Actually, DR JoseSPiano, I never thought of you and Jason as "the boys", although you're far closer to boyhood than some others here at HHW.com.  I thought Cason was referring to his fan club on the forum.

Sorry for any misunderstanding - I was just playfully referencing Jose and Jason as "the boys", I guess I should have been more clear.

Lucy: (looking in Variety) Here's one, two girls wanted for movie stunt.  Must be brave.

Ethel:  We can't do that.

Lucy:  Why not?

Ethel:  Well in the first place it says he's looking for girls.

Lucy:  We're girls.

Ethel:  We are?

Lucy:  Ethel, if everyone in the world is divided up into boys and girls....we're GIRLS!

AND OF COURSE THE FIRST THING THE MAN SAYS WHEN HE GETS TO THE APARTMENT AND SEES LUCY & ETHEL IS:

"Okay, where are the girls?"

DR JoseSPiano...

You should write a book about some of your audition experiences.

I second that! Not only would it be entertaining, but I think it would be very instructive to those who audition.

I'm getting old.  I read that comment about THE CLOSER as the young crooner is flirting with Gabriel.

For years I’ve been teaching performers what to do on auditions.  There’s a lot they need to think about, and I’ve never specified “remember the face of your accompanist” as one of them.  But a book with 20 songs?  Absolutely appalling and totally unprofessional.  Nobody, from peon to LuPone, can keep that many numbers in audition-ready state.  And “The Beauty Is” – well, Jose and I can play it, but since most audition pianists can’t, why take the risk?  Guettel, LaChiusa, J.R.Brown and some of Sondheim’s more difficult pieces are recipes for disaster.  The audition’s about you and your personality, not the accompanist and his virtuosity sight-reading.

Speaking of HEROES, DR MattH, did you hear that our favorite, Kristen Bell (VERONICA MARS) will be on the show this season.

RE: DR Jose's comments about last night's ON THE LOT finale.

SPOILERS

*
*
*

The idea of the show was okay. but the host was bad. And they really had no idea how to work the show properly.

For instance it drove me absolutely crazy that when they were going to eliminate contestants at the beginning of each show they couldn't be bothered to take a minute to remind us what each had done the week before. That really would have made a huge difference to me.

RE: last night's show. I really don't think the voting had anything to do with the 2 films chosen (since i think adam's were by far the best and he finished 3rd).

Since it was based on the whole season it might have been nice if they had reminded us of every film each had done.

I didn't mind the bit at the end. I actually sort of liked it (will drove off to Dreamworks studios to meet steven spielberg).

But they did have a lot of time to fill.

At least they didn't wait to reveal the winner till 2 minutes to the hour. That was one thing they at least did right.

DR Cason: I'm absolutely heartbroken. You mean you really are straight? All my efforts in the last - how long has it been - week since I met you - have been in vain?? ;)

I just wanna say, I don't know many straight men who would put up with all the ogling and teasing that DR Cason does. That in itself shows me how confident he is in himself. That, and the fact that he's clearly in love with Heather.

And for anyone who may be wondering what's going on over here in NYC...give us both some credit. I know better than to go barking up that tree. DR Cason and I are just friends, and I'm very happy to have met him.

I've just gotta say:  Walking two large dogs simultaneously - one of which is incapable of walking in a straight line - produces some interesting acrobatic effects.  Adam Cates may want to consider borrowing some of the moves.

;D The dance steps called Walking the Dog?

It was suggested that we start a phony feud between Brain and Starfighter to generate publicity.  I can see the Michael Riedel column now:  SCIENCE FRICTION REIGNS AT NYMF.  :)

;D Do people seriously think like that?  silly me. I should know the answer.

Amazon Rankings:   The New York Times had an interesting piece a few weeks back about how some authors become obsessed with the sales rankings of their own books.

Quote
It may seem [sic] obsessive, but every day — sometimes hourly — Aaron Shepard checks the Amazon.com sales rankings for his 12 self-published books. He even created a Web site, www.salesrankexpress.com, that lets authors check their Amazon rankings instantly.

“People want to know where their book stands, just for the thrill of that score,” says Mr. Shepard, whose top seller, “The Business of Writing for Children,” clocked in at 1,834th during one random check last week, and at 2,070th during another one. He says it sells 250 to 450 copies a month...

As tantalizing as the rankings may be, it is difficult to correlate them to the number of books sold, unless you are J. K. Rowling. Amazon announced that it had received a record 2.2 million preorders for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” 1.4 million of them in the United States. Barnes & Noble also said advance orders for the book hit a record: 1.5 million in stores and online. The book has dominated the No. 1 position on both Amazon and BarnesNoble.com since Feb. 1, the first day it was available for preorder.

For the average author, however, the volatility of the rankings is a big hook. A book that is the millionth-largest seller on Amazon, for example, might surge hundreds of thousands of places with one sale.

#2 in    DVD > Documentary > Crime & Conspiracy
#11 in    DVD > Documentary > History

And speaking of...

A question for ASK BK day:

Do you know if Mr. David Wechter is planning to attend any of the NYC Brain performances?

Going to see Avenue Q today in SF.  Going with my favorite horn player, Cathleen.  She's an  Avenue Q virgin.  Annie, Get Your Gun rehearsals are going well  Our Tommy went and basically snaped his ankle in half and so had to drop out of the show.  We re-cast withen the cast and we're back on track.  This is such a cute show and fun to do.

Question for bk - what airline did you fly to NYC?

Vibes to the gang in NYC (which seems to be getting bigger everyday)  have a great time together and be sure to report back to us.
