Actually, the only option we would have had would have been a flight which would have connected in Chicago and gotten us to L.A. at 1 in the morning L.A. time (of course, 4 in the morning Eastern time) and would have necessitated a jaunt in rush hour to LaGuardia airport from Newark.  And we would just wouldn't have made it through the next day that way.

It amazes me that they could not find you a flight from NYC. NYC, for heaven's sake! There must be hundreds of flights every day out of there!

Incredibly, as Skip is pointing out to someone on the phone, "our" flight was just about the only flight that took off on time.

MBarnum, I think Kerry and MusicGuy were flying over today; I will begin my drive when I wake up in the morning. Hopefully early. But not too early.

I saw a little news clip on TV yesterday or the day before saying the Delta Airlines is late 100% of the time!  Every single flight that they fly is late to arrive!  What good is that??  You'd think that all they have to do is adjust their arrival estimates and call it good!

I flew Delta in October -- no problems going. The reason we were late coming back was storms in the Atlanta area -- everything was late. I thought Delta was quite comfortable. But then I usually am herded on Southwest, when I have to fly.

DR FJL and DP Skip, so very sorry about your travel woes.  I am also one of those people who is at the airport 2 hours early.  With all the overbooking now, I also take the day after I travel off so I can get bumped if necessary.

Did they refund your travel or give you a voucher?

I just watched Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (my favorite dentist cartoon) and now it's Frosty the Snowman.  I still love both of these shows

I'm like Bruce.  I'd rather get to the airport way early and just take a book with me once I'm through security.  Going out of London the other day, we had to be out of our flat by eleven and our flight didn't leave till 4:30.  So even after the cab ride to Heathrow, we had four and half hours to kill.  Fortunately, we were travelling business class, so no lines (fast-track check-in)and we could wait in the VIP lounge, but the nice thing about Heathrow is that once inside security, there's a vertible mall of shops from book stores to Harrods that one could browse before going to the lounge.

Once at Chicago, we had to go through customs (first port of call) and then re-check our luggage and go through security again for any connecting flights, but this also wasn't a hassle as I had left two hours time between flights and we had plenty of time to spare before our Cincinnati connection at 9:00pm.  But that somehow didn't stop the flight from inexplicably being late and us not leaving until 10:40.  No explanation was ever given as to why the plane was an hour and forty minutes late, however.

Well, I went to this workman's comp clinic & was there over 2 hours. So rather than drive down tonight & not get enough sleep at my aunt's house, I'm going to leave butt-crack-of-dawn early & go to the Valley/breakfast first.

My company was a little late arriving, but I used the time to wrap Christmas presents and now find I am very far along in that little endeavor. One of my least favorite things to do, so I'm glad I've got a bunch of them already taken care of.

Cilla - They did agree to a refund even though there was technically only a legal requirement to give a credit towards future flights (less a penalty), given that it was officially nonrefundable.

Fred and Skip, I'm so sorry about the flight problems and that your trip was ruined. Bad things sometimes happen to nice people.

Gregg and I went to a small nearby restaurant where I had delciious spaghetti. Even though I made it for myself a few days ago, I was starving tonight and ate way too much.

Well that can't compensate for missing the world premiere of THE BRAIN, but at least it's something...

We were planning on watching SUPERMAN RETURNS when we got back, but while at dinner, the subject of LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA came up, and Gregg commented that we should have gone to it two summers ago instead of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG. I agreed and said that at least I got to see the show on PBS. Gregg mentioned that he had missed that program and didn't tape it, so when we got back, we watched the DVD I burned of that telecast. He really enjoyed it, and I certainly didn't mind seeing it again.

Today I paid the deposit on the Orpheum trip to the Tonys.  It includes 4 nights in NYC, so I'll have lots of time to see HHW friends.
