I love this film---the scenes in the hospital always make me cry!

It has the same effect on me. Every time. Without fail.

Okay, time to take a little poll.  I have in storage boxes of CDs I've produced, both for Varese and elsewhere.  I would really like to thin out the stock and I've been thinking for some time about how to do that.  A certain label has basically let everything go out of print (I suppose you can still order direct, but most copies on amazon are from private sellers).  So, is there any interest if I make these titles available at, say, ten bucks each, only to people on this here site (not via Kritzerland).  I'd publish a list of the available titles and payment could be made via paypal.

I started my evening with W. C. Fields in POPPY, the film version of one of his Broadway hits. The movie must have been much more requested than the three previous ones in the set because there's more damage to it than to the others. It's a little grainier, too, and less pristine.

But it's a Fields classic undoubtedly. Has that famous routine with the talking dog, his extended croquet match, and many other delightful bits. Rochelle Hudson and John Cromwell make a gorgeous couple, too.

Next, I put back in SHOCK TO THE SYSTEM and watched about 40 minutes of it. It's just so much fun. Really like the mystery a bit more than the one in THIRD MAN OUT plus we get that excellent backstory on Donald and his army career.

Well, I'm leaving work...and it's so early!  I just got back from an eye appointment (no change in my prescription) and they dilated my eyes.  But I can't focus on anything up close, even my computer screen (this is all very blurry).  Since I have so much sick leave, I'm leaving and going to my sister's house to watch TV on her high definition TV!  That's far enough away. ;D

Apparently, George, we both had eye appointments today.  My results were not as positive.  Next week more tests.

Shirley Temple in THE LITTLE PRINCESS is lovely and heartbreaking and has a great supporting cast...all of whom adored her.

I much prefer Marcia Mae Jones in HEIDI, though.

AMERICAN IDOL tonight:

I thought once again Melinda was in a class by herself, mainly because she OWNS the stage when she's performing. Her voice is solid, but her gestures, her movement, her presentation is just so interesting and true. She never makes a misstep.

My second favorite vocal of the night was Gina. She was my least favorite female singer last week, but I liked her voice very much tonight.

LaKisha's was my third favorite vocal although, as I've been saying, she has zero presentation. Her voice is very strong, and she's always solid on the vocals, but her face is immobile, and there's no joy in her performance.

Jordin's song choice was poor. The low notes were too low for her, and the rest was chanting rather than singing. Blah!

I didn't think any of the men sold themselves well tonight. Blake and Chris Richardson had okay renditions. Chris Sligh was indeed ahead of the music thus making his vocal kind of inconsequential. Phil had some pitch problems early (but he does have power when he uses it; I'd love to see him sing a song full out one time.)

As always, Sanjaya brought up the rear. The hair was absurd, the vocal erractic at best, and he was cocky with the judges. I'd like to see THAT do him in. Sad to say, I don't think it will, at least not yet.

If I had to guess who the bottom two will be, I'd say Haley and Phil.

HOUSE had a fascinating case tonight with a soldier apparently suffering from Gulf War syndrome. A very surprising discovery solved the case none too soon.

DIRT had its season (and probably series) finale with Jennifer Aniston vying for Lucy's job (all the while contending that she didn't want it), Don going psychotic, Holt dumping his girl friend Julia, and the stalker being discovered (whose identity I guessed WEEKS ago.) The cliffhanger ending, of course, means nothing if the show doesn't get picked up for another season. I'm guessing FX will hold off making an announcement of renewal or cancellation until the ratings come in for the first episodes of THE SHIELD'S new season. Cable ratings have been down for certain shows, so I'm sure they want to see if it's a trend or just people tuning out DIRT.

Jose, you know Dr. Choi? He's absolutely marvelous. He actually chose me to be in his studio, and I don't regret it at all.

For those who don't know him (aka everyone else), Dr. Choi is practically a celebrity in Korea, and he came to the US to get his Masters (from Juilliard) and his doctorate (from the Manhattan School of Music), and he's sort of planted himself at JMU for the past 30 years. He has a vocabulary of about 200 words, most of which are music terms, and even then, he's a genius teacher. He's also the kindest and most hilarious professor in the School of Music here. Every morning he goes to our gym at 6:30, swims, and works out, and thus, at 70 years of age, is in better shape than most of his students. He also prays for each of his students every day, and has us fill out prayer cards at the beginning of each semester.

His vocal advice consists of little catchphrases that he bellows out during lessons, such as "FREE VACATION" (relax yourself), "WEST POINT" (keep your chin down) and "JEFF" (my nonexistent ex-boyfriend who cheats on me during songs when I'm angry, and who I'm in love with during the sappy numbers).

I'm a little obsessed with Dr. Choi.

Well since I need to be heading south by car by around 6:30 AM at the latest, I better get some sleep. I have a 3 hour lay over in Milwaukee. I'm hoping they have wireless in the airport. It's a nice airport, quiet and very easy to get around in, so I'm sure I'll find somewhere to camp out with my computer.

Sondheim may have checked vocal abilities of Depp and the others, but let's face it: Johnny Depp is one of the biggest box-office draws in the world, he's Tim Burton's favorite male star, and if Burton wanted Depp to assure the project would get a green light, they'll make concessions to get Depp.

What we may end up with is part Depp and part dubber, kind of like what was done with Rosalind Russell in GYPSY.

My day is going to be a bit split tomorrow because I'm taking a friend to the airport at 12:30, so I'll have less viewing time tomorrow afternoon than usual on a typical Wednesday.
