Page Three Three Boulez Piano Sonatas Dance!

*Maurizio Pollini is playing the Boulez Second Sonata this afternoon.  Alas, I've heard the piece way too many times at piano competitions, and that's sort of why I'm not sure I want to go this afternoon.  However, he is also playing the Second Book of the Debussy Preludes, so...

However, for a wonderful recital of some touchstones of 20th Century Classical piano music, I highly recommend this "recital" by Maurizio Pollini:

It's actually a compilation of two LP releases from the 70s, but they sound as if they were recorded yesterday.  -And the remastering of the original CD release is actually quite noticable - in a good way.  It can be a bit of a "thorny listen" - especially the Boulez - but there is some truly magnificent playing on this album.  -The Stravinsky and Prokofiev in particular have some awe-inspiring pianism.

Hi Jose - Just left you a message asking about hotels in Williamstown.  Do you have any time to offer a little telephonic advice?

Jose is so close to 18000.  That's 1000 times chai, for Jewish folk.

Today is the day of reckoning.  I have procrastinated on laundry for far too long!  :)

Hmm... I wonder if your underwear would fetch as many bids as DR MBarnum's?

Oh, sorry... I think my phone is still in my bag from last night.  However, as for hotels in Williamstown.  From what I recall - and this was from the staff people at WTF - there's really nothing that nice up there.  There is that one hotel adjacent to Williams College, and they get the bulk of the WTF business.  However, there's a smaller hotel down the street.  Very basic.  And they usually put some of the crew over-hires up there.

And that's really all I know.

Hmm... Does that mean I can celebrate that milestone with a hamantaschen or two?

*Oh, that reminds me... Gruenbaume's had Chocolate(!) Hamantaschen last year.... Hmm...

Thanks for the info, Jose.

Do you still need a phone consult?

*Be sure to ask if the artist housing for Skip - I'm assuming they'll be bringing him up for a few days - has air conditioning.  Most of the campus dorms don't have A/C since it's basically a "winter campus".  However the mainstage theatres are all fully air-cooled.

Have done some puttering, shopped online at Lands End, and gotten ready for my lunch date with DH Richard - just waiting for his call.

Oh, I also had to decline an invitation from a girlfriend to use her husband's ticket to the Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati production of Souvenir this afternoon - the timing just wouldn't have worked.

That's too bad, DR Ginny.  Souvenir is following All About Us in Westport.  With Judy Kaye!

Here in Cincinnati, Neva Rae Powers is Florence Foster Jenkins.

Jose - We're fine for now, but may need to pick your brain for more info at another time.

Finding a whole smorgasbord (sp?) of hotels not on the linked list from the festival site.

MBarnum, are you still in LA?  When do you come home?  I have a question for you.  Have you ever interviewed Ty Hardin?

Yep, there are a bunch of "motor lodges" in that area.  It will all depend how "comfortable" and "quaint" you want to be.  However, there are some nearby towns with nicer accommodations, so that might be an option too.

I'd really like to see this local Souvenir because of

Scot Woolley

who's playing the accompanist.  My friend Becky and I used to see him in Showboat Majestic productions.
