more illiteration. ;)

Wiring continues, but is almost finished.  The good new is that once the TV is in the house and on the stand, there are only a few wires that go directly into it.  Then he'll have to do all the TV set up stuff for me and show me how everything works.  I'm hoping since it's a Mitsubishi, that the remote is similar to my old Mitsubishi remote.  Surprisingly, it appears that I've had my old TV for almost four-and-a-half years.  I thought I'd only had it for three.

George, your card last night reminded me of this one I bought in Britain.  The caption reads:  "They were the perfect Valentine's couple - he danced like a tw#t and she looked like one."  I've never sent it because I can't bear to part with it.  It was one of those moments where I guffawed out loud when I picked it up.  I'm thinking of framing it.

That's hysterical!  I saved the picture and use the caption as the file name! ;)

Well, we've missed our second window of opportunity to get the new TV in and the old TV out in the brief little respites from the rain.  It is now pouring once again.  I HATE THIS RAIN!  SOMEONE TURN IT OFF!

ERUMPENT!
