BOSTON LEGAL had a great trial concerning people being detained at Guantanemo. Loved all of Alan's remarks in his closing.

Great news about Jerry Espenson.

Bernadette Peters guest starred as a judge, and William Shatner making eyes at her during the trial was indeed hilarious.

It's not quite as hot as yesterday, hence the home environment is bearable, heat-wise.

HOUSE had an interesting case of a young woman with yet another mystery illness.

I was horrified by the drug doping that House and WIlson pulled on each other. What an unusual friendship.

My DVD for later seems like it will be an interesting one - the only film directed by writer Gavin Lambert, of whom I'm a fan.  It's from 1954, prior to his writing any of his novels and stories.  How this film happened would be interesting to know - there's some profile of Mr. Lambert as an extra on the DVD so perhaps that will tell me.  The film is loosely based on his friendship with Paul Bowles (the subject of The Sheltering Sky), and it seems like a companion piece to Renoir's The River.

I got the new Criterion release of THE THIRD MAN today and began watching it. I have the 1999 release and watched a bit of it the other day anticipating this new release. I haven't synched them up yet to compare, but just from an offhanded observation, this new one seems a little more stable with no judder in the transfer. They went from Dolby 2.0 Mono to 1.0 mono and increased the volume to hide a slight hiss on the soundtrack.

Still, this remains one of the greatest movies ever made, and my admiration for it only grows every time I see it.

Looking forward to another new episode of LOST tonight which has, of late, been really delivering on all levels.  Can't wait to see if we learn what Juliet meant by "We should tell her."

I think ABC is going to make a BIG mistake by keeping the show on hiatus until 2008.  Seven months until any new episodes?  HBO has been able to get away with that with THE SOPRANOS, but even that show has lost viewers with each season.

Have any of the NYC folk seen that tacky commercial for Daisy Mae Barbecue (on 46th and 11th)?   The food is fantastic, but I wonder why they're promoting themselves in a such a lowbrow manner.

Well DR DtM - you could protest by watching AVENTURERA.  That'll learn 'em.

Yes we need some new fashion shots of you, MR BK.  Then we can all dress in our finery and parade around here for the dilectation of our mysterious guests.

And, there is an entire disc of extras, so that left a lot more rrom on disc one for THE THIRD MAN to max out its bit-rate in the transfer.

They did keep that irritating Peter Bogdanovich introduction from the 1999 release.

Peter was also a guest star on that LAW & ORDER: CI episode I watched this afternoon. He played a Hugh Hefner-type playboy with women draping themselves all around him, and I must say it was incredibly gag-inducing.

LOST has lost viewers since its first season, too. It's now at its lowest ratings in its history.

And you know, I can't even watch ten minutes of The Third Man...

Joseph Cotton is an actor whose "message" I don't get.  He isn't handsome - to my way of thinking - and he just seems to always give the same performance.  He and Robert Ryan are the two noir actors whose performances just don't interest me.  Not that they aren't in some other good movies that I enjoy...they ARE....  But give me Tyrone or William Holden or Robert Mitchum or even Alan Ladd....and I will be happy.

Yes, Jennifer, I will report as soon as I read something about the ultinate fate of VERONICA MARS.

Next week are the up-fronts where each network will unveil its new schedule for next season. NBC begins the week.

Prancing with the Stars....I am surprised a rival network hasn't programmed that!  Sometimes I watch the results show....

I did watch about 20 minutes of AI last night....I was tuned in for about 40 minutes....but only 20 minutes of it was the show...the rest of the time was filled with commercials and promos.

I don't have a preference for any of the four people I saw last night.  I don't think I would want to buy a CD from any of them - and I just WISH that the whole show would END!  FOREVER!  Thank you very much.

About Blake and the beatboxing:

Several weeks ago, Randy chided Blake for not doing it often enough because it was what made him unique. I'll swear, the judges are often more hindrance than help since they say whatever pops into their heads but are as inconsistent as can be about what they've said previously.

And I also think it's very clear that the show's producers are now tapping Jordin as this year's winner. They incloded all those rave comments from Gibb about her, they gave her the final slot in the show, and though the judges were a bit more reserved last night in her second song, you can tell that she's their darling, too.

So, it's OK with you to deny pleasure that the rest of us could achieve when it's so much easier to just turn your set to another channel and skip comments here about the singers and performances.

I don't quite understand that kind of thinking.

I just read that NBC has canceled THE REAL-LIFE WEDDING CRASHERS from the Monday 10 p.m. slot. The next two weeks will have new episodes of LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT shown in that timeslot. Repeats of the shows will then air Tuesday night in its regular timeslot.

I also read that Fox is planning to show the remaining episodes of DRIVE in July, but no definite dates have been set as yet.

I went to Lowe's to see about the tilemen. They had me on record, but the tile contractor didn't. So now let's see how long it takes for them to call.

What a strange day!  By 4 PM, the Mac Man had not shown so I called him.  He said he knew he had an appointment today but could not remember with whom.  We set a new date for Monday at 2.
