I finally completed the entire first season of UGLY BETTY. I love TV box sets, but I don't recommend watching them in one big binge. I am glad I'll be able to watch DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES over the course of a week or so. The set isn't released until September 4.

The bonus features on UGLY BETTY were just OK. The best was a 5-minute look on how they CGI al the NYC backgrounds via green screen. (It's shot on the Paramount lot.) There were 27 deleted scenes and a little less than 4 minutes of bloopers.

When I go back down later, I plan to watch HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 before the start of THE CLOSER tonight. If I can squeeze it in, I'll scan through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS to see if anything of importance happens with the gay character(s).

Back from a delightful afternoon at the movies with my mother.  We both enjoyed Hairspray - she'd never seen it on stage and I'd seen it twice (once in NYC and once on tour).

While I was away DH Richard went over to the hospital to check on his mother, who dispatched him to her apartment for some items.  Thanks for your continued vibes for her.

We're about to have a thunderstorm, so I think it's time to disconnect the computer for a while.

BK, if you are wanting some recommendations of local (to us) actors, let us know.

What is Nathan Lane doing these days?

Topic of the Day:  I have never...ever...been "height-weight proportionate." ::)

I've only tried to lose weight once:  About six and a half years ago, my friend Margo wanted to adopt another baby from China, but didn't want to have to buy two seats for herself (she is also a large person), so she checked out several weight-loss programs and decided on this particular program that was offered through Group Health in Seattle, but a couple of their people drove down to Olympia to run the program here.  It was like OptiFast in that it was an all-liquid meal replacement plan, but it wasn't as calorically restrictive.  Their edict is NO LESS than 1000 calories a day.  It was great watching her lose the weight.  I decided (pretty much on a whim) to try it also.  In about 10 months, I lost 120 pounds!  I loved it...for the most part (I did get a little bored after a while, but added fruits and vegetables, mainly fruits).  Anyway, the program was offered by a company that contracted through Group Health and in the fall of 2002, they (the company) decided that they weren't making enough money on the Olympia contingent (at least, that's our theory), so the pulled the plug.  Those bastards!  They abandoned us!  And as you all know, reality set in and I and several others went back to our old ways (a couple other people who work here went through the program, also).  I've gained back most but not all of it (I'm about 30 pounds less now than my heaviest), and have pretty much maintained where I am for the last year and a half...that's gotta count for something, right? ;)

I have no problem with folks getting enthusiastic about the GREASE movie (or even the said-to-be-mediocre new revival) or HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 1 or 2.

If any of these shows bring a kid to musical theater and make him a fan, I think that's a positive especially in these days of non-music music. For all their flaws, these shows do contain singable songs.

They have plenty of time to learn about the real cream of musical theater once they get hooked on the form.

I'm just nauseated, really, and feeling totally at sea being here in LA until Wednesday - to say I am not happy with this situation and my casting guy would the the understatement of the century.

Tom, are you working on a compilation of Georgia songs? Just wondering...
I did think of it but they are not a good mix!

I did do a Disc of versions of "Georgia On My Mind" and "Rainy Night In Georgia" - both songs I like a lot.

BK, you might talk to Alex Rybeck: he and Sara Lazarus are doing their musical theatre seminar at the moment, and it end this week, I believe. Alex asked me to be on the panel tomorrow night, but I'm out of town.  They 've worked with tons of great performers in these things and he may have some ideas once you describe the roles to him.

Apparently I'm seeing a bunch of people on Wednesday night, with, what I'm told, are good choices for each of the four roles.

Don't give up hope BK, there are tons of starving actors in NYC I am sure...some of them may even be good. I hope you find them, and fast! And don't stress too much.

Such a pool of talent.
Ant. Jason, TCB, Matt H, JRand, TPunk, Rodzinski, George and Jed for starters.

Pogue might take on the more challenging role of Joyce.

You'd be a hard hobbit to break.

I've always preferred Blood Sweat & Tears to Chicago.

Though I do like Peter Cetera's voice.

MMM  David Clayton Thomas for General - (or Levi Stubbs).
