OLDER THAN SPRINGTIME
« on: December 19, 2006, 12:08:29 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were older than springtime, and now it is time for you to post until the older than springtime cows come home.

Topic of the Day:  Fortunately, I don't think that I've ever been in a situation that was so embarrasingly embarrasing that I "just wanted to run and hide"...yet. ::)

good morning! It's quiet round here today. I'm off to work, our office annual lunch, the chiropractor and then home to prepare for a couple days of really nasty weather.

Good morning, all!  I've been bounced off this site for "too many connections" since 7 AM, and after nearly 90 minutes, I am in.  Good to see our DR DanTheMan back! Long may he be with us,

I'm sorry to hear about the new synth player, but I'm glad to hear everything is now on tape.  I look forward to what becomes of the cast album.  I must say, though, I can imagine my Dear Friend BK sitting there saying to Vinnie and DR Adriana "we're in the toilet!" over and over, and I'm glad I missed it!

I hope Wednesday's session proceeds much more smoothly.  I miss everyone involved with The Brain quite a lot.

I'm currently sitting here waiting for a call from my Dad.  The Macbeths have got him into a state which burns my ass; the man's not got long to live and the Macbeths continue to work him into agita he needs no more than I need to see Bernadette Peters ever again in a Merman role.  Oy!

After that, a trip to Fed Ex and Toyland, where I will try to ascertain if we still have work after Dec. 31.  Any and all vibes are welcome!

Was there a TOD I forgot?

The session sounds interesting.  I used to wonder why musicians built recording studios in their homes once they became rich and famous.....until I found out that there studio time (expensive) was charged against their royalties....learned that by reading Beach Boy Brian Wilson's book.

Good vibes for the VOCAL SESSION tonight.

As Tony Randall said once when he was a guest panel member on WHAT'S MY LINE and moderator John Daly held up a copy of an LP called "Tony Randall - Vo-vo-dee-oh-doe" (shades of Cindy Williams) and said: "Tony, you have a new record album out now."

And Tony replied:  "Yes, John, it's the record the world is waiting for."  I'm not sure he was kidding.

It seems to me when company was coming in those old movies, the hostess always told Hattie McDaniel to "set an extrapolate."

I'm heading out.  The Macbeths are killing my Dad - as I just learned from a phone call - and I refuse to get into the battle from a distance of 500 miles.  I cannot believe that my brother, knowing his father hasn't much longer to live, is giving him such a difficult time about things.  There's more I cannot go into, but it all deals with inheritance.  I have to say I am not happy with the turn of events in Ohio this morning, and I worry about my dad.

Back later.

Oh, yes, the TOD:  the first 30 years of my life was a series of public embarassments I refuse to relive or divulge.  I'm glad I survived them.  As for the ones after, I'm not drudging them up for anyone; you'll have to wait for the memoirs.

Very sorry to read of your problems with relatives, DR Elmore. I do NOT understand folks who pull this stuff while parents are alive to know what's happening. The Macbeths must be completely conscience-free.

I have the second disc in the MEDIUM set to get to today, and I also recorded THE TWO MRS. CARROLLS off TCM last night (early this morning actually) which I'll also be watching today.

Everything on TV tonight of interest to me is either missing (VERONICA MARS) or in reruns which i have no interest in seeing again, so apart from CARROLLS and RED-HEADED WOMAN (which I recorded last week), looks like this will be a totally DVD day.

My most embarrassing experience:

I've mentioned my uncle on this forum many times. This was my father's brother who had no children and who treated my brother and me as his children. Every Saturday, he would pile us and any of our friends that we wanted into his car and take us to Charlotte (about 40 miles away). We would go to the area's first enclosed mall (Charlottetown Mall), shop, and eat at the S&W cafeteria. This was a Saturday ritual that went on for at least ten years.

One afternoon when I was twelve or so, we were browsing through the school supplies in the drug store in the mall. I was picking up various pens and colored pencils (loved that stuff when I was a kid) but didn't want to buy anything with the dollar he always gave us on these weekly trips. (I would save them up weekly to buy cast albums.)

The store manager thought he saw me and my cousin Sonny pocket some items and leave the store without paying. So, once we got out of the store, he accosted us and demanded that we empty our pockets. I really didn't know what shoplifting was and had never stolen anything in my life, but I turned six shades of red to be stopped by this angry man and be ordered to empty my pockets. Both of us complied and, of course, there was nothing there belonging to the store. The manager, instead of apologizing, lectured us harshly about the evils of stealing and then stormed back into the store.

I can't tell you how upset I was! I was crying and shaking (my uncle wasn't with us; he was in another part of the mall). Anyway, when he finally joined us back at the car, he asked and asked what the matter was, but neither of us would talk. FInally, about 1/3 of the way home, I couldn't hold it in any longer and told him what had happened. He turned the car around then and there and drove back to the mall and went to the store where he proceeded to give the manager a piece of his mind and also demand to talk to someone higher up. Phone calls were made, but that was the last we spoke of it that night.

The next weekend, the manager was no longer at that store. My uncle told us on the way home that he had been fired for his actions.
