to colonize Mars half a century later. Now the descendants of the first colonists are on their way back to Earth. Led by their unbelievably wicked Regulator Rogul and his unbelievably even more unbelievably wicked disciple Jens Maul, they are up to no good. In fact, the Martians are planning to subjugate the blue planet to the red one.

With a huge array of spaceships, a conquest of Earth
seems imminent. And only the crazy (and very few) crew
of Dreamship Surprise can ‘help’ Captain Kork, engineer
Shrotty and first officer Mr. Spuck. But instead of fighting
intergalactic crime, they’re busy with their choreography
for the upcoming ‘Miss Waikiki Pageant’. With the help of
the space cowboy and taxi pilot Rock (hunky Til Schweiger) they set out to save the earth from invasion and quite possibly from themselves.

Just spent several hundred on the DDD sale, including the new Brando box set. Is MOTB the roadshow version, with the "prequel" (20 years after) and sequel, or the usual edited version?

TOD: have also been going crazy with CDs lately, for some reason. Listening to Salvador's first CD (the Salsa Christian band), which isn't quite as good as their second, but is still pretty good). DVD--we've been watching a bunch of the old Ustinov Poirots.

No valid excuses for procrastinating, but finally getting around to enjoying HOW TO WRITE A DIRTY BOOK etc. Loving what I'm reading so far, especially one of my favorite bits of fiction in a long time entitled "Your Worst Nightmare," and the lengths of the stories are perfect for my at-times-attention-deficit-addled brain.

I finished watching the special features on THE KING AND I DVD. There was one featurette on the restoration of the film from Cinemascope 55 elemnts. Not really understanding the difference between regular CInemascope and CInemascope 55, I quite enjoyed this little featurette. Might have been nice to hire a narrator with a bit more animation in his voice. The info, however, was worthwhile.

DRs Jed and Ann no longer live alone, have more secure ongoing employment and "other interests". They have not left HHW. As Jed says, "I always return". I think Jed also has a new interest in PC games - no not politcally correct! Not even their neighbour sees his cyber kids often.

DR Michael Shayne:

I did go back to disc 1 in THE KING AND I set and played "Shall We Dance" with the singalong activated. Began fine but at the point where you indicated, it did indeed start jumping around and sputtering. Doesn't happen if you're just watching the film, but with that supplement turned on, my Sony player couldn't handle it. I didn't try it in any other players I have here, but I suspect it would have trouble in all of them.

Knowing that the Deep Discount sale is going on, I put my SOUND OF MUSIC old DVD in the upconversion player once again to decide if I wanted to spend the few bucks on getting the newer issue of the film. I watched about 15 minutes of the movie, and I decided that the copy I have is just fine. Supposedly the edge enhancement is very bothersome for people who have front projection systems that throw the image on a 100" screen, but on my TV, I don't notice the edge enhancement, and it plays just fine. So no upgrade there.

Next, I watched SMALLVILLE, an excellent episode with some real drama among the various characters.

I think adding The Green Arrow to the show this season has been a real shot in the arm for the whole show. There's more at stake for Clark now, and there's a superhero who can give him some things to think about. Clark can reciprocate in the morals department for Green Arrow/Oliver, too.

I finally finished UNDERCURRENT. It's been on the DVR long enough, and I only had about 25 minutes of it left, so I went ahead and finished it.

The print looked so good that I suspect Warners will release this on DVD next year in either a Hepburn or Taylor boxed set.

MY NAME IS EARL was up next, and it was laugh out loud funny as we learned Crab Man/Darnell was actually in witness protection which didn't sit well with wife Joy. Very entertaining.

One of the Dunder Mifflin branch offices is closing, and this led to all sorts of funny and poignant confessions from various employees about their potential fates. And Michael, of course, has to try to save his branch in a very amusing mock confrontation with Dwight subbing for the president of the company. Loved the show. Next week - Jim and Pam reunite. Of course, there's another woman in Jim's life now which will put Pam on the outside looking in. SHould be very interesting during the rest of the season.

I just read that Fox has pulled JUSTICE from its schedule immediately and the show is in effect canceled. HOUSE reruns will play in the time slot through November.

For those who watch, WHAT ABOUT BRIAN on ABC has been given a full season order.
