DR Noel - Be sure to coordinate your rehearsal schedule around the Yankees' and Met's home game schedule.  Otherwise, you might notice Mr. Oscar calling in "sick".  ;)

I had a wonderful time with him during Damn Yankees and Cabaret down at Arena Stage.  But, man, is he a baseball fan(atic)!  -He won't call out sick, but, if the Yankees make the playoffs... I'm just sayin'.. ;D

Travel by plane in 1960 when I was nine for a one day trip to NYC to see Lucy in WILDCAT....which I have written about here before.

I did wear a suit and tie....and think most of the men on board did so, as did my uncle who took me.  The stewardesses had on gloves when we got on board.  It seems to me that it was a prop plane.  Of course I had seen JULIE and just knew that those stewardesses could have brought the plane in had something happened to the pilots.

First overseas flight was in 1989 when I went to Ireland.....to take our production of MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM to the Dundalk Play Festival.

That is of course the night Lucy grabbed my hand when she said "No more autographs...."

And she sounded more like Broderick Crawford than Lucy Ricardo.

It is charming the way MR BK opens the notes to us everyday....and I love seeing "Well Dear Readers" as a tab in my tray.

Wow!  We have a bat in the theatre that LOVES musicals.  It was in the rehearsal center last Friday....but eventually moved into the auditorium.

I have suggested we do some Ibsen....that should get rid of it.

Tuesday morning greetings!  Last night we turned off the AC and opened our windows for the first time in weeks and it was delightful for sleeping.  The heat isn't over, but at least it's cooling off at night now.

DR Cillaliz - YIKES!

I don't think anyone linked to this yet - I'm still catching up! - but in Saturday's NY Times, Charles Isherwood posted a very amusing piece about a stage version of Disney's High School Musical in Chicago.

Very funny article, DR SINGDAW.

I am not a member of that church - but several times I have heard its tenets discussed by those around me.

I am still NOT convinced that it is the DUTY of community theatre to provide a musical specifically FOR the high school crowd every summer....taking a slot away from ADULTS....when students have at least ONE opportunity (and sometimes two) during the school year to participate in the ritual...a luxury we don't necessarily have.

But my argument falls on bat....or rather....deaf ears....same thing.

Speaking of learning lines...

Does anyone even use sides anymore?  I mean, I know if you rent a show from Tams - Witmark, they send them...

But I've always found it easier to xerox the entire script and work from that.

Ain't it the truth.  I hate sides....and won't direct a TAMS show...and there are a LOT of good shows there....because of that.

You lose a week of rehearsal because of sides.

Good Morning! Once Again!

DR JRand - I'm back with the gauchos on the Argentinian pampas.  Well, at least in Junin.  There's some tango singer at some dive that's really laying it on thick.

And now, something that has absolutely nothing to do with neither the Topic of the Day nor the Word of the Day:  Tonight, I'm going to see Young[/b][/u] Frankenstein[/u][/b], the new musical by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan!!  I can't wait! :D

DR George - When Shuler Hensley comes out for his bow, yell - in a sort of angry, but determined manner - "STICK AROUND!" for me.  ;D

All this talk of bats reminds me of a a cut on a Richard Pryor LP from the 1970s.  I don't remember which LP or which routine he was doing, but I do remember one quickly delievered line:

"Rat sh*t! Cat sh*t! Bat sh*t"

He reiterated the last pairing and was off and running.

I'll have to dig that LP out one of these days.
