I did not mention meat loaf. I love meat loaf, but I don't eat it any more. My DH despises meat loaf, so I don't make it for him.

Ask the drywall man.  Or that woman over there, with the tool belt.

BK has an affinity for scatological humor...so the sports analogy might be amusing.

Aha! Well, you are going to most definitely observe a correlation to the amount of posted scatological humor and my whereabouts. :D

I think the common denominator seems to be about politics. Political topics have so greatly divided us these days that we've become ticking time bombs. You'd think that a group made up of Randy Newman fans would more or less be on the same page politically --

What has been lost is the art of polite discourse - it's no longer about ideas, it's about people - if I disagree with your opinion, I must attack you. A sense of humor helps (as Larry will tell you, I've been known to post some pretty funny stuff that is very far afield from my personal beliefs).

Stereotyping political views based on artistic tastes is tricky. While I was a Midshipman, my bookshelves were filled with poems by Ferlinghetti, plays by Sarte, and stacks of LPs by Joan Baez and Peter, Paul and Mary. My Magazine stack had MAD as well as National Review. While steaming in the Gulf of Tonkin, in between supporting bombing runs, I would listen to Judy Collins and Tom Lehrer.

Is it any wonder I ended up a Gay Republican?

der Brucer

I gained an interesting insight into political discourse on my first ship as an officer. A fellow young Ensign was a Harvard graduate who had been a member of their Progressive Youth Group (or some such Maoist coven); we could not have more diverse political views. However, when it came to practical action, we both generally agreed - coming from opposite directions, we regularly met in the center to agree on a public policy for the best: as long as we argued "what" and not "why", we could agree.

*patiently waiting for DR Dan (the Man)'s "rant and rave" about rec.arts.theatre.musicals...*

 ::)

I'll let Dan-the-Man speak more completely about rec.arts.theatre.musicals but I have been to that newsgroup as a lurker. DTM was a poster. With some exceptions a sorrier group of angry, bitter, unhappy people would be difficult to find. At the drop of a hat you would be flamed in the most vile terms, many times for just expressing a differing opinion. That site has some cyber bullies of major proportions. They claim to post because of their love of musical theatre but they seem to enjoy the trashing (especially of newcomers) more than anything. One of our former DRs, Noel, also posted there and the attacks on him and DTM were egregious. Yes, you need a thick skin on the Internet and you should be able and willing to brush off some idiot who spews garbage but come on! It's a rather toxic site (IMHO) and I stopped lurking because it was unpleasant to read the rants.

"Spelling" should be on the endangered subjects list in basic education.

I think we've passed that challenge with the Grandlads - Alex regularly pipes up with "Grandpa, how do you spell..." and often uses his dictionary. "Caring" is main ingredient in learning.

LOL.  Even I prefer not to eat Quorn, which is fine since eating too much has been known to create bathroom problems, delicately speaking.

FEEL BETTER VIBES!

So, Quorn and Crow's "One Sheet Only" campaign don't play well together.

Back from a jog - yes, finally back to jogging after a three-week hiatus to finish doing all that needed doing (mostly the book).

I've done some of my best "preparation" while reading in the bathroom.

I am listening to the song this instant.

Wow....very, very slow pacing...at least at the beginning.

Hmmm, I'm sure I've never heard this. We'll see if it grows on me. It's very brassy, innit?

TOD:

AOL Gay Political Boards
Then Talkin' Broadway
Then Sondheim.com (until the dual identity incident)
Now HHW (and an occaisonal post on Gay Conservative boards)

My Pedantry over Politics came vividly into play on the AOL boards where I would regulary jump into a discussion on the "wrong side" (the one I did not expouse) because the propounder needed help with the rhetoric.

It was particular fun watching Jane Powell do Flaming Agnes.
