"Magnolia" is littered with references to "Exodus". 8:2 is particularly significant - the prologue has 3 references.  It is certainly a film with considerable depth.  a great film for discussion purposes.

I had more difficulty with a few of the scenes in "Mulholland Drive" - a film which I think is great also.

I know about the Biblical references. As I said it just wasn't my cup of tea.  I do know many who enjoyed it...not sure enjoy is the right word, maybe appreciated it is better.  For what it's worth, I didn't like Crash much either.  But, that's just me

Not sure what i think of it yet.

Did anybody go to the website (on the business card Claire's father gave mohinder)?

It has a phone number. I wonder what happens if you call.

Maybe you get put on hold and get to listen to muzak.   ::)

DR George - I actually almost played the run of the show when it was at NYMF two years ago.  They had lost their MD/piano player, and I got the call.  However, I wasn't able to take the gig due to scheduling.

The website at the time, had almost all of the song demos on it, so I downloaded them.  It's a good listen.  Sort of like pop-Sondheim with a touch of Jason Robert Brown to my ears.

Thanks for the info. :) I'm almost at a point where I can just sit and listen as I work...I've had to get up too much to even want to get started.

DR RonP, if you call that HEROES number and press #3 it gives you a code to enter on the site.  The code is mt36.

You enter it on the primatech site.

Have you (or has anyone) signed up??  You have to put in your name, address, phone number, etc., and then "respond to each situation with the selection that most closely matches what your own personal
response would be."

OVERRATED FILMS:

Perhaps THE MOST OVERRATED film I've ever seen -- "Lost in Translation."

I got rid of the DVD as soon as possible, lest it contaminate the rest of my collection.

NEVER have I been so grossly misled by rave reviews.

This year, "Little Miss Sunshine" is a cute little film.  But that's just it.  CUTE.  Not great.  Not, IMO, Oscar-worthy in any sense, outside of performance or screenplay.

Certainly not for film or directing ... or any aesthetic technicals.

Couple of songs mentioned by DRs that should have been on my list:

Love Is A Many Splendored Thing - fine score for the film as well.

I guess that my problem with DREAMGIRLS has always been that for a musical with MUSIC about a specific time - a LOT of its music doesn't reflect that....I am going to see it Thursday night, so I may have something different to say after seeing the movie.   I did like the soundtrack.

I have been watching some random Dance Recital videos on YOUTUBE.

I really loved having a studio and teaching the kids - did it for seven years.  I don't miss it until I see the kids dance and having such a good time.

Oh my, that brings back memories of sitting through hours and hours and hours of dance recital to see my niece who was usually in 3 or 4 dances spread throughout the recital so we could never leave early!  Maybe if they had more comfortable chairs....I enjoyed it, actually, it just got too long

Although for some odd reason I liked the sequel!

If you hated SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, what would possess you to watch the sequel?

Re: last night's HEROES.
...Btw, is "are you on the list" the new "save the cheerleader, save the world"??
Yes, but it sounds too much to me like something a maitre 'd would say.  (Yeah, like he earns enough to be on any list himself.)

Try imagining a maitre 'd saying "Save the cheerleader, save the world."  Worth a giggle.

Ah yes the dance recitals were VERY long.  We usually divided ours up into two nights in a smaller venue so that nobody had to sit for four hours!

I liked CAPRICE...only saw it on TV.  But I thought Doris Day's wardrobe was too young for her and just made her look ridiculous.  And of course by then she was doing a lot of WIG acting.  Thank goodness she was more herself during the series....

Nice, how the polka-dots on her dress are the same size as her glasses frames!

Good Afternoon!

Well... As I was getting ready to leave, the property manager called to ask if I was home, and if she could send over someone to look at the my non-working radiator.  And since I would like some radiant heat in my room...  "I'll send him over now."  Well... about 20 minutes later... the handy-man showed up, and he's been running back and forth between my room and the basement of the building checking on things ever since.

Did you ask him if he had ever seen Elmore's video about the guy who lets the handyman come in and look at his pipes?
