Well the chimneys now have caps.  Black caps, to be precise.  I'm not sure I like the look, but it doesn't look too bad and will help keep bats out of my house and the water from getting in and damaging the chimneys

Otherwise, it's been WQXR helping me sleep in the evening.

I thought that was James, the hunky van driver?   ;)

I've been wondering if someone here could develop Maisie Dobbs - The Musical?

Interesting idea.

The first book  (Maisie Dobbs) includes Maisie's mentor, who I see as a sort of David Suchet type. Any casting ideas, DR GINNY?

...And this morning, when the radio turned on at 7:45, WQXR was in the midst of various tributes to Mstislav Rostropovich - or "Slava" as he preferred to be called during his tenure with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC.  They had a wonderful interview with David Finckel, the cellist of the Emerson String Quartet, as well as some musical remembrances.

-When I was in college, one of the LPs I listened to repeatedly in the school's music library, was Rostropovich's recording of the Debussy Cello Sonata with Benjamin Britten at the piano.  I was amazed at how long it took for that recording to get released on CD.  I think I will have to dig that out sometime this weekend.  -Plus, that set of Russian songs where Rostropovich accompanies his wife, Galina Vishnevskaya.  Who knew a cellist could play piano so well? ;)

Um, No.  Alas, last night, since there was a talk back, James was driving the "talk backers" back to Manhattan after the talk back (which was last night instead of the night before).  I took the first van back.  I believe, Dave, was the driver last night.

For British drama fans:

THE AMBASSADOR, starring Pauline Collins, is quite good, I thought. She's the sort of female politican I like to see.

DER BRUCER--check it out and tell me what you think about the strong female. Available from Netflix.

Galina Vishnevskaya.

The Russian soprano?  Just pronouncing her name is refreshing enough.

From TCB last night:

Quote from: Ben on Yesterday at 02:06:32pm
He has at least one show planned every night that he's here. He arrived late Tuesday evening (too late to see a show) and he saw two shows yesterday. He has one this evening, one tomorrow (Friday), two on Saturday, two on Sunday, one on Monday, one on Tuesday, two on Wednesday and he leaves on Thursday. 12 shows in seven full days in the city!

Isn't Broadway still dark on Mondays?

Not anymore. There are not a lot of shows on Monday night but there are enough that you can see something. Most shows play Tuesday through Sunday but some shows play other schedules.

Phantom, Coram Boy, Deuce and Avenue Q are some of the shows that play on Monday.

Mamma Mia has two days of dark, Monday and Tuesday. There schedule is Wednesday 2 and 8, Thursday and Friday at 8, Saturday at 2 and 8 and Sunday at 2 and 7. An 8 show schedule in 5 days. Lion King also plays Wednesday through Sunday.

Yes, Broadway has changed.

Ah, I didn't realize that Mamma Mia! switched to the 5-day week too.  Although, I'm guessing that they will switch to a "summer schedule" like most other shows do in a few weeks.  -Oh, and Tarzan also just runs Wednesday-Sunday.

Spring Awakening used to be dark on Wednesdays, but, now, I believe their dark day is Tuesdays, and over the next couple of weeks, it's switching to Monday.   Rent also just went to a "dark Monday" after years of being dark on Wednesdays.

I've seen previews on Monday nights as well. I think the Sweeney Todd preiview I went to was on  a Monday.

A bunch of shows will run from Monday-Saturday during the preview period, and then switch to a "regular" Tuesday-Sunday schedule after opening.  Lestat did that.  Alas, just for four weeks, but that was our schedule.  Most of it depends if their rehearsal week ran Mon-Sat or Tue-Sun.

I'm happy to photocopy the pertinent pages for those DRs who are interested.  There's some very interesting background information on the source play.

Alas, DR JoseSPiano was shortchanged in the credits department.  They list him as "Rehearsal Pianist" but NOT as a member of the orchestra.  They say, since his name already appeared in the program.

Pshaw, as DR Miss Karen might say.

And the Study Guides are now available on WCP's website.  I think you should check them out, DR JRand.  ;)

Paul:  Joanne, you know that musician I met yesterday over at the Playhouse...the one that needed the haircut?

Joanne:  Yes, I recall.

Paul:  Well, I saw him again today, and darned if he didn't go ahead and get his hair cut!

Joanne:  Well, that's great, Paul!  But you'd better get that picture re-taken, then.

Paul:  Why is that, Joanne?

Joanne:  Well, with the Internet these days, you don't know where the old picture might get posted, and we have your image to consider!

Paul:  Well, at least my name is not "Naomi".
