Sort of flailing around for things to watch today. I began with the Thanksgiving episode of FRIENDS from Season 7.

This is the one in which we found out that Dr. Ross didn't know all 50 state names (neither did anyone else), Chandler hated dogs, and, the best thing in the episode, Joey's coining of the phrase "a moo point." Hilarious.

Next up was another episode of THE WILD WILD WEST, this one from the third disc in the set of the first season.

Much more a traditional western-like episode than the usual sci-fi tinged shows in the series, this one boasted some surprising guest stars:

Leslie Nielsen, Katherine Ross, John Drew Barrymore, Elsha Cook, Jr., and Jackie Joseph (who didn't even get billing).

Then I watched AFTER THE FUNERAL from the latest Hercule Poirot boxed set. If you've seen Margaret Rutherford's MURDER AT THE GALLOP, you know the basic mystery and the identity of the murderer. However, even if I hadn't already been tipped off by that previous film, one particular casting decision let the cat out of the bag very, very early. Sad to say, this is probably the most disappointing Poirot mystery that I've seen. (It was nice to get the backstories on the other suspects which were missing from MURDER AT THE GALLOP.)

And I finished this afternoon with the blooper reel for 1938 from the ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD 2-disc set. Called BREAKDOWNS OF 1938, we get to see folks like Kay Francis, Claudette Colbert, Humphrey Bogart, Bette Davis, Hugh Herbert, Pat O'Brien, and other luminaries flub and bungle through some of their 1938 films.

I probably wouldn't have pulled this out except I was reading reviews of the Warners Tough Guy boxed set that's coming out next week, and special features on several of those DVDs were BREAKDOWN blooper reels from 1936, 1937, and 1939. It was mentioned in the review that the 1938 reel was in the ROBIN HOOD set, and I'd never watched it before. There are outtakes specifically from Robin Hood on the disc, and I'll watch those when I go back downstairs.

I've spent the day sorting through 18 days' worth of mail and packages.  I have a bit of reading this week.

The meeting about the Singing Nun is set for Saturday, and I've made a couple of phone calls about some other work.  There are tornado warnings outside the city, and they keep interrupting the television with warnings.  I hope whatever storms we are getting cut down the humidity.

I loved WILL IN THE WRLD, and I got today a book about Christopher Marlowe, THE RECKONING.  It will be my subway/bus reading for the next few months.

Just finishing my dinner hour before I have to go set up the Auditorium for my song & dance (not really!) at 5:30.

The new phone number for my library is 463-BOOK(2665), which is also 463-COOL.  Doesn't take much to entertain us in times of techno-stress!

DR Elmore - that's what roared through here last night.  Don't count on it eliminating the humidity, sorry.

Sorry to hear about your room mate woes, DR Elmore.

But I'm glad that DR Cillaliz has her AC.  Humm, just what is AC?  Someday I'll have a house that has that.  :)

Something silly just occured to me.

Do soap actors ever get written out of shows because the writers run out of ideas for stories for their characters?

Mr. Ashford could well have been given the axe not for anything he has or hasn't done, but because the writers have run out of things to say about his character.

Could happen.

In any case, it seems to me that he'll be able to find other work, and quickly.

It could but in the case of Matt, I doubt that. IN the opinion of many of the fans, Matt was let go due to Missy, his co-star leaving.  They (TPTB) cannot see Jack as a stand alone character and the potential it provides.

However the appreciation of Matt's talents will never waiver. The fans admire him far too much to let that falter.

There have been cases of it but it boils down to TPTB like the actor or the character or if they have a personal bone against them.

In Matt's case he has been fired three times by DAys and the last time they brought him back they continually had his character dying and then backburnered. GRanted the writer they had for a bit was less than competent for it was the same individual who writes Passion and he apparently did not like Matt.

Back from a very nice and productive lunch meeting.  And now - my local DVD store just got in early copies of the new Special Edition of Some Like It Hot and the Jayne Mansfield Collection (The Girl Can't Help It, Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter, and The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw) - isn't that FABOOOOOO?

Geico is supposed to replace my 2005 Hyundai, but with what they want to give me I couldn't even afford a Tonka truck!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR CILLALIZ

The best of Health vibes, compassionate vibes, homecoming vibes and money rolling in vibes to all those in need.

For those interested - a person has been charged with the murder of a couple of days ago. (Not my young friend!).  I'm hoping to be here more often in the next week - it's just been a demanding time and the people I care about have needed support.
