Or maybe, the next time he drives you home, "accidentally" trip and pretend to twist your ankle so he'll have to help (carry??) you all the way to your apartment. ;D

Heck, I just want to spill a cup of coffee on his shirt, and offer him a clean t-shirt.  A small, but clean t-shirt.

Oh boy, is it hard for me to get any work done.  My schedule is fairly light this week and I have lots of trouble getting things done when there isn't much to do, but when I know that I probably won't be here for the end of most of these cases, it's really hard to get excited about them.   I'm doing what needs to be done, but since my heart really isn't in it, I'm just going through the motions and that feels very strange.

So...

Why Should Never Bring In "I'm The Greatest Star" To An Audition:

1) Barbra Streisand's version is basically definitive, and what most pianists are familiar with.  So, as long as you "sing it like Babs", then there's nothing to worry about in regards to timing out some of the jokes between phrases.

2) Alas, if you "sing if like Babs", then you're simply doing an imitation of the "original".

3) And if you try to be original, well, then don't shoot the pianist any attitude for not knowing where your "hits" are.

4) And then if you end up doing a combo of "Babs" and "your own thing", well... More power to ya'!

*The above guidelines apply to "Cornet Man" too.  :-\

So...

If I happened to play three auditions in a row for you a few weeks ago, and "suggested" to you that you put your music in a binder - "No loose sheets, please," - and you come in today with your music still loose...  Well, I tried my best not to shoot any attitude your way.

Seems to me you'd want your music in a binder so it wouldn't accidentally get out of order or fall off the piano or...make the piano player want to shoot you

Glad CDs are arriving.

I myself received a rather large and imposing package from Brazil today - I'd forgotten it was coming.  And in this package, sent by a friend who now lives there, were a whole slew of DVDRs of films that are simply not available anywhere else.  But not only are they DVDRs, they are all 16x9 anamorphic transfers - while the few that I've sampled are not quite up to DVD standards, a few of them are better than transfers made by certain companies - all of them are sharp and more than acceptable - frequently excellent.  Some of the titles are Pepe (looks incredible), Freud, The List Of Adrian Messenger, Commanche Station, Ride Lonesome, Mickey One, These Are The Damned, Lost Horizon (the musical), Good Neighbor Sam, and the one I'm watching now, Alan Pakula's Love and Pain and The Whole Damn Thing, which I've never been able to see before.  There are others, too, such as Once More With Feeling, The Running Man, Interlude, The Pumpkin Eater, Sunrise At Campabello, and Bowhani Junction.  Fun, huh?

Also got a region 2 DVD of Romulus and Remus, aka Duel Of The Titans, which I'm very much looking forward to.

So...

If you happen to come in today with your six-page song copied onto three double-page-folds... And then look over at me at the piano wondering why I haven't started playing your intro yet...

"I'm just trying to arrange your music so that it won't fall off the piano, and so that I can get the page turns.  So, if I end up dropping notes, just keep going."

-Oh, I'm sorry you have to do that.

"Well, it's your audition."

-Alas, that last comment was tinged with a bit of 'tude, and not so under my breath.

Callie decided she was not going to take her pill this morning. She ended up winning. I have never seen her so mad at me before.  Missing a day won't hurt.

Just what makes them "Marcelled"?

From Ballreich's website:

"The term "Marcelled" was applied to the Ballreich potato chip early in the history of the company. During the early 1920's the "marcelled" look was popular in hair fashion. Women at that time had their hair cut short and then set in waves. This wavy-look resembled the corrugated cut of the Ballreich potato chip. Ballreich's chips have been "marcelled" since that time, but the term has not yet been recognized by the potato chip industry."

Sort of like the r-r-r-ridges in R-R-R-Ruffles.

Bingo!

But again, singers by sheet music so that they can learn their music.  Not so that a pianist can play it for them at their audition.  :-\

Well, just as long as you don't come across any Marcelled hairs in your potato chips...

Now, I'm going to make a meat loaf for tomorrow's dinner.  I have to go back to work and I think DH Richard can put it in the oven one-handed.  He can use his left hand and even bend his arm at the elbow, but his left arm isn't very strong yet and he can't raise it using his shoulder.

So...

Spamalot opened just over two years ago on Broadway.  The OCR has been out for almost the same amount of time.  The Vocal Selections have also been available for a while...

So, you are most definitely not the first person to come in with "Find Your Grail".  And don't be disappointed when you find out the people behind the table aren't impressed by the fact that you are actually going to perform the song.

...And, please, please, please, don't try to sound like Sara Ramirez when your voice and vocal range comes no where near Ms. Ramirez's instrument.
