Good morning, all!  Where the hell is the promised snow?

I slept badly with puzzling dreams, one about my dad, which I am hoping is not a preminition.  I have vague memories of another involving Ted Chapin of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, a film based on Meyerbeer's opera LES HUGUENOTS, and a train station in Paris.  It was quite frustrating.

So, today my agenda includes the NYPL, laundry, and God alone knows what else.  I will haul the snowshoes, extra supplies and blankets back into storage.

Happiest of birthdays to DR Ben, whose Grant Guides arrived earlier in the week and will soon be part of our library collection.

Media report:

CD(car) - audiobook:  Lauren (The Devil Wears Prada) Weisberger's Everyone Worth Knowing, narrated by Stina Nielsen.  I gave up on Thirteen Moons after 3 discs because it was too similar to the audiobook I'd just finished, On Agate Hill.  Also, I agreed with the reviewer in the Washington Post who said that it's longer and even more boring than Cold Mountain.

DVD - Friends and Family, Mad Hot Ballroom

Well DR EDISAURUS - I like most of the Adult Swim original programming on CN....but ATHF ain't one of them.  I have tried to watch it, but I cannot understand ONE WORD that MeatWad says...NOT ONE WORD....I have tried several times, watched again last night to be sure...so I don't watch it.

When we recorded Tony Shalhoub's Sacco VO, we took over one of the writer's offices and Greg turned it into a recording studio. He had worked on ATHF and had a Meatwad pinata on his shelf! I bet a lot of people would like to bust that up. (He assured me it wasn't full of meat.)

I can undersand Meatwad, but then again, I live in the South, where everyone slurs their words...

I don't have it, so no problem.

Bruce has started a trend:

ASO Family Concert: February 4, 2007 1:30pm &   3:30pm
"Orchestra from Planet   X"with special guest artists The Magic Circle Mime Company !

Don Miller: Overture to Planet X
Don Gillis: Symphony X -1st mvt. - All   American City
Aaron Copland: Variations on a Shaker Hymn
Aaron Copland:   Hoe-Down from "Rodeo"
Louis Moreau Gottschalk: Festa Criola from "Night in   the Tropics"
Scott Joplin: The Entertainer (arranged by Gunther Schuller)
Morton Gould: American Symphonette No. 2
Leroy Anderson: The Typewriter Song
John Williams: E.T.: The Flying Theme

The Typewriter? Isn't that a little archaic for Planet X?

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I wish there was snow on the ground... Ah, well..

*It was interesting checking out the forecast throughout the day yesterday - everything from just a few flurries to a minor-major winter storm... and back again.

*And if I didn't say it earlier, I really do owe Steve some major thanks for helping me with my move this week.  The U-Haul was packed to the brim - and I had to leave a couple of boxes-o-stuff down in DC.  And, right now, my room here looks like a warehouse - a very organized warehouse, but boxes from floor to ceiling nonetheless.  And I really could not have done it without Steve.

My media check, m'dear:

iPod:  Just finished listening to the latest Nora Jones and somehow managed to stay awake.  I need to listen to something more jazzy, now--perhaps some 12th century Gregorian chants.

What I had expected to put me to sleep but utterly delighted me instead was Carly Simon's INTO WHITE CD.  It's a wonderful recording.  I think DR Tomovoz has reccomended it here before.

TIVO:  I have about three weeks' worth of BREAKFAST WITH THE ARTS to fast forward through.  Plus THE KILLERS from TCM last night, a film which I have never seen.

DVD:  THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA (which I've seen) and LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE (which I haven't.)

...And we both enjoyed Mary Poppins last night.  And we had great seats too!

*And we ended up having lots of room in our row too.  Steve and I were seated at one end next to another couple, and there was another couple seated at the other end.  And no one in between - at least eight empty seats.  Eight empty prime orchestra seats.  So, at intermission, we all moved in closer to the center and were able to have our own armrests. -I'm just wondering is some group/family was not able to make it in, or if the box office should have released the house seat row earlier for public sale.  In any case...

-We both shed a tear during "Feed the Birds".

Well, I think we're heading down to Steinway Hall in a bit for some "dreaming".  -Steve is also looking to upgrade his current upright, so we're going to try out a couple of the newer models.

In the meantime, time to get the day started...
