On second thought, maybe we need some yummy, low-cal, low-fat, low-carb recipes.

Got up a half-hour later than I wanted to - must now shave and ship and then meet.  No news on the casting front and you know they say no news is good news, which we hope the news will be when it comes.

Why does this look like Edward G. Robinson in drag?

BK, I caught ALL FALL DOWN for the first time a couple of years ago...and quite fell in love with it, despite its imperfections.

In high school and up till my mid-thirties, I stayed in pretty good shape and was probably at my peak weight when I was at around 170.  I see-sawed throughout my mid-thirties into my mid-forties, when I actually got down to my high-school weight again.  But that didn't stay long, though at that point in my life, it was probably too thin.  Things levelled off between 180-190 through the rest of my forties.  My avatar here reflects that time.  Things are inching up too much these days and I've just ordered a treadmill.

In about ten minutes I shall be on my way to Fed Ex and then the morning meeting at Art's Deli, then to return sneakers, then back here for a while, then to ship a couple of packages via USPS, then to pick up mail, then back here for another meeting.

OK...

Is the pink beret character supposed to be gay?

Is Disney getting that progressive?

Looks like MusicGuy has a "younger-him".

And that fantastic, bluesy Alex North score complements it exquisitely!

Snug Shorts are uncomfortable.

Snug Shirts are revealing, and can be uncomfortable, and can exacerbate "pitting out".

Snug is best as a character in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

I, too, had no weight problems as a child. During college I weighed around 115 to 120. My lowest weight was when I was on the road doing Sesame Street Live and wearing a full body costume, sweating away for more than 8 shows a week (on the weekend sometimes we did as many as 3 shows a day on Saturday and Sunday, Equity concessions to get the contract). At that time I weighed 106. When I came back to the city I gained about 10 pounds and went back to my average 115-120 weight. Then when I was around 45 years old I started gaining weight and topped out at around 138-140. I know it doesn't sound like a lot but on a small frame (I'm 5' 3") 140 is big. I can also be cheap when I want to and I was determined NOT to buy a closet full of new clothes. When I turned 50 (in 2003) I joined Weight Watchers and I dropped about 15 pounds (140 to 125) again, it doesn't sound like a lot but as they said in Weight Watchers, go to the produce section and pick up a 15 pound bag of potatoes and carry it with you as you walk around the store. You'll see how much it really weighs. Long story short, I kept the weight off for a while and then went back to the old ways of eating and not exercising. I felt the pounds creeping back and decided it was best (especially because my cholesterol was getting out of control as well) to begin eating healthy again. I'm now back down to approximately 115. I've been there for about a year and it's easy to maintain and I feel much better. Because I exercise regularly (I try to ride the stationary bike every day but sometimes I don't have the time) and eat well 99.99% of the time I feel I can indulge on special occasions (like an HHW gathering) without worry of gaining back lost pounds. Just because you overindulge one day doesn't mean you will gain back all the weight you lost overnight. As long as you eat well and do some kind of exercise, you're on the right track and you should be able to maintain. And that is my weight gain and loss story.

TOD:

As an adult I was at my lowest of 135 (after leaving the hospital after a bout with Hepatitis).

The first time I quit smoking I went from 156 to 196 in no time at all. I lost all the excess poundage in two ways; first a live-style chance of replacing Budweiser with Miller Lite (and at an average of 4-5 cans per day, that adds up). I also had my own loose-weight diet - steak, fresh tomatoes, and lots of cucumbers!

The next big weight surge came the second time I quit smoking - I had been in the hospital with double pneumonia and an esophageal infection; I couldn't swallow well, and lost lots of weight; I had trouble inhaling, so I couldn't smoke. When I was discharged, I considered starting smoking again - but I realized that the four weeks of forced abstinence had put me over the hurdle of nicotine withdrawal - resumption seemed just stupid! The Doctor was greatly concerned about my weight loss (funny thing, that not-eating stuff) and insisted putting me on a high fat/high-protein diet. The dietician urged me to eat lots of donuts, bowls of ice cream and milk shakes. Well, not smoking and that diet got me over 200lbs in record time!

Now, I eat what I want and reside comfortably at around 185 - where is right where the Doc wants me.

Of course, I still have those great double-knit leisure suits with 30" waist pants I long to wear again.

But we all knew this:

Quote
Blue-eyed people better off, say scientists

PEOPLE with blue eyes are likely to achieve more in life than those with brown, say US scientists.

Scientists who conducted the tests said brown-eyed people performed better at reaction time, but those with lighter eyes appeared to be better strategic thinkers, the Daily Mail reported.

From a TV GUIDE commentary on last nights COMPANY:

Quote
Truly, it seems, the Cold War was a grand debacle, perhaps summed up best by Michael Keaton ’s Angleton in his greenhouse conversation with Chris O’Donnell ’s Jack: "We’re all lost, Jack. We’re lost in the wilderness of mirrors."

Thay failed to comment on the great camera work surrounding the scene. We are inside a large greenhouse where Angleton is tending his orchids. At the "wilderness of mirrors" line we slowly pull back to outside and above, and see the characters below through the many greenhouse roof window panes.

I hope COMPANY gets TNT a load of well deserved Emmys for this mini-series.

It was great fun; thanks to all DRs for the recommendation.

And for today's fashion news:

TRENDSPOTTING

Quote
The Chicken Suit

I know what you’re thinking: no clucking way. But the fact is, after century after century of having to watch chickens parade about naked, artist Edgar Honetschlager has  taken the situation into his own hands. After dreaming of a world where chickens were given their dignity back, the Austrian artist got the backing of several Japanese investors and set out to cloak our feathered brethren in the most fashionable ways he could think of.

Chickens "given their dignity back"??? They used to wear clothes? And some Japanese investors actually put up money for this??
