For what my opinion's worth (and I'll beat all of you jokesters to the punch -- it ain't worth much), I really appreciate Jon Brion's score for Magnolia.  Say what you will about the film, I love it, and I certainly have to include the score in the reasons why.

Pogue, you'll be happy to know that on 2/5 a two-cd set is being issued of Sodom and Gomorrah by Rozsa - first time ever from the original session masters in what is touted to be wonderful stereo.  I've ordered mine.

I love film music.

Most played original soundtrack: Probably A Patch Of Blue - don't know why, but when I bought the LP it was never off the turntable for more than a day.

Of the foreigners, I love Mr. Satoh's score to Kurosawa's High and Low.

As a kid, my most wanted unreleased soundtrack was: North By Northwest.  When it finally came out, first in a quite bad new (at the time) digital recording, and then, mercifully, in the original soundtrack, it was a day for rejoicing.

I'd like to add my complete endorsement of BK's assessment of "The Accidental Tourist" by John Williams.

Many film music fans are baffled by the score on CD....they love it in the film, but then complain about it being too "one-note" as a separate listen.

Well, beyond the argument about the function of a score being to complement the film, which this score assuredly does, Williams has given us a great "monothematic" score...with variations upon a simple theme, that superbly enhance the drama on the screen.  It's one of the most glorious scores of the 1980s, IMO.

And one other Williams score I failed to remember on the "short" list was "The Witches of Eastwick" -- a truly delightful score!

Nino Rota's score for "Romeo and Juliet"  (the 1968 version) is to die for -- I love it, love it, love it.  It's theme song "What Is A Youth" -- ahhhhh!

I always preferred his scores to TAMING OF THE SHREW and JULIET OF THE SPIRITS.

Interestingly, The Accidental Tourist may be my most played film music CD.

For Mr. Rota, it's probably The White Sheik, La Dolce Vita, La Strada, and 8 1/2.

Some of my other favorite scores -

Scarface -- Giorgio Moroder
Goldeneye -- Eric Serra
Edward Scissorhands -- Danny Elfman
Lawrence of Arabia & Doctor Zhivago -- Maurice Jarre
Silence of the Lambs & the Lord of the Rings trilogy -- Howard Shore
All of Ennio Morricone's stuff (how pleased I was to see he's getting an Honorary Oscar)

...and many, many others that have already been listed here -- but those are some of my favorites

Oh, song: A Second Chance from Two For The Seesaw and also You're Gonna Hear From Me from Daisy Clover - both by Mr. Previn.  And lest we forget - Mr. Previn's Valley Of The Dolls song.

And because Mr. Nick Redman can never figure out how to post here - I'll include on his behalf Mr. Jerry Fielding's The Wild Bunch.

In keeping with today's topic, Ennio Morricone  is getting an honorary award.

The guy I'm working with today is going up to NY next week to see the Ennio Morricone concert at Radio City Music Hall. I'm quite jealous!

I'm typing and/or thinking too fast again -- "will" agree, not "with" agree -- geeesh!  It's a sign that I need to stop and get cracking (another saying for yesterday's topic).  Over and out!
