Thanks Donna. Kay wrote the liner notes for a great early Andy Williams LP, ANDY WILLIAMS SINGS STEVE ALLEN, which I have recommended on here before.

Mention of Kay also makes me lament the passing of the Plaza Hotel. I walked by there the other day; construction equipment abounds.

Hello everybody. My favorite potatoes come in chip form.

We started learning about dinosaurs yesterday in preschool. We also learned about the letter A. I can't wait to see what comes next.

My ex-partner Frank was thoroughly lost at the end of THE PRESTIGE, too. But then, about 2/3 of the way through, he left to go to the concession stand, so part of his confusion was understandable. Not the kind of movie you can keep up with if you miss ten minutes of it in the middle.

I watched another CSI: NY episode from the DVD set. This one had to do with the murder of a female roller derby star. I honestly had no idea roller derby was still in existence.

I finished TARZAN TRIUMPHS. Pretty amazing piece of Hollywood war rallying having Tarzan declaring war on Nazis who were invading and raping the land he holds so dear. And when Boy shoots a Nazi who's aiming at Tarzan, Tarzan beams with pride. Wow!

Next, I watched CAREFREE. I had forgotten that much of GInger's wardrobe is kind of ugly. I'm surprised she okayed these clothes knowing how particular she was about what she wore on the screen. I did like the "Change Partners" dress but not much else that she wore.

The transfer looks worlds better than the one for ROBERTA, but still not the silky black and white images of 1940s films.

Having watched black and white/mono sound movies for much of the day, I decided I wanted some color, widescreen, and surround sound, so I put on S.W.A.T. No great shakes as a film, but a kind of guilty pleasure I enjoy revisting from time to time, and it was a nice change of pace from the day's other movies.

I have TARZAN'S DESERT ADVENTURE cued up to watch tomorrow afternoon.

I'm scheduled to help my friend with his HDTV installation at 4 p.m. so I should be able to fit that movie in along with another CSI: NY episode or two.

Matt H - The Liza episode was repeated tonight at 9 pm EST. I have problems with the episode as a whole, as i often do when L&O takes a high profile case and tugs at it in a most distortive way, but Liza Minnelli was really very good. (But then I also enjoyed her in VICTOR/VICTORIA, actually attended her Christmas Spectacular at Town Hall a few years back, and think "The Money Tree" from THE ACT is one of the most riveting numbers I've ever seen on a stage.)

Michael Feinstein, whatever one may think of him, is not a record producer - he can take the credit all he likes, but he simply does not have the ears and it's all about the ears, not to mention other things, like performance. Liza needs new blood, not some fawning fellow who loves her mother.

Glad you enjoyed her. I had no idea NBC was repeating it so quickly.

Liza did a benefit here in 1985 or 86 that was basically her LIZA IN LONDON show, and I was totally blown away by her in person. Tremendous energy, charisma, and give-it-her-all kind of performance skills.

I saw her in THE RINK, too, and thought she was wonderful (but it was really Chita's show).

Mishearing lyrics runs in my family. My father heard me playing the album for THE ACT when she sings about "a granite lake and a cotton moon" and he asked is she saying Kakem-oon (a yiddish expression).

The Christmas Spectacular (I mean, David Gest presents the Liza Minnelli Christmas Spectacular) was a mixed bag. But she seemed to be able to deliver a socko performance whenever the songwriters (such as Kander and Ebb and a couple of others I can't remember, but she did introduce them in the audience) for the particular song happened to be there, and that was thrilling. Rumors of lip synching on certain numbers circulated for a few weeks afterwards, but there was no evidence of it.

Don't know if I mentioned it earlier, but I used the Roomba today for the first time. What a cool thing! I have no idea how it decides the pattern it cleans in, but it seems to get everywhere at some point. The girls were as fascinated with it as I was. They followed it a little, then ran, then watched from up on the bed or a dresser.
