Three years ago on January 20th (actually a Tuesday), I had just received the galley for Kritzer Time! Apparently I was in shock as they'd left off five pages of the prologue - other than that, it was a fairly good galley. That was before I began having Grant Geissman design the books.

That's the worst, when you've had a bad day and you think, well, I'll just splurge and eat a good meal, then the meal is unsatisfactory. If one can't be comforted by food, then it just wasn't meant to be a good day.

Favorite French films - so many, where do I begin? The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Young Girls of Rochefort, The Soft Skin, That Man From Rio, almost all of Patrice Leconte's films, almost all of Jean Pierre Melville, L'Appartement, Diabolique, The Red Balloon, Eyes Without A Face, Sundays and Cybele, Judex, and many others I'm sure will come to me. Then, I was going to post this last night, but as I was previewing it and literally just seconds before I finally clicked "Post," BK closed the day and I was locked out. Anyway, here is what I was going to write:

I saw "Children of Men" tonight [last night, now] and have been home for a couple of hours. It was...interesting. Has anyone else seen this? It's about the world of 2027 where no babies have been born since 2009 or so (I think it was a flu pandemic, but they never say why no one is able to conceive after that, unless I missed something) and all illegal immigrants in England (where the movie is set) are rounded up and sent away...or killed. Anyway, Clive Owen gets contacted by his ex-wife, played by Julianne Moore. She wants him to ask his cousin (someone in the government) to get papers to get a girl out of the country and she'll pay Clive £5,000 (he really can use the money). He gets two sets of papers (he's going to escort her, for some reason) and it turns out that the girl is pregnant. The first pregnancy in the entire world in 18 years! They have to get her to some people who are part of a group called The Human Project and I guess that they will protect her. And that's the movie. He just has to get her to the ocean where she'll be picked up. Along the way, everyone fights, the world is in chaos, they are helped and hindered by everyone, she has the baby and a lot of people die. Then she gets to the water with Clive's help and that's the end of the movie. It was very well done. I like Clive Owen and the visuals were stunning, but to me it seems like it should've been part of a bigger story, but wasn't.

OfTen (Ofen, like the brits!)

There's one that I always forget the name of, but someone here can help I'm sure. UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG always reminds me of it because it ends with a bunch of homeless people flying off into the sky on umbrellas and broomsticks singing all the while.

Black and white French film. The plot involves homeless and poor people who set up a kind of utopian society on this little section of land, and the city drives them out. Until they fly away singing a song about socialism.

I did enjoy much of it. Yes, at times she gets off on like seven tangents, and you think, "Is she ever going to make it back to the story of the party at Drew Barrymore's house?" but she always does. I appreciate someone like that who is banned from most major talk shows!

I know the film and it just won't come! It reminds me of Miracle in Milan, but that's Eyetalian and not a musical. Look at the plot of that one.
