In case anyone might have missed my post from yesterday.

I have a favor:

For anyone who bought the new King and I, can you go to 110:11 into the film (Shall We Dance) have the "Singalong Subtitles" on and tell me if your DVD jumps around. It seems to only happen when the "Singalong Subtitles" are visible. No other subtitles and it doesn't matter what audio track you are listening to.

Good morning, all! I have another day filled with activity, a few hours i Toyland, a trip to sew up my IRS situation (oy! don't ask), an afternoon with The Brain, and an evening seeing my friend Douglas Carter Beane'snew comedy THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED. Three weeks from today, I fly to Los Angeles to work on The Brain!

Yesterday, I was hardly online: I finished up the debris from my week's absence: laundry, throwing out cartons and junk from a week's worth of mail, trying to figure out this new DVD player and its remote control, some revisions on the BABES IN TOYLAND reports initiated by an eBay purchase of pages from several 1905 Appleton, Wisconsin, issues of the Appleton Century newspaper dealing with the 2nd-class tour (equivalent to a bus & truck tour). All I haven't done is confront the pile of magazines and catalogs. I even got some work in on The Brain!

DR MattH, re Jack Soo: I don't think he's singing flat; he seems more to be an actor with little singing technique and a voice not particularly pretty. He doesn't seem to be aware of how to focus a tone at times, but it's so right for the character he plays. I think he's super and I love what he does much more than the slicker singing of Larry Blyden on the OBC.

TOD: Who's got time for anything but the VCR?

I did take the new CD of WHITE CHRISTMAS to Toyland yesterday, and I love it. Larry Blank makes me want to kill him from jealousy, his work is so goof. DR MBarnum, your new friend Brian D'Arcy James is quite wonderful as well.

I've been looking for White Christmas. I haven't come across it yet.

I'm listening to Accu Radio right now and they are playing Show Off from Drowsy Chaperone.

I had a very nice time last night at our 50th Anniversary celebration. I'm sure a nice time will also be had on December 12th when we have our 50th Anniversary Holiday Party. This year, because it's the 50th Anniversary, we get to bring a spouse or a guest so Anthony will get to see me receive my 15th Anniversary Clock.

DVD - From the Terrace, nice adaptation of the John O'Hara book with a fine Elmer Bernstein score and some nice performances. The photography and costumes are terrific as well. Recommended for lovers of high class SOAP.

VCR: SPARTACUS

CD: A present from DRMBARNUM Japanese girl singers with songs from the '60's. Yes, I can now hear "Where the Boys Are" and "Pineapple Princess" in Japanese, with phonetic versions of "Lipstick on your Collar" and "Hey, Paula" and many many more. Domo arigato.

TOD...

DVR - last Wednesday's Lost, since I was so out of it that night. We'll probably watch it on Saturday.

DVD - I haven't sat down to watch Cars yet, other than the first ten minutes or so. The arrogance of lead car Lightning McQueen is a turn-off, though.

And der Brucer bought a whole stack of DVDs for $3 each, stuff from cable television I think.

BOOKS - I'm hoping to savor a couple of stories from a Dirty Book real soon.

And I've been taking an interesting book called The Omnivore's Dilemma with me to work, propping it up next to my register and getting lots of questions as to what it's about. Well, it's about food chains, about where our food really comes from. For example, much of the processed food we eat can trace it's roots back to corn. (Some of the customers get really interested at this point, and others start to glaze over like the doughnuts our bakery sells. But this book has been getting more comments than any other since I was reading New York City Food, but that one had pictures.)
