My, what a lovely day it's been! The band rehearsal was a lot of fun and I like the players quite a bit. Our BK was in fine fettle all day, and I enjoyed meeting the cast, especially Kevin Spirtas, whom I met earlier in the year, and Alet, whom I hadn't seen since we recorded "Sondheim At The Movies." My new best friend, Merrill, is delightful, and I think this week will be productive and fuin for one and all.

DR JRand56, I don't know the address of Lucy's house; was it on North Ogden Drive?

DR Francois, I love Gavin Creel! I thought he was one of the few good things in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, and after working on the recording of "Fine & Dandy" with him, I think his voice is one of the most beautiful instruments in the theatre. I've been recommending him to people who produce pops orchestra Broadway nights, and I wish him a huge success in London.

Back from tech, which went very fast and very well, save for two disgusting operator errors that caused said operator to lost twenty-five light cues TWICE. He finally realized he hadn't put the board in auto save mode and he hadn't been saving. Not so good. But, we got the cast out at six, we don't have to work tomorrow, and he's staying tonight and rewriting all the cues that got lost. It wasn't perfect, of course, but I gave him my notes about what I needed fixed and now he'll just add and subtract from what we have. I'm hoping for a fairly smooth run-through Monday night - fingers crossed.

More about everything later, including the fun of hearing elmore's charts for the first time.

I watched the last CSI: MIAMI episode on disc 4 in the set. It involved the shooting of two brothers in an abandoned hotel in Miami. The story actually involved money laundering and a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde who were disgusting and ridiculous. Parts of the episode were fine, but all the parts with the couple were absurd making for one of the weaker episodes of the fourth season.

Next, I did put the special edition remaster of THE GREAT ESCAPE in and watched the entire film (almost three hours). Much of it looks quite wonderful with good color and sharp as can be. SOme shots, though, look faded, overly processed, or soft. Very jarring when those intrude in what looks like a pristine transfer for about 75% of the running time. Sound has been remastered, too, into a Dolby 5.1 track. OK, nothing extraordinary, but then, I suspect the film played its run with a mono soundtrack.

Since Julie Andrews was one of our topics of the day, I put in THE SOUND OF MUSIC and watched about an hour of selected scenes. Of course, it's easy to get pulled into the film and want to just let it run. I'm at the festival scene now, and tomorrow, I'll probably just watch the rest of it.

I didn't remember how thundering the bass was during the wedding sequence. That organ's bass pedals had my windows rattling.

Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite film and stage performances by Julie Andrews, Judy Holliday, and Ethel Merman?

That's Life and Duet For One. The latter she is amazing in and she should have been nominated that year instead of Jane Fonda for The Morning After. I have only seen Julie in Putting it Together and Victor/Victoia. As musch as I was disappinted with V/V I ould have to say it was my favorite of the two. She did not have a lot to do in PIT

Judy: I have been partial to It Could Happen to You. Never saw Judy on stage.

Ethel is a little more problamatic. I don't think she was a great film performer. I have only seen her in There 's No Business Like Show Busines. It's a Mad (4) World, The Art of Love and Airplane. None of them was a favorite of mine. Never saw her on stage.

I know she did a TV version of Annie Get Your Gun. I hope it will once again see the light of day.

I did see a good movie last night. I thoroughly enjoyed "The Queen". Very well done. Helen Mirren did an excellent job.

Funny Matt, Ihave never noticed that abotu the bass. I thought it was fine.

The Ultimate Superman Collection. I have seen
Superman II The Donner Cut, watch various documentaries and the 30 minutes or so of the cut material from Superman 4. They were laughable bad and I cannot understand why anyone would have wanted them restored for this collection.
